DCG1286
Ok as you all know I am in the process of upgrading my 90G to a 120 ... To be honest with you all ... I was starting to dislike the 90 simply because there was just not enough room ... not enough depth to the tank ... having 24" is so much nicer then only 18 ... especially for reef building.

  • MH: ON = 12pm OFF = 7pm
  • LED's (Moonlight): ON = 9pm OFF = 1am (one set remains on all night)
  • Fuge Light (LED's) Reverse Cycle 9pm-9am

I am considering running this tank barebottom ... but we'll see ... I love the look of sand ... but I have been curious to try a BB tank for a while now. I also cut back my bioload quite a bit. smile.gif

but, but...did you get rid of your jawfish? tears01.gif And are any of your wrasses sand sleepers (can't remember the technical term blush.gif )?

Congrats, David!

No I didn't ... lol ... I was thinking of building him a home in the rocks ... maybe that wouldn't be such a great idea ... I guess sand it is ... lol ... so much for that ... Both my Melanarus and Leopard Wrasses sleep in the sand too ... maybe just enough sand for them. biggrin.gif
ap123
Whew! tongue.gif But yeah, it sounds like you need to keep your sand. I bet you could do the bed a couple of inches more shallow (shallower? less deep? too early for grammar, even for me) than what you've got in the 90, and they'll all be fine.

2-As for the sandbed, so glad you decided to put sand in the tank. I am just not all that crazy about the BB look. I know it's a helluva lot easier to maintain but it just ain't that purdy!! So yay for sand!!

3-Good luck cleaning "The Beast" out! If you need any help, I can call a friend who lives a few blocks down from you...LOL who will work for pizza and booze!! wink.gif Otherwise, good luck smile.gif

Looking forward to seeing it come along as you transfer things from the 90.

LoLz ... Ok tank is now quite clean ... got most of that coralline algae (and some other unrecognizable goop) of the glass..

Certified electrician? Hmmmmmm ... I will keep that in mind seriously ... I was to build a couple of LED fixtures for this baby. Still trying to finish up the plumbing so that it doesn't leak. All seems to be going well so far! I hope to have the full system up and running by tonight ... or should I say EARLY Sunday morning. lol.

YAY!!! biggrin.gif lol ...

I am going to start a stocking list and try to keep to it this time ... Speaking for myself I buy fish impulsively so I would like to try and stop that this time around.

Ideas just to throw out there:

2x Bellus Angels (m&f)
1x Clown Tang (he is going to have to go with in the next year ... getting too big)
1x Purple Tang
2x Spotted Mandarins (mated)
2x Occ. Clownfish (gotta have the clowns ... lol)
1x Melanarus Wrasse
1x Firefish
1x Blotched Jawfish (Red Headed Jawfish)
2x Potter's Leopard Wrasse
1x Sunburst Anthias

I think that's what I got so far. Sounds like enough fish to me ... let's see how long this one lasts biggrin.gif

Tell me what you all think biggrin.gif

YES im an electrician.

Dont do the zeovit system, or i'll smash the butt of my beer bottle in your face!

Zeovit joking aside, I'm curious, Dave. Are you going to continue with the vodka dosing, or try to pare back to a simpler regime?

LMAO!!! I guess so wink.gif

Oh I completely forgot about him ... he is still here ... I may get him/her a partner wink.gif The Ruby Head Wrasse I still have ... he is a fully grown supermale ... so I am debating whether I find a larger system for him.

That's a great list smile.gif I love Potters wrasse, I have been looking for one for a while...I saw one at my LFS and I didn't get it for $30 a while back...I only had the 46 and was at fishy capacity with no skimmer dry.gif

Yeah me too ... just basic set up ... Calcium Reactor, Skimmer ... I am thinking of ordering those reactors from Bulkreef ... the dual reactors they sell ... fill them up with GFO and Carbon.

Anyone have any info (well preferably first hand experience wink.gif ) with the Sunbrite LED systems? I am thinking of adding 2 of them for now and slowly phase out the VHO's for LED's ... and possible the MH over time ... anyone have any thoughts on them? biggrin.gif

THANKS GUYS!!!

I am a lighting nOOb ... I admit to it ... I have faith in my halides ... but I am really really curious to try LEDs. biggrin.gif
Marteen
I've heard bad things about the sunbrite system myself. Mainly significant drops in PAR over the first 12 months, Exotics even confirmed this one. Browning out of SPS due to perhaps not enough UV or light banding who knows. Nuisance algae growth as well. If you were going to get a LED system and not build it yourself I would go with Aquailluminations they make a awesome system using 3w Cree XRE LEDs but I think the biggest selling point of their system is their controller which can create passing clouds and lightning storms. Although the fixtures are pricey I think the positive reviews make them seem worth it.

http://www.reefgeek.com/lighting/LED_Light..._Light_Systems/

However, if you decide to build a fixture yourself come and visit the lighting forum and see what we've been up to. I just finished a LED array for the BC29 myself and it is looking pretty good. Although one of the solders came undone last night so half my white lights aren't working... sigh. It's my first time so cut me some slack. tongue.gif If you need some help setting up an DIY LED array give me a call.
