i love my mp10 but i just wish i got to dead quiet ones but very rare.
the ones that are quiet are the more expensive ones like the mp40...
my mp10 is the only thing running in my 20g.

Just got my new MP10 with Ecosmart ordered. I'm looking forward to getting it and thanks for all of the info you guys posted. I'll probably run the MP10 and one of my K-2's in my 24 gallon. What do you guys think? Or do you think just using the MP10 would be fine? I'm tempted in getting 2, but the new ones are $220 a pop and spending $440 in powerheads will end my marriage...lol
Thanks in advance

Using one will def. be more than enough. I say just sell the K2's and just pick up one MP10

I have two MP10's. I love them, except for the one is extremely loud, to the point I have contacted ecotech about it. This is my only complaint. My corals look great and my leather LOVES the added flow. DEF. GET ONE!!!!

Thanks guys, I ordered one today from Marine Depot to try it out. Heard I'll never turn back..haha Can't wait till I get it next week. I'll probably have questions about setup and placement, but I'll give it a whirl:)

Can someone speak to how the MP10 works on a 40b? Enough power? Noise?
Jacobnano
Jun 12 2010, 05:42 PM
I wouldn't say enough power. I have one on 100% on my 24g (reefcrest mode). I think you would need several, especially if you wanted anything that needed higher flow. Plus, when running at 100% the noise is noticeable, then again I have a chiller running too, so not that noticeable....

The MP10 on a 40B would depend on what is in the tank. Soft corals and a little rock scape would be okay. Anything else and your going to need more. I think a single MP40 would give more flow but not enough variable flow. I would go with two MP10 ES W ,or one MP10 ES W and one MP40 ES W. Two pumps let you dial in each sideof the tank for speed. One side you might have SPS and that pump would be on 100%, the other side you might have soft corals and that pump would be dialed down to 50%. The second pump would be run on anti-sync to get the most alternating flow in the tank. As for noise it is mostly about alignment of the two sides of the pump and the speed that they are run. My AC70 refugium is louder than when I run my MP10 ES W on 100%.

I actually just had to change out a dry side because the first MP10 I recieved was extremly loud. Then I recieved my newest MP10 and WOW, at 50%, if the air, dishwasher, dryer, washer, or chiller is not on THEN you can hear this faint little wisping sound. Turns out the first MP10 spun a bearing (bearing became misaligned). Ecotech is awesome, they are sending me a new dryside first thing monday morning.

You guys weren't joking... I just hooked up my MP10 Ecosmart and all I can say is WOW!!! It's added a lot more room and my tank looks larger, since I took out the 3 Koralia's. I got lucky because mine is pretty quiet. Almost undetectable, until it hits maximum speed and I hear a little whine. My lights are alot louder than the pump is.
The flow is awesome and my corals are loving it. The palys and zoas are swaying back and forth and the sps polyps are all out.
I like the Reef Crest mode, but do you guys prefer any of the others? Should I set it up on reef crest during the day and lagoon at night?

I like reef crest mode too. Night mode kicks in when the lights turn off. You can adjust the speed and length of night mode in the configuration mode. My MP10W ES is set to drop the pump speed down to 50% and run for twelve hours. Then the lights kick back on and the pump is back in reef crest again.
If you have the Neptune Apex Aquacontroller with WXM module and your ES pump is also wireless you can set it up to change operational modes throughout the day.

Thanks,
I'll try it out.. I'm just getting used to the settings and trying out the different modes. Sounds like the next thing I need is a Aquacontroller:)

I waiting for my third MP10 ES. The first one after a week 1/2 still sounded like a dewalt drill. The place I bought it from online sent me a new one the day I called and over night it. Now the second one the dial is all messed up. So they are shipping me a 3rd MP10 today n should get it tomorrow or the next day. I liked the vortech this is my first but just hoping the 3rd one is a charm lol

I'd do two MP10's vs one MP40 any day. I would go with one MP10 to start with if you want to space out the spending

Did I forget to mention that I love this pump

Thanks guys for all of the help.. I was a little hesitant about spending that much on a single pump, but now I can't own anything else. Everything in my tank has perked up and my zoas and palys have never looked better.
What do you think about the Tidal Swell Mode? I currently have it on Reef Crest Mode at about 8/10th speed. What do you think would work best for my setup? Right now it's located on the Rightside of the tank above the Green Monti Cap.

Thanks

Nice tank Reefer916.
My brief review. I had 2 K-nano's and an MJ1200 powerhead for the return on my NC12DX. Yesterday I took all of these out and replaced them with an MP10 (non ES) and an MJ900 pump plus a hydor-flow.
I had a tough time getting rid of all vibration on the setup where you run it at 100% constant. I got it as good as I could and turned it down- it was knocking over acans and straining an attached clam. I'm now running it in reefcrest at 50% and the combination of that plus the mj900 with hydorflo is wonderful for random flow. The dry unit on the MP10 makes a whirring sound-it's only noticeable when everything else in the house is off. It's quieter than the old MJ1200 was. The MJ900 pump is almost dead silent. I have a 80mm fan over the tank running at about 65% speed and that is enough to drown out all pump noise.

where did you put the mp10? is it by the intake or output side.

It is on the intake side -it was about dead center on the side panel in the viewable area. This weekend I moved it forward about 1 or 2 inches toward the front panel because it was hitting a coral too hard and now all the vibration's gone. I can turn it up full blast and all I get is the whir of the external motor (which is definitely audible but it is soft and not obnoxious). So I don't know if it's just well broken in now or maybe was getting resonance with it's old placement dead center? I'll leave that to someone smarter than me.
Anyway- after a few weeks, happier than ever with it.

Thanks,
I had the same problem when I first hooked the MP10 up. I had to turn it down to 60% on Reef Crest mode because it was too strong for my acans. It's still pretty quiet, but it does have a little whine to it as it speeds up. Nothing bothersome or really noticable. Still a killer powerhead and my corals love it, especially the SPS..

what mode are you setting the mp10 in the jbj nc12dx. I can't decide lagoon or reef crest.

reefcrest for variance, lagoon for flow.

Excellent product. I was a bit hesitant at first to take the plunge because of the steep

price but I couldn't be happier with it now. I have it in my 34g Solana on the right side of the tank. I plan on making a dry-dock and putting it in the back chamber but regardless, it's awesome. When i first turned it on it was like a hurricane in the tank...Rics flying, debris everywhere! Now there is excellent flow in every corner of the tank and no film buildup on the surface of the water. Well worth the investment.
