With star polyps, just plug and play. They aren't going to open for a few days any way. Plop 'em in, glue them down if you have the materials.

Just make sure your, well actually star polyps are very hard to kill. Great choice for a first coral. Make sure they get light lol

You can float the bag in the water for a while to get the temps the same. You could add a cup of tank water every half hour or so but thats for nicer corals. You could also drip acclimate. But since it is just star polyps, I would float the bag so the temps are the same then take the rock out and put it in your tank. Do not dump the bag water into the tank.

There are a few corals where you have to worry about air getting caught in the tissue. This isn't one of them.

lol I went into too much detail. Yea they are fine outa water for a long time actually. I had one out for over 30 minutes lol. Sponges aren't supposed to be out of the water, just some random info there. Also feel free to ask any more questions. It may take a few days for the star polyps to open, so don't freak out if they don't open up for a while.

They're just filter feeders. They like lots of flow. The higher flow will make them grooooow.

cool first purchase - they're pretty hardy and grow fast.
in the future, you may want to make sure you know what to do with the coral before you bring it home. not trying to be negative - it would just suck for you to lose a nice piece due to improper acclimation. feel free to post questions about what you want to get before you buy - it really makes things go smoother.

mushrooms, zoa and other softies are always good. Xenia, kenya trees, leathers are all nice hardy corals. Most soft corals are good.

yeah, at this point I wouldn't get any LPS or SPS. let your tank mature a bit first. there are some really colorful zoas out there.

I thought you werent supposed to acclimate corals because of some reaction the water and air have???
just temp acclimate.

What?

co2 makes the water's ph go down or up or something. o2 changes that when the bag is opened. but the coral isn't using that much o2 in the bag so the change won't be a big deal. for many corals, salinity acclimation is necessary.
