Thanks! We're trying to get a wider range of colors in this tank. We still haven't found homes for all the new corals yet but hopefully we will soon.

Thanks!
davidncbrown
Alright so new pictures! I apologize in advance for the crappy quality of some of these pics. I'll take some better ones soon. A lot of our corals are in their (hopefully) permanent homes.

So we'll start this out with a new FTS.

Our pair of half nakies smile.gif

Aussie blasto

Birdsnest were lookin to sell

From our research.. we *think* its a porites

montipora capricornis

the miami hurricane is growing!

newly created zoa garden. We're going to let them completely encrust the rock.

The tissue damage on the stylo is growing back and getting polyps

here's our red scooter blenny

our pipe organ

an acan lord

this was a hitch-hiker on a rock in our nano and we never knew what it was while it was small. Now that it's in our new tank and its getting bigger we think its a orange crush acan. We're super stoked, and it looks like its growing a couple new heads on top!

our first acan lord colony from the other tank

The guy at the LFS told us this was a pocillopora but we think its a montipora digitata, what do you think?

This green millepora was in the back of the frag tank at the LFS and one side was shaded so it has no polyp growth. Within the two days we've had it we can see its already starting to grow polyps on the bald side.

our bubble gum chalice has tissue growing over the sides where it was fragged.

our beautiful purple fire darter

our lobo is looking much better! It has three distinct mouths.

blue acropora

and finally the first sps we ever bought, our green birdsnest.

Hope you enjoy the pic update!!

davidncbrown
My girlfriend has been in love with this blasto which our LFS had in one of their show tanks for at least a month now... Well we finally convinced them to sell it.... And... behold one wicked blastomussa wellsi!

And now for the closeup...

bluenassarius
hey dave,

nice looking setup. your lucky to have a GF supportive for your hobby. smile.gif
bgrimm2day
Blasto's are the best. Those are really nice with the green mixed in. If you ever decide to frag them wink.gif I'd be interested.

I'll keep it in mind. I probably won't be fragging anything for a long time tho... we really want our stuff to grow out.

Oh, P.S. We just got a dendro, and we moved some of our corals around and got some new ones so I need to take some more pics and do a post. I've been real busy lately. School started back up last week and I've been working a bunch so unfortunately NR has taken a back seat to more important things sad.gif
davidncbrown
Well we knew it was coming, but our red scooter blenny my girlfriend lovingly named "scoot scoot" died this morning. sad.gif He has been battling cancer (no joke!) for a couple months now and it finally got to him. Some of the tumors had shrank and dissapeared, but some just kept growing. He hasn't been eating like his usual self lately so we knew it was coming soon. We're not sure when we will be getting a new fish, or what it will be.... And on a side note after much time and neglect for our NR thread, I will be posting brand new pictures tomorrow of the tank and some new corals!

R.I.P. Scoot scoot.
davidncbrown
Ok so as promised, new pictures!

left side shot

center shot

right side shot

our purple/yellow turbinaria

laserbeam chalice

happy little feather duster. He lost his crown when we moved him to the new tank but its been back for a while now and he's doing great!

green/orange aussie blasto

wow our favia is getting huge!

stylo is growing too!

porites are encrusting the rock they are on and have really colored up

still don't know what this thing is but it's cool

orange digi is looking good too.

green florida ric

blue florida ric

orange/pink ric

blasto thats for sale wink.gif

superman lobo has grown a bunch!

orange monti cap

our dendro... he doesn't come out during the day

super happy aussie blasto

our blue acro has grown too!

green milli doesn't seem to have grown as much as the others.... hmm....

our acan lord colony was bleached completely white, buts its slowly coming back

our other acan lord colony has come back better than the other one. It still needs to color up more tho.

green zoas

radioactive dragoneyes

orange crush acan... the only colony that is doing well sad.gif

candycane

neon green candycane

our ORA duncans

LE idaho grape cap... hmm snails must have knocked it over...

pair of clowns and our redonkulous hammer coral.

And thats it for photo's today! It was a much needed update on the status of our tank.

davidncbrown
We picked up some new corals from PurpleUp's tank closeout. His tank looks awesome and we got some great corals.

LE Miami Hurricane Chalice
FNF RedBug Monti
Superhero Monti

Also for Katie's 8 gal
Japanese Yellow Jacket Zoas
Pink Mushroom

Will get pics up ASAP
davidncbrown
As promised pictures of the corals we got from PurpleUP! biggrin.gif I appologize in advance for the crappy quality of the pictures, I took them with my blackberry. wink.gif

This is the red milliepora

Katie's yellowjacket zoas. They're gonna look awesome in her 8G once we get our fixture from evilc66 wink.gif

true undata

ReefKoi superhero montipora

purple validia

sick @$$ ORA joe the coral frag!

unknown echinata that looks sick anyway

and the blue milliepora.

I didn't get a picture of the LE miami hurricane chalice, or the FNF redbug monti but I will soon. Our tank is really starting to look like a nice tank!! biggrin.gif
davidncbrown
Soooo... A few new corals and a new (as of today) Hawaiian flame wrasse! smile.gif I only have a picture from the LFS because the lights on the tank were off so I couldn't get one but the LFS shot will have to do.
davidr2340
What a beautiful fish David! Congrats!!!

cool.gif
davidncbrown
Thanks. I can't wait to get real pics of it. He was just starting to make his way out of his hidey hole.
davidncbrown
So heres a REAL picture of our new girlie in our tank.
davidncbrown
Alright here are some select new pictures!

This is our True Undata we got from Randy (PurpleUp)

This is our Superhero Montipora we also got from Randy

Our beautiful Sunset Montipora

Orange Crush Acan (was a hitch-hiker on a rock in our other tank! Sorry about the blurry pic!)

FNF Red Bug Montipora from Randy.

Radioactive Dragon Eyes

ORA Green Duncan (one of our clowns tried to steal the photo haha.)

Laserbeam chalice from Mr. Coral

Devil's Armor Palys

We moved our first Maxima up off the sand bed onto a rock about mid level. Gonna try to get more color outta him. wink.gif

Actinic shot of Cat's Eye Zoa's

Bubble Gum Chalice (also from MrCoral)

4th of July Favia (free, mostly bleached from MrCoral. Look how its doing now!)
Nemo Niblets
Looks awesome! Those are killer blastos. Not to mention the chalices and SPS and sweet flame wrasse.

If the dendro gets super healthy, it should be open all day. Just feed it alot. Google balanophyllia, and see if it looks like that though. It's possible...

Thanks man! biggrin.gif From what I've read on balanophyllia they are found in colder waters.. I mean its possible... I dunno. Its not too orange though, the mouth is red and the tentacles are almost clear.
davidncbrown
So good news bad news time. We just discovered we have red bugs on a couple of our acro colonies sad.gif but the good news is that our LFS had a pair of dragon face pipe fish... Which just so happen to eat red bugs... So we got them. smile.gif here's a couple pics of one of them. The other one is being a ninja and hiding in the rock work.
Nemo Niblets
Dragonface pipes are so awesome! I've always wanted one. Do you have problems with them in the flow?

Are they eating frozen?
animalmaster6
So this is where all your nice frags come from? Awesome tank man! Awesome!

Good luck with the red bugs! I am getting a Dragonface Pipefish for the 125G because theye at red bugs and they are juts plain awesome!

No flow problems yet.....they've only been in for a couple of hours. They came from our LFS's 350 gallon mixed reef display tank with 3 koralia magnum 5, the biggest vortec you can get, and two oscillating returns. We are hoping they won't have a problem.
As for eating frozen, it's too early to tell. I have read that you can train them onto baby brine then cyclopeeze then to mysis. We hope it will work otherwise they will go back to the LFS when the red bugs are gone.

That's good news... In that case I might get one myself in the future. I always wanted one, but was afraid it would fly off and die. Keep me updated smile.gif

I'm mega jealous now..

Most of those frags came from the 24 nanocube. We are just attempting to simplify our lives by getting rid of that tank. We have had really good luck finding great frags to grow out. Believe it or not most our stuff comes from our LFS, Aqualife Aquarium in Rocklin, CA. We have gone other places too but have the best of luck from them.
We have been battling red bugs on our 1st blue acro for awhile but they never moved to any other acros.....until a few days ago sad.gif We lucked out with the LFS having these in stock. We wanted just one, but they wouldn't sell just one to us cause they were already paired, plus we read they are better kept in pairs. Hopefully they will work out so we can keep them. They have already brought a lot of personality to our tank.

We will try to keep the thread updated with how it goes with weaning them onto frozen food......think I am going to place a pod order.

I had the best luck with live brine training my mandarin. It was pretty hungry too... a hungry fish is an easy to train fish.

I am having tons of SPS so I want to be red bug free!

I too have heard they are better in pairs. I don't have space for a pair though lol.
I am planning on putting them in 8 months after the tank is estaablished. I want plenty of pods for them because it will be really hard to get them on frozen sad.gif

From what I have read on various websites is that the dragonface pipefish is the easiest of pipefish to train onto frozen foods and to keep in a home reef. They said it is the hardiest of all the pipefish.

Exactly what I heard too. I also heard they are the best for keeping with less-aggressive tangs. happy.gif
I chose this one because they are the hardiest pipefish for a reef and they are soooo cool!

So HAPPY VALENTINES DAY to us!!! On top of getting a pair of matted Dragonface Pipefish, our baby clowns decided to spawn tonight. We totally caught them in the act bumping uglies....dirty little munchkins. My girlfriend thought it was weird that the female was doing the shake to the male.....sure enough they are spawning. YAY!!!!!!!

This is the exact same thing that happened to my pistol shrimps!

SO just a little update... It is unclear if the pipe fish are eating the red bugs or not.. They are both still alive and the small one eats frozen cyclopeze and nutramar ova. They eat pods sooo I assume that's what's been sustaining them since they weren't eating the red bugs. Kinda annoyed at that fact but the pipe fish are pretty sweet anyway smile.gif
davidncbrown
New additions today! A super crazy looking pink Yuma, a blue strawberry tunicate, and a Tomini tang smile.gif. No pics of the tang as it was hiding, but I have pics of the other additions. Yuma pictures are with all the lights on and just the actinics.
Rehype
wow what an awesome yuma

Our new tang

There was a person on another site that had one of these tunicates. The "bulbs" kept falling off a regrowing until one time they fell off and it died. Beautiful critter. Hope yours does better than his!

All of the heads fell off when we brought it home but they are regrowing. It had tunicate flatworm (look like nudis) eating it we have been dipping and its been in quarantine. The tunicate flatworms eat them from the inside out and are hard to diagnose. I have read that their lifespan is only a year to year and a half.
We also found out that it is a blue palm tunicate. People commonly misname them strawberry tunicates cause the heads look like strawberries.

Really nice corals you've got. Love the flame wrasse and the pipefish. Can't wait to see everything grow out for you!
davidncbrown
Picked up some stuff from corallineadam at fragfrenzy.com a few weeks ago.
ORA Hawkins's Blue Arcopora echinata
Bali Slimer Acropora yongei
Rainbow Green Galaxea
Red Montipora Setosa
and a few others

Will get around to posting updates pictures one of these days
owned162
Looking forward to the new pics biggrin.gif!

How's the tang?

I can't wait to see the new SPS!!
davidncbrown
Tang is doing great! He loves to eat everything I put in the tank. I feed him algae sheets 4 times a week and formula two flakes on the off days. He also eats the nutramar ova I feed the pipe fish ( the large one passed away because it never moved over to frozen like the small one did sad.gif ). The tang has also become buddy buddy with the flame wrasse. They both eat the algae sheet. He loves swimming around back through the rockwork and all around. He is very personable too smile.gif. I will try to get pics up on saturday but no promises. We are going on a week vacation next week and we have a lot of stuff to get ready so I might not get to the pictures. If not then definitely when we return.
animalmaster6
Sorry about the pipe sad.gif

I'm really glad to hear everything else is doing well though smile.gif
