HEY ALL! should i switch to a LED setup for this tank or leave it with the 150w MH over it???

good question
I am thinking about stitching to LED over my 10gal zoa tank
corallineadam

i guess my question is:
is it hella risky switching an existing tank from MH to LED?

Hmm... Well, LEDs put out higher PAR, but can be dimmed easily. So, I couldn't see it being too much of a shock to the system, since you can dim them down to acclimate everything gradually.

good point! and thats why i was thinking if i wanted to use the light on a deeper tank i could just turn the power up...

it takes my new stuff a while to adjust to the LEDs but after they get used to it they love it! When I first installed mine I had it half power and that was even pretty bright. I didnt use a POT though, I just used a 5v power adapter in the 0-10V dimmer circuit so i am not exactly sure what percent it was. I am hoping that my Reefkeeper will be able to dim them soon.
You will be supprised what your system will look like with LEDs.

i wonder if lighting is any part of the reason so many of the frags neever came around? my tank is a 10g lit with a 150w MH light (kinda overkill, but it works WELL and things grow FAST). going from this intensity to pc's mihgt cause trouble... althought i move frags to my 2.5g pico which is pc lit sometimes and everything does good.

not sure if the lighting has anything to do with cuz i am running 4 buld t-5 fixture.
everything else is doing great along with the 4 frags that made it.

probably not lighting then.... they may have gotten exposed to some heat on their way down to GA?

they are plain old koralias, not controllable, so there is not settings for power.
there is one koralia-1 and one koralia-nano, both running at "full blast"

now it looks much happier!
also shown is the new sunset monti to the left, the original pico clam derasa (everyone said WOULDNT MAKE IT, well shes alive and well

) to the right, and next to the RPE colony is the idaho grape monti! its a little beat up because some zoas fell onto it

, but its in recovery mode

see i told u guys this clam was destined for great things!!

the monti is like 1" in diameter and i just got it like 2 weeks ago so im not quite sure on the growth rate yet, but it seems to be growing at a decent rate -- the last two weeks growth is visually noticeable...

well that's good to know.
Are they hard to keep.
I ask this cuz i am starting to get an inch to get me one. Everytime i go to the sw store, I have nocticed that i am wanting one.
Would my 4 bulb T-5 be good enough for one, my tank is an 30 gal long

im not sure on the lighting... mine is under a 150w MH but it is a 20k bulb and it is a good 13-14" from the light source...
i dont think they are hard to keep, or at least no harder than other sps species. montis in general are fairly forgiving for an SPS coral...
yes you should try and get one, keep it high up in your rock work so it gets a good amount of light
