Looks good....how many tanks DO you have?

i have:
1) my office tank which is an 8" cube about EDIT 2.5g... NOT 1.5g
2) my 10g AGA reef
3) the 12" cube
4) the 5.5g AGA reef
5) the newly set-up 29g truvu frag tank

and in the works (im planning and buying parts) is going to be a ~150g reef wwhen i move to my new spot (and u are welcome to come over and see my tanks and have a beer when that happens! biggrin.gif )
corallineadam
i went home from work for lunch today and the mp10 came! i hooked it up right away and so far it seems to be working okay :/ biggrin.gif

YIKES ohmy.gif
hopefully some will escape their crabby claws! smile.gif
but you have eggs in your office tank??
my lil bro is 16 and he loved watching the embryos in the eggsacks as they matured -- we used a photographers loupe (8 or 10x i believe) and it really allowed us to see them in fairly good detail...
it'll giv you something to look at other than a computer screen laugh.gif
opy01
lol I was wondering how you saw them. Those things are tiny! How long does it take to hatch?

thanks! and yes that is my style, i like to pack many corals into my tanks! i currently am running this style on all 4 of my nanos -- packed with coral, lots of feedings in small amounts, and no skimming with a strong ecological cleanup such as macro algae, breeding inverts (whose populations can adjust to the available food supply), and a to of light and flow.

moast will say istoo crowned, i say it looks darn good and healthy

thx man! yea its crowded for sure though, i need to space some of these corals out and take some more cuttings... there are spots where zoas are crowding my sps and where the softies are shading out other corals... it just takes a lot more maintantence and some intervention (spreading people out a lil, moving them, or just slightly readjusting them to allow space/light for others) than a less crowded tank
i have to check my tank like 3 or 4 times a day to make sure no one fell onto anyone else...
bluenassarius
adam,

i think you can fit at least another 20 corals up in there bro. do it! wink.gif

oh i know i can! its just a matter of time...
there are zoa colonies growing behind the rock work that i can barely even see (not due to lack of light, but due to lack of viewability) but they are thriving!
i can def add some more corals though... wink.gif
redkneecoral
well adam, you can always send a few or all my way bro lol tongue.gif
corallineadam
lol
redkneecoral
i thought is was funny too hahaha

I think I saw a baby conch in my home tank. If so then at least one made it past the crabby claws lol. I put 6 in my tank at home to begin with and now I have 7 happy.gif .

I never saw any at work though. I thought those were eggs in the corner but they still look the same. Maybe its too cool at work. The tank stays between 75-77 all the time.

I don't think that cold is the problem my tanks dive down pretty low at night sometimes... I be it's the light they don like to lay in bright spots mostly in dark areas like glass corners or under rocks or in sumps smile.gif
it's truely amazing how fat Hess little guys reproduce though! Tol u it wuldnt be more than a few weeks!
opy01
I wonder how many I am not seeing at home lol. At work though there aren't that many dark places. My red mythrix crab rules the only good cave lol. Of course I am now dealing with stupid GHA again due to overfeeding Phyto Feast. I figured since I was only there 3-4 days a week I would just double up... huge mistake. Now I am trying to get it under control again.

sad.gif
man im soooo sad
:'(
RIP radiant wrasse
im so mad at myself for leaving the lid off the tank last night. i NEVER leave it off! and low and behold i just found my little friend dried out and dead sad.gif im dying inside sad.gif

rest in peace little buddy sad.gif
opy01
Dude that sux! I am so sorry to hear that. Kind of makes me nervous about not having a lid on my tank.
corallineadam
I'm devestated sad.gif
opy01
If it makes you feel any better you can have my wifes rabbit. In fact, please take it!
corallineadam
That makes me laugh but I'm still torn up inside
his lil buddies, the two green chromis, are looking all over for him they've been acting funny all morning and I didn't think anything of it but now it all make sense
sad.gif I'm dying inside

Who woulda thunk reeding could get so emotional!
opy01
That kills me. I hate seeing other animals looking for one that died because there is no way of explaining to them what happened. Maybe if you get another one they may be fooled. In fact you should go spend money on fish stuff, it will make you feel better wink.gif .
corallineadam
Ah yeah it sucks! I am doing just that lol
started my 10g frag tank (see my sig), gona get a frag from a lfs, Gona take a road trip to a distant lfs I've heard of but never been to and get some sps frags (they're expecting me and have acros and montis waiting biggrin.gif ), Im getting some snails in the mail too today (thx reefcleaners!), and I mite get a hammer coral to frag out
plus I called my fav closeby lfs and they can get me a new radiant in a month tops smile.gif
so I'm still sad but all will be well
plus I'm meeting with the pres of our local reef club and he has a bunch of ORA sps fraga ready for me to come pick up this weekend! smile.gif
redkneecoral
sorry to hear about your wrasse. I know the feeling cuz i lost my mandarin.

Congrats on your hammer. I am still itching to get me a a hammer. They are one of the most wanted coral to get.
corallineadam
skipped the hammer
although i can easily get one in the near future
but i did get a reallly nice branching torch coral
corallineadam
btw
i hit a distant lfs last night and got a reeeaally neat wrasse! man these fairy wrasses are beyond cool IMO pics soon

PICS PICS PICS omgomgomg.gif
corallineadam
whenever i wana take pics the lil guy is nowhere to be found and then in the middle of the night (my night, their day) or at random times the fish is all over the tank like super outgoing...
but ya no pics of the wrasse for now sad.gif
but i took pics of other stuff smile.gif

NEW ACANS:

(the last one is not nearly as brown as the pic makes it look -- much more carrot orange smile.gif ver cool colors)

and my acan in the 5.5 that got mauled by mushies in a matter of a few hours sad.gif
but its recovering!! smile.gif

and here is a pic with ALOT going on in it -- it has the fragged tyree leather (stump looking thing tongue.gif ), a new acan frag i got (and love wub.gif ), and the recovering OUT OF THIS WORLD CHALICE after its fragging last weekend biggrin.gif
its doing great though biggrin.gif
opy01
Those acans are a little large for a frag plug lol. They are all lookin good. You must be doing something right for all you stuff to recover that quick.

wild fish right?!
andrewsimon
jeez! That thing is crazy looking! What type of wrasse is that?
corallineadam
NO IDEA!!! they said it was a tricolor fairy wrasse, but im fairly certain it isnt...
some kinda fairy wrasse maybe...
its sooooo cool!
corallineadam
looking at different DSLR's...
i have a canon 35mm EOS and would like to stick with canon since the lenses are all interchangeable.
does anyone have any sugestions? also for macro lenses, any suggestions? i am looking at the 105mm sigma...
opy01
The Digital Rebel is a good camera but I prefer the 40D or 50D myself. I am using the Canon 100mm macro lense with a 1.5x extender and it is awesome!

thx opy! i almost got the rebel but i think im going to hold out for a little while. i checked out the canon 100mm and its a nice lens! but i think the sigma 105 is comparable and only 2/3 the cost...
they offered me a deal on the rebel xs and the 100mm canon macro for $1000 but i had to pass, cant fork over that kinda doh at the moment. maybe soon though... smile.gif
opy01
The Sigma, Tamron and Quantary lenses are alot cheaper but the glass is not near the quality. I did a side by side comparison with a Canon 35-200mm and the Tamron 35-200mm and the canon one focused alot faster and the color was alot better. The glass in the Canon lenses let in more light and some of the others are somewhat clowdy IMO. The Sigmas are the same way too. I am not saying the lenses suck but as much as I use mine I can tell a difference and would rather save up a little more and buy the Canon brand. Well when I get back and buy those frags from you that will get you that much closer to spending the $$$$$$$$$ wink.gif .
corallineadam
laugh.gif yeah... that is true. its just hard for me to spend THAT MUCH on anything at one time. tongue.gif
hey arent you supposed to be on the beach! what are you doin online??? tongue.gif
