Hello. Returning to the hobby after a year. I'm building a 10 gallon AGA but I've run into a problem. I only have enough room in the tank to fit either a skimmer or ATO.

I was wondering which would be most beneficial. I will be running 70 mh lighting system with a fan at the waters surface and plan on keeping lps and softies and a fish.

So far filtration consists of overflow to side chamber with live rock rubble and cheato.

If i go with ATO I will add charcoal to the filtration.

So what do you guys think?

ATO or Skimmer?????

Metal halides and a fan? ATO for sure.

Build a fuge and put the ATO and skimmer into it.

Absolutely agree.

I would go with the ATO. I have a halide over my 10 gal and the ATO runs every 10 min while the light is on! I also think that you could easily do both. Take out the live rock rubble. The ATO on my tank is taking up like 2" of the top frame.

The way the tank will be built there is only room for one or the other taking in consideration skimmer height, hight of the light, and room in the side fuge area.

I would be able to pull off both but I'm trying to make this tank to look good all around this time.

I've never made a serious attempt at a reef tank without a skimmer so I was wondering if it was absolutely necessary in a 10 gallon.

So far I'm leaning towards ATO.

My 10gal has always been pimpin without a skimmer. The ATO is the best thing that has ever happened to a tank of mine. Hands down.

started construction. Not the best work out there but it's the best I can muster up.

my stand vanished so I'll either need to buy or make another so tank won't be up for a while yet.

done painting

Water test

After the water test I found a few things I need to fix. The overflow isn't big enough and theres a little bit more silicone work to be done....crap

modified my old ATO system

add a headphone jack connection
