That's a very nice and simple design! How loud is the water falling from the overflow into the chamber, and from the outflow of the PVC into the sump?
steve0xr
Sep 12 2009, 05:27 PM
the skimmer is louder than the overflow
you can only hear it if you get real close

Ok haven't done much with the tank but picked up a few frags yesterday. The orange ric and torch have been in there about a month. The rest were added yesterday so they're not all open.

(Yes its a seaclone, and Yes I know your opinion on seaclones)

(This macro bleached when I put it in. I thought it was done for, but check out the new growths)

Theres more zoas and a toadstool but they haven't opened yet. Hopefully soon.

I will say this, MAN!!!! you did an OUSTANDING JOB on your tank. The DIY skimmer, loved it. And loved how you made your light and it's bright making your corals stand out.
I love your Rics, they arwe my most fav mushies. Seems like I am not lone on that.
Keep on the great work.
I have the Seaclone as well, whats the bad thing about them that most people don't like.
I have my hanging on the side of me tank (since i don't have a sump yet) and the worse thing i cannot stand about it, is that every time i stick my hand in the tank for whatever reason that is, i get bunch of tiny bubbles . Other than thati think it's an alright beginner skimmer.
steve0xr
Jan 29 2010, 09:48 PM
Thanks man! Yeah the sea clones are hard to adjust so that they perform well and don't produce micro bubbles. Thats why they get a bad wrap. Because I use mine in the sump it dosent matter much, but using it as a hang on back can get to be a pain.

Love the video!
I did notice something that frightened me though... Your acrylic is bowing... A lot. The Center crossbar seems to be holding quite a bit of pressure on a relatively small area. Did you consider or have you heard of eurobracing?
I do not own a saltwater tank nor do i have a Acrylic tank so feel free to ignore my advice, i may well be ignorant. It just looked like there was a bunch of deflection in the sides of your tank and i thought i would point it out before it became a problem.
Your tank is gorgeous and i would hate for it to end up catastrophically failing.

I have nocticed you have a good amount of CUC. And after seeing a few other tanks with a good amount of CUC, i am thinking i need to add more to my tank
