Anyone use one? Seems like a possible alternative to the G10... I'm thinking I like the pictures I've seen taken with it better than with the G10...

title edit: figured I'd expand potential discussion to micro 4/3rds too since the topics on them are quite limited
summers.enemy
It is the compact camera of choice on the photo forum I frequent. I've never used it, but it looks awesome and is highly spoken of.
HecticDialectics
Apparently they are nearly impossible to find in stock anywhere for a reasonable price tho dry.gif

f/2.0 O.o gees. thats a huge +

optical zoom sucks though

looks like it could be a contender for top P&S on paper at least. haven't looked at any reviews for it.
summers.enemy
Looky!

GEES, for 700 get a DSLR. or the G10 for 450.
summers.enemy
Ok, that's weird. When I posted the link ten minutes ago it was at $499 and free shipping. huh.gif

huh.gif mellow.gif laugh.gif

thats a heck of a price jump

adorama price is 500...not so bad compared to g10 price.
summers.enemy
Yeah, sure is! laugh.gif

Too bad too, I already had my card out to grab one. Maybe it's a good thing, another camera sitting around is the last thing I need. tongue.gif

Yeah, at 700 I don't think I'll nab one, but if I can find out in stock for $500 somewhere it's a go. I'm hesitant for a real DSLR or whatever they're called because the cost of the body+good lens adds up quick, plus its just not easy to carry around like compact cameras.
HecticDialectics
lol down to $550 on Amazon... I'm guessing the seller got word that they were gonna ship a bunch more soon or something

$150 price drop in a week or so is pretty extravagant

If only I knew how big of a pipe dream getting it for $500 actually was laugh.gif

Up to $680 now. Micro 4/3rds is heating up too, Panasonic has absolutely horrid US distribution at the moment. The GH1 is on Amazon for a $1000 price premium over the MSRP. And Panasonic has a new rumored GF1 which is basically the same size as the Pen coming out, but if the distribution of the LX3 and GH1 are any hint, the GF1 is just as big a pipe dream as my $500 LX3. I'd consider the GH1 if it ever got a few hundred below MSRP... lower $1000 range instead of $1500 (or the astoundingly absurd 2500).

Le sigh. Maybe as September rolls around I'll have some more options.
Lalani
Watch, when you finally buy it you're not going to use it. tongue.gif
HecticDialectics
You're probably right laugh.gif

The GH1 intrigues me most cause I could record my sister's wedding in October in HD video, which I think would be really special for her. The video this thing shoots looks incredible. I really like the champagne/gold color, but of course it's not available in that color in the US cause US consumers are boring and stupid and stuff.

Part of me really leans towards something more pocketable tho, since like you said, I probably won't be using it much for anything other than documenting fun times with friends. Even the GH1/Pen/GF1(if its not fake) are all too big take with me for a night on the town.
Lalani
Yeah, for the size/shape of the GH1... you might as well just buy a fullsize DSLR with HD video.

yeah that's true... i think the rebel is barely a half-inch bigger.

I kind of feel like a camera is either pocketable or not pocketable. If it's not pocketable, then size is no longer an issue outside of the extremes, because you gotta wear the damn thing around your neck/in a bag everywhere. And once that's out of the picture, I don't know what the point of a micro 4/3rds is any more.

Patience is a virtue... finally found a black LX3 in stock and sold by amazon.com for $499.99! cool.gif

Still listed as in stock if anyone else was checking them out.

i have the lx3 and love it.had an olympis dslr, which a great cam, but it was too bulky and didn't take good low light pics. the lx3 shoots great out of the box, still havn't played around with the settings etc. got it around the time you originally posted this thread, but this is the first time i seen it

yup! the one I bought should be coming directly from amazon, not one of their 3rd party folks. I'm just nervously waiting on a shipping confirmation email. tongue.gif
jeremai
that link goes to a third party seller @ $639, lol

yeah apparently it changes sellers/prices by the hour lol

when i first posted it it was $499 ships and sold from amazon.com tongue.gif

It looks like a bunch of them were received by wholesalers over the past few days though. Posts have been popping up on dpreview.com every 8 or 10 hours with links to $499 LX3s.
HecticDialectics
woohoo! shipped! I was worried I'd get screwed over somehow. I guess there's still time for the post office to lose it.
summers.enemy
You lucky bum. biggrin.gif
HecticDialectics
it's here! omgomgomg.gif charging battery :X

o noes! my old fuji uses an xD card! I just pulled my 4gig micro-sd out of my cell phone and stuck it into the micro to sd adapter ... hope it works mad.gif

i think im gonna pick up a sandisk extreme III later today.
summers.enemy
Back on Amazon tonight for $499 with free shipping and fulfilled through Amazon. I wish I could justify buying it.
xbwolfx
so is this camera good, or what?
HecticDialectics
this camera is badass...
zjharva
pics?
xbwolfx
thinking about replacing my g10 with this camera

i really liked the g10, but we would like something that's easier to carry around

HecticDialectics
its definitely smaller than the G10... it'll fit tightly in my jeans pocket, easyin a jacket pocket

QUOTE (zjharva @ Nov 15 2009, 09:39 PM) *

go check out the panasonic forum on dpreview.com 50% of the people there use LX3s and post pics ALL the time... all fantastic.
ThatsFishy69
so is this the best camera ( for the money) Im looking for a great camera similar picture quality to an slr or what ever they are called but as small as possible. I am not a pro and do not intend to be but i would like to take some great shots of products for work and pleasure.

I was looking at a cannon that looks close to this which is better i have about 500-600 max.

edit: also hd video would be a plus !

Canon S90 looks really good.

http://www.kenrockwell.com/canon/s90.htm

F2.0 lens=awesome and the larger sensor is great in low light but no hd movie mode?
HecticDialectics
The S90 pictures aren't as sharp as the LX3 pictures. And the S90 F2.0 is only at completely wide open. That quickly gets destroyed the second you even tap the zoom. laugh.gif

It will fit in your pocket a lil better, but the pictures definitely aren't better than the LX3.

I'm not a pixel peeper but am interested in the low light performance.
Whichever camera's AF is better in low light and has better high ISO performance will get my cash.

I'll wait for the review on at DPreview before I make my decision.
HecticDialectics
just go browse the dpreview Canon and Panasonic forums and compare the pics people are taking yourself.

imo it's better to see the wide range from crap to good instead of just the select pictures from a dpreview sample.
