I'm sorry for your loss, but I can't say this enough-- this tank is really impressive.
*thumbs up* flower.gif
pismo_reefer
thanx weets.... i really appreciate the sympathy and compliments....

im trying really hard to get this one right. im doin the research and watchin my params and all that.... thats the main reason im so upset that cruella died...because she shouldnt have. there was no reason for it that i can see.... i just dont get it.

anyways. im just gonna go look for a decent new mate for SP, before he get's too depressed. i feel for the little guy. he was a tank-bred 'exclusive' species. so ya know hes already pretty much inbred. his one eye is blind (im almost certain of this), he's scared of his own shadow (when alone), and the only reason he ever even came out of that corner of the tank, was because of Cruella.... poor bastage.
pismo_reefer
i got SP a new mate.... she's a pretty, mis-barred ocellaris.

i also got something else >>>> ninja.gif

pics tomoro....

your tank is looking amazing.

and your acan fought because there different kinds.your old one is a Acanthastrea lordhowensis and your new one is a Acanthastrea echinata.

yeah.... just figured that out about the acans...
I knew there was a difference between the species, i just didnt know how much, lol....
i just feel bad for the 4 heads that died. sad.gif

and thanx for letting me know wink.gif

the x-men's are dope!

I sold a frag to a LFS.
now, 2 days later, that frag is in their display, laugh.gif

First...
my wifeys turtles are adorable....

($30 a pop for the black one's...but w/ coral prices, how can i argue?)

Second... I got some sexy, new, PurpleGloves!

the gloves were worn while cleaning this fabulous lady....

[w/ Flash!] (these were just after cleaning/ acclimation. this morning.)

[No Flash!] ( a few minutes ago.)

here's her story....

this 3" Squamosa was the last of a small group of clams at JoJo's Aquariums (LFS). kinda the runt of the litter.
no one wanted it.
So, after seeing this clam a few dozen times, i decided it needed a better home.

i felt bad that her intake valve was always gaping in the store, and her colors were starting to bleach a lil'.
Mike, the dude that gives me the sweet deals, told me it was mine for $25, as long as i took it today.
So, i did.
i got her home and discovered the whole colony of pyramid snails on her base....not happy at this point.

i scrubbed her clean, threw her back in a bag (w/ 50% tank-water, 50% new saltwater)...waited 12hrs.
then did it again. im 99% sure i got ALL of the pyramids and their eggs.

she is on the sand for now, still gaping, but getting better.
(shes already gained most of her color back.)
biggrin.gif

Top Left: [New!] Pink Millepora!
Middle: SP's new mate "Farva"
Bottom Right: [New!] Squamosa

First FTS w/ a Clam....

1337TANKHAX
Nice scores! Soon you won't be able to put your hands in the tank man. Haha
pismo_reefer
ya....

im about 90% "hands-out" at this point.

the only time my skin contacts water, is if my fingertips hit the water when im feeding the shrimp.
(and ive been good about stopping that as well.)

i have 14" long medical tweezers that i use....keeps my hands outta the agua.
biggrin.gif

EDIT: I think i forsee a Halide in my near future... dancingnaughty.gif

but in all honesty....i dont plan to add, or do, anything else to this tank for a month.

ill make new videos and take pics still, but i want to let the tank settle again.
pismo_reefer
[New!] Pink Millepora.... (if it has a novelty name, plz let me know.thx.)

w/ friends!

my cam isnt handling the actinic light very well lately....

could this be caused by AEFW?

i didnt see any yet, but im new to sps..... (the flesh has been receeding RAPIDLY, 3-4mm a night!)

Mornin Pismo, that's STN. And it's likely that the flesh will recede until it is all ghostly white. At this point, you should cut a 1" frag from the top, in order to save the piece. How's your alk/Ca today?
blizzardscout2
Hey Pismo, I have been dealing with something similar although not as aggressive. From the advice I have been receiving I would cut the good coral off a little away from the bad part and then place on a new plug. Or you can try placing super glue on the bad part and a little on the flesh. I have been told that can stop it sometimes. But if it doesnt slow, definitely frag it so you can save the coral. I bet with that frag you could make several frags out of it which would increase your chances of survival.

Oh and nice Mille! I love those! cool.gif

OMG purp....you seriously just made my day 10X better!
(AEFW wouldve sucked the big one.)

im gonna cut two 1" frags from the top and see if they can be saved.

Calcium stays @ 440ppm
DKH (alk) @ 10

i dose Kent Tech CB (2ml Cal., 1ml Alk) every morning to keep these params.

EDIT: just tested salinity... 1.026, that wouldnt be the cause would it?

Hey, how much were your orange people eaters? I got some but never knew exactly what they were.
PurpleUP
What's your Mg looking like today? Now that you're keeping SPS, you should target 1300+ for magnesium. It'll help prevent precipitation and stabilize your dKH/Ca. I notice you're keeping those levels a little higher than NSW, which is okay (I do too), but Mg dosing will be key to preventing a crash.

I need to go buy a new Mg test kit blush.gif

'bout to head to the fish stor 2moro... wink.gif

since im dosing "Tech CB"... what Mg supplement would you suggest, Purp?

EDIT: thank you for the priceless info as well....
bluenassarius
your definitely going to need to dose or get it automated. those clams will suck down your alk like a hungry man in a eating contest.
MGDMIRAGE
Another easier way to remember what magnesium should stay at is approximately 3xCalcium level. Love the new clam pismo smile.gif frag that sps and save it!
opy01
Wow, I'm afk for a few days and look what I miss. I bought my wife a 150G tank for her RES a couple of months ago and that thing is a pita to clean lol. I love the black ones too happy.gif .

Nice clam. Isn't it nice to know that the clam likes its new home? You really need to get a Mg test kit fast too. I ordered mine and turns out my Mg was 900. Now I can't keep my calcium above 400 so I am waiting on my Kents Tech M to come in now so I can start dosing that too lol. This is the test kit I got and it's pretty good for the price:
Mg test kit

Sorry about the STN, I hope you get 2 good frags out of it. Just be glad it isnt RTN, thats gotta be the worst since there's nothing you can do.

I almost forgot, hows SP and his new mate? Pics!

theyre doin' GREAT....

she's happy. he's happy. im happy!

Cruella was "wild-caught", so i think that had a lot to do with her only lasting 28days.

"Farva" is tank-bred and is older, so she should be fine.

thx 4 axin' wink.gif biggrin.gif

EDIT: SP took to her before she EVER took to him....lol he was shiverin' and submittin' all over the place, and she was like, "whateva..."
pismo_reefer
the good news:

i just bought a bottle of 'Kent Tech M' (Mg), and a bottle of 'Lugols Solution'...
[*the Lugols is for dipping new arrivals....]

the bad news:

i went to 4 LFS' today to find a Mg test kit.....

out of the 4 i called, 3 said they had it (but DIDNT!), and the 4th had the salifert kit for $35.00!!!
(told me $20 over the phone.)

ugh... not my day today.

anyone in sac have a Mg kit they wanna sell or trade for?
