Hey everyone I'm new to the forum but have been lurking for a while soaking all the info as much as possible and I have everyone on here to thank for that . This 29g has been setup for about 2 months or so and I've been very happy with it so far and all the parameters are spot on. The tank is all stock, took out the balls of fury and added tennis size live rock to replace it, with hydor 100watt heater in the first chamber and filter floss for my mechanical. Please comment!!!

(hopefully ill take some marco pictures)

Welcome to NR,

You've got some nice feather dusters and that blue shroom is cool lookin

You shouldn't need LR in your back chambers, they will act just like bio balls, bio balls really aren't that bad to begin with, basically any form of media such as bio balls, LR, ceramic rings or filter floss that is allowed to accumulate enough detritus long enough to break down and decay is going to cause nitrate spikes

The live rock in your display area will do all the biological filtration and since is in an open area your powerhead and cuc's will keep it clean along with routine water changes

If you want to avoid the problems others have had with "bio balls", keep your back chambers clean and don't forget to siphon them out when u do water changes

Good luck with your tank

Thanks all, i guess i'll just take the live rocks out of the chambers and just put chemi-pure and phos-x in there instead. I'm planning on getting the 4.36 power compact from nanocustoms since the t5 fittings and the metal halides are about the same price and wattages also i can still keep my canopy. Does anyone know if theres any downfalls of this mod, heat, noise, expenses later on, ect?

Many put LR in the back chambers and it does nothing more than if you put it in the main display. Scrape the black paint off the back of chamber 2 only then put a big bunch of chaeto in there and maybe some chemipure. Put a 25 or 30 watt plant light back there. I did this and my nitrates dropped from 20 ppm down to zero.

Change your water weekly and dont over feed and you will not have any nitrate problem.
Tank does look good. I like the rock work, resembles mine.

Before the current fts, sorry for the random pix haha lil tired...

current fts

Sorry couldn't get any good pics of my clams, kinda hard with a point and shoot camera. haha
Trying to run the system with very limited fish for low nutrients. I currently have a orchid dottyback and yellow watchman goby but their both hiding, i would have no fish but i cant seem to catch them. lol Dosing MB7 (microbacter 7) to battle my hair algae problem.

Your tank looks very nice. You need some algae eaters badly, that hair algae going to get worse before it gets better. How old are your lights? And you should be testing for phosphates thats whats causing the hair algae and possilbe old lights, they need to changed every 8 to 10 months.
c'monreef
Thanks...My phosphates are at 0 and nitrates unless my test kits is out of whack haha. I'm thinking its my magnesium being to low causing my algae to go crazy, but im not totally sure thats what i've heard. My light fixture is a sunpod 150w with 14k bulbs and i've had for about 3 months so its pretty new.
