I think there was a thread like this but I couldn't find it.

Anyways, mine are people who say zoos instead of zoas. Zoos are where you take your kids to see the damn elephants. Zoanthids are a type of coral.

Also, cycle nazis and of course the tang police. tongue.gif
Weetabix7
Tang police I get, but what exactly are talking about with "cycle nazis"?
weeber
mine is when ever my lfs sends me an email of the newest shippment he always spells goby like gobi

More or less the uniformed. Those who take what they see on the internet and regurgitate it as advice.

"You have to wait at LEAST ______ weeks before adding anything, blah, blah, blah"

Any peeves Weets?

Ppl who can't make up their mind what they want to do with their tanks. biggrin.gif
Nanobuds
my peeve is mandarin noobs who buy them just that they look cool, and they dont research their needs
Psychosis
Oi I hear you on the "zoos" thing. Grates on my nerves some times, but I don't feel like correcting any one on something so trivial.

Right now my biggest pet peeve is my sand bed. I have some hitch hiker that seems to rearrange the entire thing in the 5 minutes I turn my back on the tank. I've had to dig up my two plates three times in the last week.

Oh, or guys with tanks chalk full of coral who don't even know the common names of half of them. I didn't even think that was possible.
Needreefunds
People who have been in the hobby about three minutes more than the poor noobs they are flaming

I'm ok with the zoo thing....

not much different than meh, lolz, lulz wtf...mirite?

I totally agree with the "zoos" thing along with "cheeto."

I can't stand all these designer zoas and keeping up with names. They're all the same to me and I can't help but snortle when I hear someone say they paid a gazillion dollars for a single polyp.

I can't stand leather corals. They're ugly and fleshy and so blah!

I can't stand Tonga branches. They remind me of chicken feet.

I have plenty of others but those ones instantly come to mind. dry.gif

I'm totally with you on the blingy zoas.

I like leathers sad.gif

Lol at the tonga branch tongue.gif

I meant that loosely. Some toadstools and sinularias are somewhat interesting but most of the leathers I see are just brown and blobby. If my xenias stopped pulsing I would rip them out of my tank in a heartbeat.
DogfoodEnforcer
i cant stand all the zoa names these days. at first it was ok (when i first entered the hobby), but before long i was just saying, "hmm...that pink zoa with the green centre looks cool" instead of, "hmm...that Zeus's Diry Toga zoas are amazing!"

zoas are the marijuana of the reefing hobby. all the stupid names, when in the end they're still zoas/pot.

This.

I love how they always come up with some menacing sounding name for it like "Purple Nipples of Death" or "Pink Baby Killers" or some such. You see, I just made those up. I should name zoas for a living. dry.gif

Scuzzy Glass in between water changes. and of course ZOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOS tongue.gif But I'm sure I have miss spelled it at least once or twice

My least favorite things are people who call clownfish Nemos and Blue Tangs Dorys. I get it. It was a cute movie. Move on.

The fact that I live in Hawaii & all the cool corals you guys get to keep in your tanks is illegal to ship here.
vangvace
The inability of people to google or search.

Salt insecurity. You'd think it was pen0r in a bucket and everyone wants to make sure theirs is the biggest.
xplicit
When my mom pokes at my coral so they can close and open to show off to her friends becuase they never seen such things before.

Try Hanauma Bay...it has some cool corals. You can also sit on the ledge of the Ala Wai canal and see more colorful fish in 30 minutes than you'll ever find in a LFS.
StevieT
People that make pet peeve threads, that really dries my water

Agreed on the crazy names.

Another is going to a reef shop to find all their tanks are filled with nothing but water and algae.

My last pet peeve are Planaria. I hate those things and they are proof that evil exists.

When the LFS has some nice corals and then they put "NFS" next to it. WTF?! Don't put corals on display if you don't want people to buy it. mad.gif

I name my Zoas stuff like Bubba and Myrtle.
Srsly, the whole Zoa naming thing is why BibleSue and I always make up fun food-related names for ours.

do we really need 500000000000000 of the same mandarin questions?
akabryanhall
Going to a coral auction, getting home and realizing they gave you an armor of god zoa frag instead of my amazing people eater. Naming zo0s is awesome ftw.
nickolas_warner
Any "designer" name on a coral. It is all a load of crap. Gorrilla nipples, reverse sunsets, purple hornets, alien fire eye prism. Ugh. Mr. Coral is the worst offender. I swear they make up new names every shipment.
And people asking if you need a special type of aquarium to start a saltwater tank.
polyppetey
People and their hydor-flo questions. Search engine is your friend.

the term nitrate trap or detrius trap. It seems to pop up in every thread.
Live rock rubble is bad as bio balls. Get over it.

Ditto on the flamers and condecending jerks.
Muddguts
West coast people always seem to get the deals. mad.gif

Really? Mine is the opposite - I get very annoyed when reefers don't take the time to learn the scientific names of their corals. Using binomial nomenclature reduces confusion and deepens understanding of the relationships between genera and species. I detest common names, and I tend to just stick with the scientific names in my threads, etc.

I just don't like big words mellow.gif

Zoanthus is shorter than most of the common names given to the different morphs. wink.gif

I also don't like tonga branch rock. It looks ugly imo.

People who have aquariums with no sandbed... wtf are they thinking? I know it's functional, but it's not natural.
Militant Jurist
People who flame newer members with "why did you ask if you weren't going to do as I [we] say?" or along those lines.
glennr1978
people flaming me (happens from time to time) for having "too many fish, or for the tang in my nano". funny thing is i've kept all of the fish quite successfully for longer than they've even been in the hobby most times.

that, and i'm not that fond of using caps.

btw, you can keep a tang in a 40g "long term" without any problems. ~18 months and counting.....

Agreed. Why argue with someone. That pi$$es me off more than anything. If it bothers you that much, quit clicking on the damn thread.

Fish know-it-alls bug me. Just because you read it on liveaquaria doesn't make you an expert. Why do you really care if someone has 8 clownfish in a 12g nanocube?

probs I'll be putting a yellowie tang in a 40br when i get mine up and running...

Its all about the environment you have for it. Unless the guy gets a giant 5-6inches long

I hate people who post a thread asking for advice, then when they don't like the answer they get, they either post another thread asking the same question, or even worse asking for help when they do exactly what experienced folks warned them about....

and the whole "zoanthus sp. thing...if somebody is into the whole name thing, just let them be....the zoanthus sp. answer is soooooo condescending....

+1 they make it sound like that "other site"

and
"I hate people who post a thread asking for advice, then when they don't like the answer they get, they either post another thread asking the same question, or even worse asking for help when they do exactly what experienced folks warned them about...."

and for the nazis who barge into a thread saying" you are all wrong! the only way to do it is.......that's how i do it and it's always been perfectly fine" and instead of helping a newbie causes so much more confusion.
Mr. Fosi
Refrac snobs.

"You must by a refractometer b/c hydrometers will kill your tank and knock-up your daughter!"

Hydros (except for Deep Six brand) are generally fine.
AdriftQuasar
People who have obviously done little to no research before buying something.
