Let me answer that by quoting myself lol...

QUOTE (TJ_Burton @ Jan 5 2010, 02:19 PM) *
The aqualifters came with those brackets. I bought them for cheap from a store who had some of those Tom Rapids Pro PS3 wet dry filters returned and credited. Those brackets come with them so they can sit right near the overflow box they prime.

I lucked out getting them with the brackets. I am sure you can purchase them separately though.

Get some water in there! What are you using for a return pump? I think it's a Maxi-Jet Utility.

I really did love the flow I got from usuing the pair of SCWD's on my 40br. There are a few videos in that thread that show how much massive, indirect, random flow I had in the tank from using two SCWDs (one on a closed loop) and apsolutely no powerheads in the aquarium.

This time around I and going to use a pair of Vortech MP10 pumps instead of a closed loop. I think it will turn out even better!

Hopefully tonight the tank will be full!

Yeah, I am constantly thinking about how I am going to scape this tank. I know how I want it to look in the end all grown in, but how to set up the rocks to produce that effect is going to be difficult. It will be very different than the 40br, and probably more similar to the 20.

It is in fact a Maxi-Jet Utility pump; 5500 I believe (largest model).

I <3 HERBIE

lol... You should come by when it's running and hear how little noise is produced by my system. My computer will probably be louder.
TJ_Burton
OMGWTF? WATER!!!

Well, this may not be a good enough excuse to post more photos to some, but to me it was! lol
R/O unit is all hooked up with an in-line TDS (IN:156 - OUT:000) and is currently filling up my aquarium with wonderfully pure water. I picked up a refractometer and a bucket of Tropic Marin Pro Reef salt today as well. Hopefully by daybreak I can plug in the pump and start mixing some salt into this thing!

Reason enough for celebration to me as well happydance.gif

Well I have the tank running...

Unfortunately the SCWD is rattling quite loudly and I suspect there is a problem with it. I have examined it the best I could and can't see anything inside of it, and I haven't been able to flush anything out of it. Other than that the system seems to be working as expected and is very quiet!

Hopefully I will get this SCWD issue sorted out shortly.

Looks fantastic. I like how you turned the stand into a "built-in" feature of the room.

I'm setting up a 30/40br setup and I'm going nuts trying to figure out how I want to set it up...
acropora1981
Is it secret? Is it safe?

still looking excellent.

looks amazing TJ

was wondering why you didnt place valves in lines coming to and from your SCWD? wouldnt it make it easier for servicing it? I have found they work great for the mony but they due tend to plug...

Tank looks amazing as does the renovations.

Wouldnt mind knowing were you are going to place the Mp10's ?

The tubing isn't hard to get on and off the units (which is why I use clamps) and once I shut down the return pump the water drains from the lines so there isn't anything to use the valve for really.

The ones on my 40br didn't plug up once in the 6 months or whatever it was I had them running. I did clean them out a couple times though.

I am having a huge problem with the SCWD rattling like crazy at the moment. I have contacted the retailer who asked me to run some tests on it before I send it back. Hopefully it is something that I can correct and not have to wait for a new one.

hopefuly it is a quick fix it and your not going to have to wait a week for a replacment... rumor has it your 40br is being set back up badder then ever with a custom one of one 90gal Mrc sump aqua controller 3 calcium reactor and the list goes on.....

oOoOOoo is that so!? tongue.gif
I wonder how all my old corals are doing? huh.gif

again were are you thinking of placing the mp10's ?? you went through so much trouble to keep everything so clean (it does look above and beyond well done) and now your going to put power heads and cords out there for every one to see.....

you will find most of them distrubuted all over the niagara region except for the montis lost them due nudies (grrrrrrrr)

LoL fair enough. tongue.gif

The MP10's are being used for their controllability. Also, there will be no cords visable inside the tank because the Vortech pumps have external motors. They are super low profile and won't stick out past the overflow box. If these pumps had not been invented than I would have run another closed loop like I did on the 40br.

I am just seriously impressed with the Vortech pump's capabilities and would like to harness their wave-making voodoo magic.

If this tank does not get TANK OF THE MONTH/YEAR On EVery Forum once it is setup and once Master TJ Miyagi finishes his aquascape then I will have to wither away and die...

This guy is one of the most knowledgable and creative reefers I know!.

True Master of his Art!

I'll have to frag a White Knight for you too... Make sure to bring the disection kit smile.gif

Quick update:

Got my MP10 and after playing with it on a freshwater 20gallon I have a huge boner for EcoTech Marine! lol... Coolest pump I have ever owned in my life. Easy as pie to get a wave going. Nice compact 3/4" to 1" wave movement on the surface. Soooo I think it should do a decent job on my 30br.

I am still tinkering around with the plumbing. Couple minor leaks around bulkeads and such that I need to sort out asap.

Hopefully by friday I will transfer some livestock over!
TJ_Burton
Well I hooked up the MP10 to my 30br and got a reasonable (but not too big) wave action going on! It doesn't show as well with the main pump on so I turned it off for the video clips.

Take a peek smile.gif

nebthet
That just totally sold me on wanting to get one for my tank... drools... I like the wave action... can't wait to see corals in there with that going on..

I want a mp10 soooooo bad...

Best pump out there, bar none. I've got one on my NC. It's amazing. About as amazing as this build actually. Loving this set up. I almost want to fast forward 12 months into the future to see how awesome it turns out.

I am truly impressed with this Vortech pump and would not hesitate to buy another.
Believe me, I want to fast forward this tank too! lol... Should look a lot more like something this weekend when I transfer livestock from the Solana that I plan to keep!

MP10 FTW best investment ever...

Quick update:

Params in the tank are looking good.
Salinity - 1.026
PH - 8.35
Nitrate - <10
Ammonia - 0
Calcium - 440
Magnesium - >1300
Alkalinity - 11

I am going to bring home some of the soft corals tonight and see how they do. I have some zoas (nothing all that fancy) and xenia (blue, pulsing, and pom pom).

If all goes well I will probably do most of the transfer this weekend!
ribbie
I would probably spend an extra hour a day looking at my tank if I had an MP10.... tongue.gif

This is another awesome build TJ! Love the tank. Nice score on the Solaris.

BTW, nice wood cutting toys biggrin.gif

holy cow dude, you really got that wave going! I'm definately gonna have to pick one of these mp10's up. Looks like these Vortech pumps are quickly becoming standard equipment on reef aquariums!

Well, not much of an FTS since the tank is pretty naked on the inside, but since I do have some corals in there I thought I might as well take a photo.

Is that MP10 hooked up to some sort of controller, or does its standard steady flow create such waves?

I just put an MP10 on my 25 a couple weeks ago, everything loves it!

Well, it's going to be a mixed reef by definition, but will have quite a few SPS. I also plan to riddle it with clams! lol... Fish wise I am still on the fence. Maybe a pair of pink skunks, possum wrasse, red spot cardinals... some sort of shrimp goby.

We'll just have to wait and see!

It is on short pulse at ~80% power & ~15% frequency.

Hope that helps!
