Wish I had a flash.
Lalani
Make a ringflash like I did!
The shot of the watch is sexy.
VicSkimmr
Butterflies, yay!

This one landed on my wife's face laugh.gif
DHaut

Gearing up to build a rig, so I'm looking for good angles (and also prepping the car to put it up for sale)

Sick shots. You're selling your mini? (which one and how much tongue.gif ). And what year is the white cooper s?
Justind823
I just went through this whole thread- great shots!

What kind of dog is that you have?

Not really, we were in the butterfly exhibit in the National History Museum. I had one that wouldn't stop landing on my camera bag and one that kept landing on my shoe.

yeah, i figured it was something like that. but still, a good shot is a good shot.
VicSkimmr
It was actually a lot of fun, there were over 400 butterflies and moths in there and it had excellent lighting. It's great practice for macro shooting biggrin.gif Next time I'll have to remember to user a smaller aperture.
VicSkimmr
This thing is a monster

And thus ended the day

I really wish the forum didn't resize images so severely (or so poorly).
Lalani
Love the squirrel shot, but the gator wins this set!
VicSkimmr
Yeah he was pretty cool, about 2 seconds later that dragonfly landed on his nose and scared him off.

Beautiful
Rocket
wow, for the fireworks shots what lens were you using? seems incredibly fast for those action firework shots.
VicSkimmr
28-135, the exposures range from 2 to 5 seconds I think (most likely 2). There were a lot of fireworks going off.

I just hate that the highlights on the fireworks always get blown out sad.gif
VicSkimmr
Stuff on a golf course

Lalani
Nice hopper. wub.gif
VicSkimmr
How big are they in your area? This was one HUGE, I've never seen them before. The picture is pretty close to actual size. It wasn't even taken with a macro lens.
Lalani
Ya, the ones we have around here don't get that big. Most of ours are thinner and lighter except for some of the katydids.
Deep Thief
#1, nice
#2, wish the focus was on his eye/head and not his hind leg. I like the shallow depth of field but with it being that shallow, you need to make sure its focused where you want it.
#3, I like it
#4, eh, not much there for me
#5, my favorite

JMHO, YMMV, Mark
VicSkimmr
All good critiques, thanks smile.gif
VicSkimmr
I worked on my suspension a little more and wanted to grab some pictures before the sun set so these were hastily set up.

Lit from the wrong side

Tree growing out of it

Very nice, as always...except for the tree growing out of the hood. tongue.gif

Looks like the car has a little camber in on the rear wheels.
VicSkimmr
Just a hair, probably due to it being lowered nearly 5 inches

octoman
hey vic, what camera+lens combination are you using for those grass-hopper shots?
oceanbaby<3
Your photos are awesome and I like your car smile.gif
I have a question though cuz I've seen cars lowered like that and always wondered...
What happens when you go over speed bumps?

I think those were taken with our XSi and 75-300 telephoto, but if I had the choice at the time I'd have used my 40D and Sigma 150 macro.

Thanks! You learn to avoid them, and if you have to go over them you take them at an angle to help with clearance. I haven't had to go over a speedbump in over a year though, most of them are avoidable.

Love all these!
VicSkimmr
Found this guy in the driveway when we visited the house site today happy.gif
animalmaster6
Awesome!

Do you focus on the eye? I took some pics of frogs recently and I tried focusing on the eye. Result- my best pictures yet.
VicSkimmr
Yeah the eyes are the most important thing to get in focus. I also try to close down the aperture enough to get the entire head in focus, but the eyes are the most important.
animalmaster6
Yep.
I use all sorts of reef photography tips for animals.
