Nice, I haven't been able to catch any lightning so close before. And I know what you mean about the lens fogging up.. happened to me just a couple of days ago. Had to set the camera outside for a few minutes to warm up before I could start shooting, pita!

Yeah no doubt, thanks for the compliment!

Ok question: should I sell my 17-40 and replace it with a 10-22?
Lalani
Aug 12 2009, 02:43 PM
I thought you loved the 17-40? Wanting to go wider like the rest of the cool kids?
VicSkimmr
Aug 12 2009, 02:47 PM
Yes ma'am

It just seems kind of pointless to have 2 wide angle lenses. I can't really think of a situation where I would choose the 17-40 over the 10-22 (assuming I get a mid-range lens soon).
I might make this my list:
Canon 10-22
Canon 24-70 F4L
Canon 70-200 F4L
Canon 100-400 (yeah right lol)
I do love my 17-40 though. It just seems stupid to hold on to it thinking that eventually I would upgrade to a FF body when the 10-22 suits my needs better.

Yeah, good plan and nice list.. I've been wanting that 100-400 for a long time, along with the 65mm MP-E *sigh*

Holy Sh*t! Your brother has an Exige?!?!?! Great shots of the Lotus and the new ones of your ride.
My buddy got to AutoX a friends Elise at the last race. He had a blast.
VicSkimmr
Oct 13 2009, 11:39 AM
Yeah he just got it recently. It's an '06, he got it for about $30k. It has an aftermarket supercharger (the Exiges weren't SC'ed in '06) and a ton of aftermarket CF, but that's all I know about it.

That's awesome. I cant imagine a boosted one. 30 is a good price too, the lower mileage Elise's are still that much.

QUOTE (VicSkimmr @ Oct 12 2009, 10:42 AM)

More rolling shots. I was hoping to get some decent fall colors but mostly failed.
I think I'm spent on rolling shots, I need to do some more static stuff.
what about some rig shots???
VicSkimmr
Oct 14 2009, 09:03 AM
I actually have all the pieces I need for that priced out, I just haven't bought them yet. That's definitely high up on my photography shopping list though. It's #2 behind a decent mid-range lens.

Your outdoor shots are great! But you definitely need to get a proper flash for the wedding shots.
I never got a flash until this year when i went to a number of weddings, and it's a whole different ball game when you can bounce light off walls/ceilings.

Yeah no kidding, haha. This hobby needs to start carrying it's own weight, I can't afford all the toys I need/want to get for it.
I picked up a 40D and 75-300 (crappy lens, I know) for my wife for her birthday, so I'm broke as hell right now. Luckily she decided to take my XSi instead so I've finally got a body that fits in my hands. that's what she said

For some awesome rig shots, and good automotive photography in general, check out Kyle's flickr. He's a NC guy who has greatly improved his picture taking in just the last year. Doesn't hurt that he finds some baller cars to photograph.

"monochromatic" and it has to include your car in the picture somewhere.

i was gonna say that you've posted much better pics of your car than that one.....but never mind.

Awesome pics man and awesome mini i've drooled over it several times. What kind of paint is on it? flat white?
VicSkimmr

Thanks! It's vinyl, not paint, and yes, it's flat white

I like the contest photo. I'd say you nailed the monochromatic considering the line between drivers side rear quarter panel and the wall is lost.

Woot I finally found a decent light painting tool! Now I just need some different colored theatrical gel and a ton of practice

First attempts:

I also need to get a remote shutter release, 30" isn't near long enough to construct this type of picture.
latazyo
Nov 2 2009, 11:08 AM
do you have "bulb" mode?
please elaborate on this "decent light painting tool"
I need one too....what kind of gels are you going to use/buy
VicSkimmr
Nov 2 2009, 11:21 AM
I found this at Lowe's:

The light spread is ok. It's pretty concentrated but I think I can get the hang of it eventually.
I have a buddy (well, brother-in-law) who does lighting for a living, I'm going to talk to him to see what kind of options I have for theatrical gels. I'll let you know what I find out

Oh, and yeah, my camera has a bulb mode, but don't have you to hold the shutter open to have it work? Or can you set it to click once to open and click again to close?
latazyo
Nov 2 2009, 04:17 PM
do you have a cable release?
the one I use has a click and lock thing so you can either just push the button or lock it in for bulb mode
I see what you're saying now...yeah you'd have to hold it the whole time

He loves the snow. I just wish I didn't have to give him a 20 minute shower to get the snow balls off his legs every time.

We used to just fill up the tub with warm water and put our dog in it till it all melted. A lot easier than spraying the snow till it melted.
Nice shots, too.
