Make sure its not tempered before you attempt to drill.
It's a 40 breeder, it
should be fine. Unless its some off brand or something.

nah, is AGA - they don't temper their 40B's. And I drilled a hole on my other tank so I know how it's done. I still get nervous though, lol. And I have to drill 3 of them on this beast.

I want to do a 40b, but I know drilling will make me nervous. Never done it, and really like cleanliness of no HOB filters or overflows.

Personally, I would make the last baffle (after the fuge area) taller. If your drain gets clogged, your pump will remove all water down to the level of that last baffle. Don't want to overflow the tank, or kill whatever you have in the fuge area. Just sayin'

Evap will happen / show up right there, so my thinking was to make that baffle just high enough to contain substrate. This way I can utilize that entire volume ( almost) before my sump runs dry. Pick your poison I suppose.

Didn't think I would have the space available - I had an idea, but it didn't work out. As it turned out I never did set one up. Certainly would be the way to go should you build that last wall higher. As I said, many ways to get it done.

Cool!
I just hacked mine back quite a bit a few weeks ago, and it's already completely grown back. I'm thinking of starting a second bush, so that I can get even more growth. The downside is that I don't sell much of it locally. Might have to start shipping soon. Now that I think of it, I need to hack it back some tonight, because it was starting to cover the AOGs again.

Nice! I think there are a lot of people in the area who would be interested, but the problem is that many of them are old school reefers who haven't caught on to this new-fangled inner-net thingamajig. Oh, and the local club has both a website of its own, and a subforum on RC, so I guess quite a few of the members just frequent the subforum rather than the club's own forum. I may have to list some flame algae on there. One local reefer suggested ebay. I might give that a try... and I might list here on NR too.

Indeed it is! Although, with flame algae, just a little bit of water and a flat rate USPS box would make it pretty easy. Just need to stock up on small shipping bags.

Ah yes, you and your big city commute. I suppose that does put a damper on shipping. It would also put a damper on receiving packages by mail, especially that fusion reactor.

I like being able to drive to work. Right now, I walk a few blocks from my free parking spot, but come this fall, I should have a parking spot right behind my office.

Nice - I hope you have better luck with silicone then me. It was a war and I totally lost. I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to put the silicone in between the baffles so I just figured no one will see this. But it bothers me to this day that I made a mess of it.

i'm getting glass baffles cut. last time i did baffles, I just put the baffle in place and then siliconed the seam and spread it between the glass with my finger. it's never pretty, but who cares because it's a sump.

Are you hard plumbing or using tubing?
I just had to decide and I went with the hard plumbing with a 1/2" adapter on the end with about 1 - 2 feet of high pressure vinyl tubing. I have yet to install it but I hope tonight I will and I can then get pictures of the first dry run of plumbing.

I found something a bit funny today from Fox News' Talking Points section:
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
PEGGY WEST, MILWAUKEE [County Democrat] SUPERVISOR: If this was Texas, which is a state that is directly on the border with Mexico, and they were calling for a measure like this, saying that they have a major issue with undocumented people flooding their borders, I would have to look twice at this. But this is a state that is removed from the border.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Mr. Chairman, I just wanted to assure my colleague that Arizona does in fact share a border with the country of Mexico.
