i kinda like how the females of NR are starting to take over with amazing tanks...

cool.gif
SeeDemTails
From working at a LFS, on average most women have nicer tanks than men, atleast out of our customers. They usually care more about them. Just sayin!

Yeah, I think I might just upgrade to better (Geissman) actinic bulbs to help with the color. Also, I think things may still be lacking color from the electrocution. mellow.gif

Hehe, we'll see how quickly the yuma splits. wink.gif

Maybe it has something to do with the natural urge for a woman to nurture. IDK smile.gif

Your tank looks GREAT. Even with the algae! It gives it an organic look smile.gif Awesome new additions! I must get a pink yuma wub.gif
Lalani
Haha, thanks! Hopefully the algae will be completely gone in the next couple of weeks. I only have.... maybe three astrea snails in there, so they are a little slow at cleaning up the back wall. I could scrape it, but I don't want to lose the coralline that is popping up. I'm going to see how the tank looks with a solid coralline covered back wall. smile.gif

Take a toofbrush to it! tongue.gif

Clears most of it, its easy on the coralline, and da astreas will clean the rest. wink.gif

Hi sexpants, and Sweetie. flower.gif

We are now -1 SPS.... The digata lost all of it's tissue overnight a couple of nights ago. eek3.gif sad.gif sad.gif
The others are looking great though.
I just need to rescape the left side of the tank, so I can put he LPS at a lower level and the SPS up high.
purplefirefish
did you see the rics on larc for sale?
Lalani
The 10 for $100? Yeah, pretty good deal. Are you getting some?

Lani, how are you dealing with the algae? My tank is going through the same thing sad.gif bleh!
I had to move it and now it's all fuzzy like a new tank. Did you just bump up the crew? or any special regiment?

SeeDemTails
Are you dosing anything....Like 2 part?

I.. umm... I'm not doing anything, lol.
The tank is only a few weeks old, so it's at the end of it's 'new tank' phase. The algae is dying off by itself. I haven't added any new CUC, and there are only around 3 astreas, 4 or 5 hermits, and two nassarius snails. Haven't done anything special... I've only done one water change so far. I dunno.. unsure.gif

Nope, no dosing.

Do you know what you alk is? I will almost bet that may be to blame for the digi. Alk is uber important for SPS.

I like B-ionic, it is a great suppliment. My tank uses 40ml a day! I bet your tank need about 5-10ml a day.

Do some more water changes you! biggrin.gif

Well, awesome minds think alike. Actually, I think I need more emphasis on the "awesome" of that previous sentence, like in the form of flashing lights and sirens and buzzers and bold and funny colours and a whole line of cabaret dancers... but eh, it'd still only be a shadow of our collective mind's awesomeness.

Sucks about the digi though Laniface, that was a pretty sweet frag sad.gif how did it go, did it lose all of its tissue like it was sloughing or brown out first?

Yeah, does suck.. I noticed some of the tissue on the tip was damage and peeling away, but I figured it was just where I put my finger when I was gluing it to the plug. Well, the next morning, all of the tissue was gone. I suppose it just sloughed off. sad.gif
SeeDemTails
Yep, RTN. Basically only alk could cause it. Everything else in you tank is to healthy for it to be liek NO3 or NH3/4.

I would guess your alk is like 2.5 or less. It is tough to get it up, but your gonna have to.
dtfleming
OMG get your alk up, ..........................
Lalani
According to my older test kit.... 3.5... but I don't really trust it. I'll need to buy a new test... unsure.gif
n0rk
What brand is it? So far I've found Salifert to be pretty damn accurate with their readings, if you can find them...
Lalani
Seachem. I also have an API kit, but it doesn't include an alk test.
The other SPS pieces still look great, though. fingersx01.gif
n0rk
Lol, your other test may be accurate then and the digi was just being a little #####... Always good to have a reliable test on hand though.
SeeDemTails
Digi's are the pickiest montis IME.

3.5 is good if thats the fact, but it doesnt seem to fit.

If your gonna throw cash down, make it a salifert, its all I use.

Watch the others closely.....Acros are more hardy than montis, and less quick to show stress. But they still need high alk and ca to thrive. Your lights are fine, just get the ca/alk in blace and your golden.
Lalani
See, this is why I've stayed away from SPS... picky stuff. sleep.gif
I'll have to order from some place to get salifert. Guess I'll need tests for alk, calcium, and magnesium?

If it was the alk then the monti would not have been the first to go, the acros would be. That monti is a lot more hardy than any of that other SPS is I sent her. Stuff just happens sometimes.

No offense SDT, but I dont think your right on this one.

You really think that a acro is more hardy than montis? huh.gif IME thats just not true.

Its 4 little frags. Keep up your water changes and you should be ok for a while. They wont use that much. Its not like you have huge colonies.

K.. I should probably get new test kits anyway and actually put a little effort into this reefing gig. wink.gif

Oh.. and the YCG has suddenly become interested in those frags....... If I catch him nipping, he's gonna be in big trouble. dry.gif

He wont. He might just be checking things out.
SeeDemTails
And no offense to you paul flower.gif , but I have to disagree with all you said. Acros are hardier than most montis, especially digitatas, specifically when it comes to RTN from low alk. Stuff does happen, but I have seen consitently that Acros are less likely to RTN than digitatas from low alk. Knowing lani and her tank, I have to suspect thats what it is. Now if we were talking caps I would have to agree, but digitatas are another story IME.

Also, if her alk is low, water changes will help right now, no doubt first and foremost, but she needs to get on a doising schedule ASAP, if she is keeping SPS.

The 4 little frags are not consuming much yet, but who is to say it wasnt already low? The SPS is just reacting to it, where as the softies have no issue with low no3, in addition to low alk, and possibly low ca.

YCG are not as likely to nip as GCG, but watch him. Dont be afraid to scare him away from them. Gobies are sketchy little fish, and easily influenced.

Well, my orange monti-cap continues to grow and encrust it's bit of rubble and a larger encrusting monti I got from Urchinhead bleached in shipping but is coming back. Perhaps the sunset was just a lightweight.
Lalani
Sorry about the sunset monti. sad.gif
Mr. Fosi
Yeah, it was a bummer but everything else (including a big digi) is doing great so I'm not dwelling on it. I will eventually get another frag of it and give it another go.

In the meantime, I am trying to manage the frag-fest that my display has become... Hence my desire for a DIY mag-rack as I mentioned in Weet's thread.

I'll tell you that one coral I really love is the huge micromussa I got from Urchinhead. That thing has a great look even though it isn't as flashy as some others. Plus, it is always ready to eat so it's a good demonstration for people who don't realize that they are animals. biggrin.gif
