All I want for Christmas is a pretty Pink Yuma....
Hey, one can dream.
I think your hat needs some blinky lights.

*waves* hi lani.
so the masked gobies don't do well in groups, eh? what's the max number you've tried?
Lalani
Dec 3 2009, 10:53 AM
Mernin!
Ime, no, they haven't done well in groups even though they are supposed to be schooling fish. Largest group I tried was 7 of them in the 40br. They killed each other off until only a pair remained. I think kinetic is going to try some in his 80-something gallon tank soon.
DHaut
Dec 3 2009, 10:56 AM
good to know. i think i'm going to go with green bandeds in my top tank. i may try a rusty goby pair down the road if all is going well, though i would rather have some type of open water fish to encourage the shyer ones to come out and explore. maybe something like a smaller cardinal. i don't know. one of my eviotas teleported to the bottom tank somehow and now the other one hides in a crevice between my false rock wall and the back glass. i never see it - don't even know if it's eating.
darn fishes!

Yeah, I need more fish in this tank.. maybe after xmas, if I'm not dirt poor.

Weetie...I have a cat that looks a lot like that (well...from the eyes up). Is it yours? Cute pic.

Edit: Sorry Lalani. I didn't realize this was your thread....and not a threat about weetie's (potential) cat.

Dec 3 2009, 11:05 AM
One occ. clownfish and the masked goby pair.... that's it.
Fish just don't seem to like this tank.. lost my red banded hi-fin, mandarin (jumped), jawfish only lasted a couple of days, 5 masked gobies, other occ clownfish jumped once then I moved him to the 15gal where he jumped 4 more times... 5th time being his last and successful suicide attempt.

Have you considered a suicide screen?
DHaut
Dec 3 2009, 11:08 AM
ever thought about making a mesh top? i just did one for my top tank and it's super easy. bought the 1/4" mesh from acroholic (thread somewhere in selling) and got the screen kit at Lowes. A hacksaw and 30 min. later i had a top.
then maybe you could go with a mated pair of yellow-heads from sealife, a goby/shrimp pair, or maybe one of the decorative wrasses.
lol...damn you scott!

Probably a good idea since you seem to have a lot of jumpers.
and...offer still stands.

Dec 3 2009, 11:18 AM
Well, beside the very much suicidal clownfish, the only other jumper was the mandy..
Don't want to lose anymore if it can be helped though.
I'll def. keep you in mind if I have trouble making the screen.

Ok, so I'm open to suggestions for fish I could add... once I make a screen, of course.
Was thinking a new occ clownfish in hopes of the two pairing, a couple of bottom dwelling gobies (possibly pistol shrimp/gobies), tailspot blenny, flasher or carpenter wrasse or school of cardinals? I dunno.

Lalani - First, congrats on the tank of the month. Very cool tank!
As for fish, I love smaller fish and inverts. Here's a few you should try and get...
Aioliops megastigma - Small, school, peaceful. Also called Mini Dart Gobies.
Eviota pellucida - Small and cool
Trimma cana - You can pair them and look cool perched on rocks.
Trimma rubromaculatus - Same as above but cheaper
Tryssogobius colini - They look like mini Firefish, bright blue eyes and also school. Very cool
Hope this helps!

Get a nice fairy wrasse

they are definite jumpers tho, I lost 2 and 2 carpenters to carpet surfing

and my Leopard wrasse in the 125 keeps jumping in to the overflow

then I have to wait and worry till he goes thru the plumbing into the sump and then chase him around till I catch him...pain in da arse.
a school of cardinals would be very cool tho and different!
hows about a midas blenny? great personality
