Crap. I have some in my fuge that I use to keep my macro from getting into my pump chamber. Having a small cyano issue right now in my display. Wonder if they are related? I don't have anything actually growing on the eggcrate though. That will blow if that is the problem. I attached the eggcrate to the top of the baffle w/Weld-on!

Does the stryene eventually completely leach out over time? Sorry to hijack Lani!

Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but I think my water change water is the culprit here....I don't think it's the RO/DI as I've been topping off with it, but maybe the salt mix. I did a 4gal water change on the 40br yesterday and several hours later some of the daytripper zoas were closed and the frogspawn was a little more shriveled than normal... I hope I'm just being paranoid and everything will be open when I get home today.

Fought the snot and other algal issues for months before finally throwing in the towel on my 20L prop tank.
I had it loaded with white eggcrate racks.

I had already broken it down before I read about the snot / eggcrate relationship issue.

I think -eventually- it may be ok as I have a small rack made from the same sheet in another tank that shows no signs. This rack has been in use -off and on- for approx two years though.

Bulk Reef Supply sells black eggcrate, something like $10 for 2 sq. feet.
I got some the last time I placed an order with them.

Tested with a Salifert kit twice, same result both times.


Also tried my other Seachem test kit, but it says the dkh is around 7. I should throw that one out.

Guess I'll be doing a couple of water changes this weekend. Freshly mixed salt water (using IO mix) tests at around 12dkh. Didn't test calcium.

Sounds like my tank recently... somehow I managed to get the dKH up to 36 (the test kit won't read that in high-res mode, I wonder why.. ) and the Ca down to 190. Many water changes ensued!

I think what happened was, I may have accidentally used some of the top off water which I had added baking soda to when the dkh was too low. I must have mixed those jugs in with the plain top off water... that's all I can figure.
Fresh IO sw tests at around 12dkh.

Finally got around to removing the frag rack and moved the mp20 over a bit.





Sexy shrimp are doing well. Two stick around the mini nems towards the back of the tank, but the third has taken up residence on the pink yuma in the front.

funny, my tropical tank has the exact opposite problem.

calcium - something above 600, it's of the chart.

I've added so much buffer it's crazy but it doesn't help, so I've given up. We need to trade tank water or something. Or, if you fixed yours, you need to tell me the secret.

Jamie - baking soda is what I used to raise my dkh, upon suggestion from Mr. Fosi and others. Did the trick...... maybe too well, lol.

Hay Kimmybear, just a protip from a pro (lols, well, retired pro anyway). When you make .gif animations, try to make every frame line up properly or it freaks the eyes the #### out. Just a note. Otherwise they look schweet
