I think that one is my fav of the SPS pieces.


Well, I'm only running 4 of those bulbs (2xActinic+, 1xFiji Purple, 1xAquablue+) and it still seems like too much light for my softies... and also, still too 'white.' This weekend, I may just take out the aquablue+ entirely and see how it looks with only those three actinics.

I don't know. It's kind of frustrating because when I had the 20H, it was looking so nice with a Sundial and those cheapo bulbs (3 actinics and one 10K). The color was perfect. Everything looked awesome and grew so well in there.... but I just can't seem to get the 40br in the same conditions... Kinda wish I had bought a Sundial for this tank. *sigh*

Noice girl! yeah the 6x 39w over the 46 was waaaaay to much for my softies and LPS, stuff was very unhappy and i actually had some bleaching...I ended up taking out 2 bulbs...which kinda defeated the purpose of going with a really nice fixture.
I thought it would be perfect since the 46 is a deep tank....I sux

Just a thought Kim, it is entirely possible you got so used to seeing these same corals under the Sundial's stock lighting which may be the reason for not liking the new ones so much. As an outsider, the colours (from my pov anyway) are much better balanced and have a more uniform appearence over when they were in the 20. The frags look more 'pro', I guess.

I wish that was the case, Ben, but the colors of almost all of the zoas have faded and become washed out. My red-skirts are no longer red (), my deep purple rics are lavender, my frogspawn used to have a deep healthy coloration and it inflated big time, now it's just a drab, small, bunch of heads.... The rics don't open like they used to, but instead they are shrunken. And the list goes on.

Aw man, here I was hoping for the best but you come and smash it with the worst sux. Is there any way you can frag them off and put them back under the original light? Surely preserving what you can would be a good thing...

Ah, I had thought about fragging the zoas and placing them in the 15gal which now has the sundial over it... but the sexies reside in there now. They enjoy the taste of zoa skirts.. so I wouldn't want them to eat whatever I put in there.
There are still a few red-skirts hiding in the shade, I think, that haven't turned orange.. so I have my fingers crossed that once I get the lighting sorted out, I may still have some.... Otherwise, I may have to buy some from Richie or Maria, lol.

Hope zoas and frogspawn can revert to their former glory once the lighting is sorted out.
Heck, I might sell the Tek and buy a Sundial..

Edit: Anybody interested in a 6-bulb Tek fixture w/all new bulbs and mounting legs?
OR... hrm..... maybe I can just sell the bulbs and 'downgrade' to the slimpaq t5 bulbs that did so well in the sundial............ By golly, I think I may have found the solution.

I have a friend in my local Reef Club that might actually be interested in the TEK if you're serious about selling.
If so, PM me a price.

I'll definitely keep that in mind, Weetsabee, but I think I'll hold on to it for now and see if the slimpaq bulbs do the trick.

I am sorry to hear of the troubles Lani...there def is such a thing as too much light cause I witnessed it for my self...now that everything is in the 125g with the Catalina fixture everything is looking much much happier. You know I got a frag of lalani zoas for joo,I have a couple growing...lemme know when you are ready

Thanky guys, and guess what... maybe have found the easiest solution of all.... Switched out the one white-ish bulb, the aquablue+ with a pure actinic and the color looks damn nice now.
