My camera doesn't really catch the color good in this tank. New phoenix hasn't really burned in yet and is still blue. They are super bright pink...havn't gotten an ID on them yet, but they are sweet.

I will upload a pic of them under my other lighting so you can see the difference.

Anyone have an I.D. on the first and third frags shown? I know about zoaid.com but some of the pictures aren't of great quality on that site and I sometimes have trouble differentiating.

I like your frag tank. Any plans on getting acans and fragging them? Im the first inline if you do. wink.gif

Hey Carlton! Dude, I'm lovin your tank! Zoas are by far my favorite coral and I'm always looking for more to buy/trade. I looked thru the thread and it seemed ur from Cali but I was just wondering, where? It'd be cool to do some trading or somethin.

I am actually close to you Royreef. I am down just south of Stockton in a town called Escalon. I would love to trade and/or sell some frags. I am always looking for new zoas along with rics and acans. let me know and we can meet up.
Roryreef
I know exactly where that is. Funny, I'll be passing through there on my way to Yosemite tonight! I'll be headed out late & w a bunch of others so I won't have time to stop by. I'll pm you cuz I'm free next weekend and have a frag or two we could swap. Keep up the good work, your tank is off the hook!

Making a frag tank is not hard at all. Maintaining it and keeping all the frags and colonies is what is important. It all depends on what is in your frag tank.

It's not a jbj nano, it's actually a 30gallon oceanic. Thanks for checkin it out.

Thanks dude. Looking to add more. I want to get a few colonies of some rarer zoas/palys. First I need to make some more frags so I can trade for some acans and sps.

For sure...It will be a couple of weeks before this batch is ready. I like to wait until obvious growth has occurred. Keep your eyes peeled. Thanks for checkin out my setup.

Nice setup! Makes me want to get a bigger tank and turn my Aquapod into a frag tank.

I did the same thing once I got a bigger display. I turned my aquapod into a frag tank. I got more into it and upgraded again. I found the current tank I have, which is an Oceanic 30g with a stand for $40. So I sold my AP24 and stand for the same price and did a transfer. I liked the AIO aspect of the aquapod, but the way the back chambers are shaped + the curvature of the glass, it really was tough for me to get the most out of the volume. I originally wanted a shallow tank, but the deep one works out if I decide to frag other corals that require higher light. I am trying to design a multiple tear rack system...I am fairly happy with my frag racks now, but I am playing around with a few designs and I am sure I will switch within a month or so.

Nice great job

sorry on the delay. Starting fragging in just a minute. woo hoo!
pmoradi2002
you need more rare stuff tongue.gif
Carlton'sTank
rare just means you have to pay more for a name. I just go for the colors I like. Plus, people get way uptight when you are selling any king of zoa for over $10 a polyp. I will just wait until it's not super popular and grab it if I like it.

Pmoradi2002 I got your PM. You have some decent stuff, but nothing I would qualify as "rare". I don't know if rare is the right word anyways. Any rare coral is actually sold in abundance by vendors and should just be labeled as "expensive". I understand that they are relatively rare and the whole demand/supply deal but it seems to suit materialists the best. I am not knocking those that fit this category, but those who buy rare corals are probably the same people that like name brands and "high-end" items in general, not just this hobby.

Picture update time!

I took off the sump and am going to throw on a HOB fuge and a HOB skimmer. The sump was noisy since I couldn't fit the size I wanted in the stand.

I just did some fragging and am going to refill the rest of the racks sometimes in the next week and then let it all sit for a few more weeks.

What is that SPS on this last pic, left side, top and it is red. It looks neat lol
Carlton'sTank
It is actually an acro. It started as a frag that was mounted horizontally and it was a blueish color. It fell behind some rock work in my display and I put it in my frag tank about 6 weeks ago. It has come back to life a bit and I am about to transfer it back to my display and see what happens.
Lawnman
Cool little frag tank. Is that a Viper light? Looking good. Can't wait to get my new frags.

It is actually the coralife brand. I am happy with the light. In the future I would like to get a long tank and run t5's, but I got a good deal on the light ($100) and the tank was $40 with the stand so I went with it. I wanted to get rid of the frag racks in my display at the time so I went with a small frag setup. There are a bunch of things I would change if I could start over from scratch, but I am overall happy with it.

I am in the process of transporting my colonies to the larger tiles and getting rid of all of the rocks. I want to get a variety of zoa palys rather than 10-15 types all on live rock which take up the bottom of my tank. It is all a process and I am in no real rush, which I have found to be good in this hobby.
Carlton'sTank
I am going to get down and do some fragging today. I will post some pictures when I am done.

I have also been trying to thin out the rock in my frag tank. I am slowly transferring the colonies onto larger tiles so I can have more room to work with.
Carlton'sTank
I have been lagging so bad on updates. Coming soon I promise...it looks different than my last post.
Mustang Boy
i just read through this whole thread for the first time and the frag tank looks amazing i will be paying alot of attention to this thread to see your updates and one day maybe purchasing some frags from you

I really appreciate it. I am going to start updating more often. I coach soccer from August to November so I was super busy for a while there. The last month was crazy because of the holidays, but now I am able to focus in a bit more.
Carlton'sTank
Alright here is an update. Don't laugh at the maxijet without the flow mod, I am waiting for a new k2 to arrive. I am also going to add a AC110 fuge or a CPR aquafuge, undecided at this point. I am leaning toward the AC110 so I can get the surface skimmer attachment, surface scum bugs me....bad!

Here are the pictures

willyboy
Nice zoas!
Carlton'sTank
Thanks. Hoping to get some new colonies in the next month or so.
Mustang Boy
looking good

Carlton'sTank
Thanks I appreciate it. I am going to be revamping the mother colonies soon. I am going to elevate everything 4-5 inches from the bottom, place all live rock and build another rack on top of that to hold the colonies which are in the process of being transferred onto the larger 3x3 tiles. I can get everything off of the bottom to help when I vacuum the detrius, and also I will have by colonies about 10-12" closer to the light. I am also contemplating removing the clamp on function of the light and hanging it. It will be closer to the surface and I will make some room to house an aquafuge or aquaclear mod.

Looks great. You always have nice frags. Maybe I will buy some from you sometime. biggrin.gif

Well my girlfriend took our camera down to LA so pics will have to wait until Tuesday. Bummer!
Carlton'sTank
Well, I am going to be starting a new thread because this tank is coming upon the last days. I have a new frag tank coming that is smaller in volume, but better in the dimensions. It is 24x14x8 and has a built in overflow that is broken up into, overflow, fuge area and return. I am pretty excited to set up more of a traditional frag tank and not have to battle this column anymore. I really liked this tank, but I have been wanting to get something that is shallow and wider for a while. I will keep this thread updated until I do the switch, which may be another two weeks or so.
