Carlton'sTank
Alright, I have am now at the point where I will post some pictures, but there is still a bunch that I am going to change.

Equipment:
150 watt coralife clamp on w 20K
nano koralia
upgraded stock pump to mj1200
hob (actually hang on side) cpr bak pak 2 (run it bi-weekly)

changed the back chamber into a fuge with cheato. I am currently taking a little sand out each time I do a water change, so hopefully within a month or two it should be bare bottom. I am going to stack liverock in the section behind my frag rack. I am slowly getting rid of some frags so I can boost up some of the colonies I have. So far so good. I am taking it slow and I have been waiting my frags out rather than just selling/trading them like crazy. I want to make sure I establish a good system instead that can help with stocking my display and help fund my hobby....habit.....addiction.

Here is a pic of both of my systems:

here is one of just the frag tank
SulfurAcid
Sweet!
Carlton'sTank
Thanks Acid, I appreciate it. I still got a ways to go to get it to where I want.
edge0310
thats awesome! how many have you fragged?
weeber
On the mid shelf closer to the right are those pink polyps my AOG's!!!!
smashbeat
Great setup!
A question, why do you run the skimmer bi-weekly?

Carlton'sTank
sure are weeber.

After doing some research I found a lot of stuff about zoas producing more with dirtier water. It was a big article about zoas near the Solomon Islands thriving in dirty water. Zoas don't require the pristine water that sps corals do. I do see some of the logic on my findings, but I just like to skim the week before a water change. Also, I noticed the evap is way higher when I run the skimmer. I run the skimmer on my display around the clock though.
burnofvengeance
How do you like the cpr bak pak 2?
Carlton'sTank
works good for an hob and you can find them cheap. I couldn't find anything to fit in my back chamber and I didn't want to loose the space. I like my aqua c urchin (I think that is what it is called) made by remora that I have in the sump/fuge of my display. That thing is quiet and get some serious skimmate without being a heavy duty skimmer.
Pablo
sweet but did you say how big it is?
Carlton'sTank
24 gallon aquapod.
Carlton'sTank
Alright, I basically cleared everything out of the racks that were pictured when I started this thread. I have been getting everything situated and I did a little bit of reorganizing so here are some updated pics

STARTING MY FOR SALE THREAD THIS WEEK, so if you have any questions you can PM me, I am not trying to use this as a sales thread only showing my attempt at aquaculture. Thanks!

kate2118
nice tank! my frags are doing great! i'll keep an eye out for your next batch! wub.gif
Carlton'sTank
Thanks, I appreciate it. I am still collecting colonies so hopefully I can be completely stocked up by this summer.
Mr. Fosi
I like the original pics. That's something like I'd like to do but in a 20L.
Carlton'sTank
The original rack looked way more functional than it actually was. It really limited the space I had for colonies and LR. I actually have more colonies but it looks like less because they are not all up against the front of the glass. I went with the hanging rack because it is easy to remove for any kind of dips and cleaning...I am probably going to connect another level a few inches lower that branches off adjacently as well.
Mr. Fosi
True... I hadn't thought of those contingencies.
Carlton'sTank
There was a lot of stuff I never thought about with a frag tank until I set one up as well. Still trying to find the ideal setup.

I also modded the HOB CPR Bak Pak by hanging it on the back intstead of the side. The mj pump is now in my first chamber and I had to buy some parts to lengthen the return to fit over the back wall and dump back into the display portion of the tank. I like having the extra suction in the back chamber because it helps move the water from the display to the back chambers and works as a better surface skimmer. I am trying out some new frag plugs as well. I am going with glass squares instead of rock for a while. The rock worked rather well, but they were heavy and weighed down my frag plugs that were help up with suction cups

I really want to get some plastic coated magnets and make mag frags for single frags. I know people love the clean look on the back wall, but I would love to get my back wall covered with some nicer zoas...i

Lastly is an idea to slowly transfer my colonies to standard tiles. I want to aquaculture my zoas/palys to grow on tiles for propagation. It would be easier to frag and way more efficient not having to deal with porous rock. I would then be able to contain the live rock underneath an elevated rack similar to what I was intending to do with the original frag rack I had.
weeber
dang carlton us gots lots of zoas smile.gif
Carlton'sTank
Thanks Weeber. I am just trying to collect, collect, collect as of now. I still want to get more high end stuff in my collection, but that will come with time.
Carlton'sTank
Some frags from this afternoon...will probably hit up one of my other colonies tomorrow.

kyrie_eleison
wow!

Seeing what you can do with nano tank is impressive. It's given me a great deal of inspiration!
jok312
very nice i was thinking of doing the same
Carlton'sTank
Thanks for the comments guys....still trying to see how I can best use the space available. I made some changes.

I took out the last of the sand about a week ago and added a few colonies. I knew that taking out the last of the sand was going to cause a bit of a spike, so I have been battling algae for the pask week but after a few large water changes everything seems to be stabalizing. I am going to throw some updated pics soon.

I also started dosing vitamin C as well. So far I have not noticed any major changes, but it has only been about 5 days, so I will update as I go along.
opipe73
Very nice, very!
Carlton'sTank
New pictures coming soon I promise. Been very busy lately.
D3monic
do the peach colored ones have a name? I got some in my tank and I cant find a name for them.
Carlton'sTank
Well here is a long awaited updated picture. I have made some obvious changes to the frag system. I finally was able to take out the sand and make it a bare bottom system. I encountered some issues after I removed the sand but now everything is back under control. I also have a ton of colonies that are ready for some serious fragging. I have about 20 different types of zoanthids and I am excited to get some frags going. THANKS FOR LOOKING

Carlton'sTank
I updated a few things and I am going to be doing some fragging this week. Getting ready to move some frags in the first week or two of June so I am expecting to make about 50 frags or so.

It looks like I am going to need to restock my super glue gel.
corallineadam
your zoa tank is amazing! we should trade some zoas in the near future : )
Carlton'sTank
Thanks so much...I am always down for trades!
Carlton'sTank
Some new frags that were just completed. I will probably post them up in a week or so.

jds
Nice looking tank. I have some of his frags and all are doing great. Carlton, how is the water? Are you changing 15-20% weekly? I taking my 29 and dumping it into my 60 so the 29 will become a frag tank. Why no sand?

Thanks... water is doing good. I am very religious on my water changes. I decided to go with the bare-bottom so I can suck up all detrius/debris during my weekly water change and also because I want to increase the flow in the tank. I am not happy with the mj1200 as the return or the koralia nano as my display ph. Ideally I will keep the detrius suspended in the water column so the skimmer can get to it. I also want to increase flow so I can aquaculture sps as well.

corallineadam
i have some cool zoas and palys you might like... trades are fun!
check these guys...

Carlton'sTank
I head up that way sometimes. Next time I am in the area I will contact you and we can make a trade for sure.

I have a major update...I am transferring to a new frag tank..................
Mr. Fosi

Whatever Fosi....I knew I shouldn't have said anything until I had pictures. Last night I painted the stand and the trim on the tank. I also resealed the tank as there was a leak. I am going to get this thing set up in the next two weeks. I will get pictures up.

i just have a question. on my nano cube, how can you frag stuff because i started it two days ago and already have 3 corals in it. dont ask me how they got in there : /. by the way very nice zoas smile.gif

I am a bit confused by your question but you should not have corals in your tank if you just started it a few days ago. That is a good way to throw away money. I frag stuff to help supplement my interest in the hobby, plus it is an excuse to focus on my tanks. Thanks for looking but I suggest reading up before you go crazy.
Carlton'sTank
Got the computer back and new pictures are finally here. I bought the tank a bit beat up. I painted the tank and stand and resealed the tank as well. The tank isn't shallow and long like a traditional frag tank, but I do like having the tank vertical because it allows my clamp on light to hit the whole tank and it allows me to adjust the intensity of light that frags are getting.

geez...what does it take to get a comment. I am going to move this to the member's forum if people don't start contributing haha...
adolfo425
Wow very impressive. Very clean and lots of Zoas. Maybe we can trade sometime. I have a lot of different ones but not big colonies yet.

Once i get my tanks up to par i will snap pictures and update my tank threads and we can see what we can trade.
k_davies35
nice frags! i once had an addiction to zoas, that is until my tank's glass bottom busted out... stupid All Glass brand. im saving up for when i go to college, that way i can get the setup i really want.
Carlton'sTank
Adolfo- I am always down for trades. I try to keep a frag of everything for myself. I usually buy big colonies and just frag from there. I am hoping to collect some rarer zoas/palys in the future.

K_davies35- Zoas are definitely addicting but somewhat of a hassle at times with pests/disease. I don't have much experience with aga brand other than for sump. Both of my tanks are not Oceanic and I am really happy with the quality. The glass is very very thick and those things are pretty dang sturdy.

I am going to get an overflow box for my tank so I can set up a small sump in the stand. I will probably be only able to do a 5 gallon or a 10 gallon tall in the stand depending on tank dimensions. I want to run a clean system with high flow so I can prop sps in the future. I am just seeing how the zoa thing goes then I will start collecting acans and other lps before I make a move for sps. Thanks for looking!
Carlton'sTank
havn't updated since the site crash.

New stuff:

Plumbed a DIY pvc overflow to a 10 gallon sump/fuge

Took all rocks without zoas and placed in sump/fuge

Got a new phoenix 14k bulb, the 20k was too blue and will be used as a backup if needed.

a ton of new frags.

Pictures coming soon
Carlton'sTank
Update!

Got my phoenix bulb in the other day. I also have been doing some fraggin of some colonies I have. Here are some pics of a few varieties of new frags I have. Enjoy.
