So keep that in mind being that you have your Sony, and can't afford to get a macro lens yet. Shoot in RAW, knowing that you can crop in for a faux macro shot sacrificing some resolution until you spring for you macro lens.
Yup, that's pretty much what I've been doing. I'm able to crop way down which is one reason I like the higher mp.

Sure, have you taken that fts picture yet?
I just got out of work and the mh is off, sounds like I'll be trying out some actinic shots.

on topic???????? what???????????????????/

Why do that.
Good point on the 16x20 prints. If I get a killer shot that I absolutely love that I can print a huge print of, it will get printed. I didn't solely get the camera to post pictures online, I love huge prints.
Ohh and I didn't mean to offend anyone earlier today, if I did I'm sorry. I wasn't having a good day earlier or yesterday and I let the posts about me buying the wrong brand camera get to me. Again sorry if I offended anyone.

much better this round - especially on that first shot. what did you do differently?
a couple of suggestions - the last few look like you may be the slightest bit too close to the corals - back the camera up a few inches, and see if the focus is better. try manual focus to get more precise focusing on your subject.
and do whatever you did on the zoas beyond that.

Thank you, I love that shot of the bam bams. Not too sure what I did differently. I did the same thing that I did with previous pictures.
I'll be sure to back the camea out slightly. I did manual on some and automatic on others.

Thanks, I'd like a little more detail on the duster but not too bad with a stock lens. I think it would look sweet blown up to poster size. Hmm, poster prints are on sale this week at work...

its not very practical and just makes things difficult, IMO, a good macro lens would be better anyways, but I just got it for fun pics and magnification

Thank you, I did notice some weren't very sharp but I hadn't posted any pics in a while so I figure I'd throw them on here. All in all it's a pretty nice camera. Im having a little issue with it not letting me turn the flash off in manual mode. I will sometimes use it and sometimes won't, very strange.

Thanks, I love the zoas. Unfortunately I lost my mohawks a couple days ago. The seller thinks it was something in my tank because it couldn't possibly be something in his tank. I think if it were my tank I would've lost other zoas. It was wierd, they were fine but closed one day and rotted away the next.

Highly doubt that one. He kinda blew me off and tried blaming me when I told him about it. Whatever, it was only $40 of my hard earned minimum wage. I just know that I won't buy from him again. He was a member of my local forum so no one here has to deal with him.

good pictures and good camera. There are many advantages to Sony, such as cheap lenses. HUH? you can use minolta lenses since Sony baught out the minolta technology to continue in the dslr market. So this means that you can find cheap lenses at a value village, slavation army and what ever other second hand charity store you find. I see lots of 50mm f1.8 here in canada for like 20-30 bucks.
The one downfall of the sony DSLR is that its always noisier at higher iso than other brands. But you can use a program for that like noise ninja.
thanks
bzphotog
EDIT: please confirm that you can use the minolta stuff on sony. I am 90% sure about this.

Mar 6 2009, 09:12 PM
I have heard that minolta lenses will work on it. I can't confirm but I ave heard it in many places. I haven't looked around for any used lenses yet, too busy with school right now to do much. I do have the next week off for spring break so I might look around.

i never understood the pics taken while walking just randomly in the woods..90% of the time it just looks like a big mess because the woods rarely has any really good shots to take in it..other then like macro or something. Its rare to come across those shots you see of like long corridor of trees and stuff like that

To each their own. I've been near the woods my entire life and there is just something that I like about them. I was out there for 2 hours and went 2+ miles and only took 50 pictures. I'm not just snapping pics randomly, I like to find something unique going on, like the first pic up there with tramp and thief carved into a tree a long time ago. I can understand your feelings if there isn't anything interesting in the picture.

I like #1 of that group.
Gotta agree with 05x though - shots of sticks going all over the place don't do much for me. Too much going on to have a good subject. Not talking about your shots specifically, but the subject in general. Needs something unique, some strong foreground interest to draw attention away from the chaos of the branches in the rest of the photo. You got it in the first photo.

True true. I gotta work with what I got though. We don't all have cool abandoned asylums to shoot.

I mainly wanted to test the camera outside and it hit about 70 degrees out today so...
I did learn that even if you think you wont use a tripod you should still bring one, lol. I'm still editing a few other ones so we'll see what I get.

I like #1 the best out of that set. The perspective could be a little more unique, but overall I like it and the effect the B&W has.
I still don't know about the others. Any picture only has so much potential to be good through manipulation or post processing; IMO they just weren't your best to start with.

I wasn't about to crawl on the ground that day, lol. The ground was still soaking wet since we haven't had enough hot days to dry out from winter yet. It was pretty muddy out there.
