A quick run down of the specs on this.I started with a 14 gal biocube in dec of 08 and got hooked on the hobby.I modded and stocked my cube very heavy with lps some soft corals a crocea and rbta under a 70mh sunpod with great results.I then needed more space for my rbta as i was getting little scared that it would soon be able to take out anything in tank with little more growth. So then came the 30 breeder build.

40 gal breeder
Blackoceanicstand
tek 6 bulb t5 setup
vortech mp20
1 current subcurrent filter running filter floss and little chemi pure
40 ish lbs live rock
80 lbs or so live sand.
All snail cuc
2 false percs one black and one reg
yellow watchman
christmas wrasse
yellow wrasse
bi color blenny
lots of lps and a few soft corals and sps

I plan to try and run this tank as basic as i can.No sump, big filters etc.I wanna see if i can keep a stable simple setup like this.I plan to add a clam to this tank in few months when im sure its nice and stable.I gave away my crocea out of my cube to a local just cause didnt wanna chance doing any harm to it in the transfer process.

Wish me luck

Thanks. i really like the size alot.I wanted a tank i could work in and feed lps with ease. This does the job and i wouldnt even have to worry about rolling up my sleeve when reaching in biggrin.gif

Omg I have that stand!

I like the stand but really hate black wood as i think it looks cheap and tacky.I think i will build a new stand and stain to match rest of our stuff one day when summer comes around and can work out side to cut wood without making mess all over.

Ill get pics up tomorrow when get light hung up etc.The way im hanging the light is my favorite part :}
Gerber77
Damn that thing would make a sweet frag tank
plainrt
lol yes im sure they do.36x18x13.plenty of space to work with.
05XRunner
so your AGA 30B doesnt have a center brace.
my Perfecto 30B which is 30x18x12...smaller has a center brace...wonder why
plainrt
Yeah im not sure.......I hope holds up.I know a local that his 30 breeder just cracked out of no where.I dont think most of the 40 breeders have them either.
05XRunner
i wish i didnt have it..but oh well..doesnt make any difference since I have T5's not a MH
plainrt
yeah i didnt want tank with it.
05XRunner
I dont think it does crap anyway...mine is flexable and feels like it has zero tension on it
plainrt
yeah i can see on a big tall tank but not really on a 30 gal.
PSYS
*nod*

30Breeders are really sweet... I love the dimensions of that tank. smile.gif

Good luck!
plainrt
well i got my current light today and just dont like some things.Im gonna use the good old fish need it 150 pendant now.On another note i got my rena smart heater today and like the look of it alot.It blends in well next to the subcurrent filter well like i wanted
plainrt
well after issues with the tank of a current light i decided im not gonna use it.I had a new fishneed it pendant that im gonna give a shot.I got all filled up today with water and new sand now just waiting on temps to steady to put new rock in.I also found a rena smart heater today at local store.I was gonna order one oneline as i like the look and features of it.Hope it can hold up.

plainrt
I thought i would post pics of the rock in the tank.I will be putting my rock from my cube into the other side leaving a valley in middle. This will be around 35 lbs lr then which is all i want to use as i want some sandbed in this tank which i missed not having in the cube.I want to stock alot of lps in sandbed.

agileTuan
i like it the way it is smile.gif
plainrt
lol can see the old tank in background ......gonna be sad to see it come down.It has been good to me.
agileTuan
build up the island on the left and leave the right empty. smile.gif
plainrt
but i have all the rock out of my cube posted above and not sure how would do with that rock......Ill see though
plainrt
so im thinking about getting rid of the fishneedit 150 pendant.Im not sure im happy with it and i found a great deal on a 36inch current sundial 4x39 t5 setup.I like the shimmer of halide but the evap on this tank sucks with the current subcurrent filter. It always has to be just perfect to work proper.Im not sure about this tank now as im already starting to regret setting this up to replace the simple as can be cube lol.

so all in all do you think i would be better off picking up the sundial t5s and dumping off the fishneed it setup?Any thoughts would be great

thanks

You may have read my comments on this elsewhere and if so, I apologize in advance for being repetitive.

I recently switched from a 150w MH w/Phoenix 14k bulb, to a 4x24w T5HO fixture.
I missed the shimmer the first day, and after that I didn't even notice it.
Last week I put the old MH over the tank for a photo shoot experiment, and was really struck by how much nicer the T5HO brought out the colors in my corals, esp reds, oranges, pinks, and yellows.
I've said it in other places, I love my T5HO and never plan on going back.
That's me though.

Why don't you tell us what it is that's bugging you about the Fishneedit MH, as well as the Current MH/PC combo fixture before it so we can do a better job of advising you whether a Sundial fixture would be a good move for you.

How much for the FNI light? happy.gif
Pickle010
I think you'd be better off in THIS tank with the T5 system.

Your MH doesn't look like it lights up the tank very well. It may be the pic but the part you are leaving empty - just below the light seems to be the brightest and the far side of the rock actually looks dark.

The tank is relatively shallow and the T5's would have no problem illuminating all the way to the bottom and probably give you better coverage from end zone to end zone.

T5's run cooler and give you more color control. I had MH on my BC29 - I think the light you have would be perfect for your AP or a similar tank, but when I went to my 40 BDR - I went with a T5 fixture and do not regret it all. I debated long and hard about dual 150's or the T5's and after doing my own research - back in the day before Weetie's T5 info thread - I decided to give the T5's a shot. To be honest I doubt that I'll ever go back to MH unless I wind up with a system that is much deaper.

If you stick with your fixture - I would say get one more so you can light the tank better.

Ok i dont like the reflector in the fish need it.They say working on a replacemnet for the 150 and 70 versions.I modded it a bit but still have spots i think from the reflector. The current mh/pc.... i sold cause I didnt feel safe hanging it the way i hung the fishneedit. The current one was 15lbs.dont sound like alot till have hanging over tank.I like how the pendant looks over tank but just not sure about it right now.

If sell i would ask 100 + shipping for people i like with 3 bulbs.the stock 14k fni,9+ old phoenix 14k and a 5-6 month old aquaconnect performance 14k.

Matty1124
i think your better off going with t5s or 2mh lamps.. its going to be tough to light a 3 foot long tank unless you raise that mh up some more... those fishneedit mh fixtures can be paired with the t5 lights, you could do the mh in the middle and then have 2 of the two bulb fixtures attached to it front and back to cover the length of the tank... that would look pretty bad ass
plainrt
I was thinking about getting two of them but not sure how would look with just one pendant in center.and again i would have look into weight of them

I'm with matty, that would look sweet! cool.gif
plainrt
K i look at it like i need moon lights anyways and for ones i would want would be about 60 bucks so for a bit more can get moonlights with t5s built in...........

if i go this route and it stinks you guys are gonna hear about it lol
ChicagoReefOne
If this helps, this is a 36x12x16 tank with the coralife 36" mh/pc combo (280W totall). . . I think I'm good for light. ..

plainrt
well they are oos on the 3ft 2 bulbs........ :{
plainrt
FROM FISHNEEDIT.................When asked about reflector today and t5s?

Hi Jason
We are sorry
We knew this problem and we are trying to fix it. I think we will got the new reflector in June. Then we will send you the replacement. And the 3ft/2 bulb fixture will back in June
The weight of the 3ft/2 bulb fixture is 3.5 lbs . It is it be safe to hang two t5 lights on one pendant. Thank you
Fishneedit
05XRunner
i get the T5..that MH just doesnt cover enough it seems and looks like the edges are really dark.
T5HO for the win anyway
plainrt
k i think gonna do a t5 light of some sort.
plainrt
K i cut my eggcrate top.I broke my glass one and thought i would give a try.I think only way will use this top is if go with t5s. i may get another glass one.I really just wanted to see how much light got blocked with this.I also got fans today to try and keep temps just a bit lower.

Mischeif Nite
I'd go open top.....unless you're stocking jumpers
plainrt
i love the look of it open but my yellow watchman likes to try and jump sometimes. And i think i wanna get another jumper or 2.Right now with the halide and my new fans the temps hold right at 78 all day.The little fan really helped out i think.Anyways i found a tek 4 bulb t5 setup on here that im now gonna give a shot so i will be trying another glass top.I hope the tek fixture works out lol.

So do you think should hang the tek fixture like i have the pendant now or use the legs that are coming with?

plainrt
Added my first livestock.................. scarry01.gif

FOUND ME SOME DAMN FLATWORMS TODAY..........Tank is just about done with cycle and today i got home from work to find some yellow or orange with pink flatworms.I never had these before so bit mad.Whats best way to nuke these guys lol ?
Egkid
Flatworm exit or a sixline wrasse
plainrt
gonna find some fw exit.On a + note atleast i dont have anything stocked yet besides a little cuc.Theres pretty many of them. Not sure where picked up the things.
EnjoiFish
Are there a lot of them? I had a flatworm out break a few months ago and the problem just kind of took care of itself. But my tank is too small to dose with that stuff and I hate six lines, so I didn't have much choice in the matter. You're probably better off dosing. Good luck with that!
plainrt
there a decent amount.Ill try get most out then dose fw exit i guess.I dont really want a 6 line......
EnjoiFish
Or you could break out the turkey baster but you may go crazy in the process of sucking them all out of there.
plainrt
thanks for idea.Ill use the little thing from test kit....... :}
plainrt
Ok i used the little dropper thing and got about 20-30 of them out.Thats all i saw for now.Ill just keep doing this i guess till see no more.Maybe ill still dose to be safe
JustReef
I saw your black egg create top. Have you thought about making a mesh top out of pond netting? I just did it to my 40BR and you can hardly notice it.
plainrt

you got a pic?I dont like how much light the eggcrate blocks....
plainrt
New pic of the tek light.Im thinking i may hang it way had the pendant but not sure....What you think ?hang or use the legs?

the bulbs are all Giesemann lamps. The combination is as follows 2 x Aqaublue Plus, 1 x Midday 6000K & 1 x Pure Actinic.I think im gonna remove the pure actinic and maybe one aquablue plus and put in 1 or 2 ati blue+s.

plainrt
started taking down the tank today as it became a flat worm heaven after just over 3 weeks.Im not sure what im gonna do now.Restart after kill all the pos flatworms with some fresh water or just give up on it..........Will see i guess.
zestay
dont give up man. ... but if you do can you ship me your tank? kidding.

i didnt read your whole thread but did you try interceptor to kill your flat worms?
