Ok all I decided to do a 25 g frag tank since tank is just sitting around and not being used and I have tons to frag. Or should I just set it up as a nano??
HEEEEELLLLLPPPPPP
Tank measurements
25 gallon 24" x 12" x 20"
3/4" Bulk Heads Thread and Thread
I need ideas. I drilled tank with diamond bit for two returns and will use my overflow I had for sale since noone seems interested. I would like to use a squid to change which side returns is pumped out of. HINT NINT I NEED ONE!!! What size sump do you suggest, paint or no paint egg grate and why? Bare bottom or not? And light suggestions. I have to frag my tank got to much growing out of control so this was the factor to set this tank up. What would you suggest for return? Overflow is rated for 600 gallons. I think that is all for now. Pics to come soon I just drilled tank

I dont think I would would worry about a squid, keep it as simple as possible. A frag tank dosent have to be pretty it just has to work. I am using an old acrylic tank I had laying around, after a holiday accident with a dog and my completed but unfilled 20H. I dont like the thread/thread bulkheads as they always seem to leak on me I like the slip/thread ones, so I can glue the plumbing into the bulkhead. I would use a 10 gallon tank and build the sump to keep cost down and to get exactly what you want. You could paint the egg crate if you want to but it really has no benefit to the coral. As for bare bottom or sand its up to you, just remember that the sand buffers the PH. I am going bare bottom but there will be media bags filled with sand in the system. And Lighting go with what you can afford and it depends on what you are growing, I recently got a T5 24 inch fixture for 100 dollars, I did a few diy projects to it to make it work the way I wanted but hey I am not going for pretty I am going with what works for me. You can follow my build thread

Thanks and I will be following yours for sure. I used threaded since I had threaded laying around. I have had no problems with them though. So no Squid just split the return. ?? I will do that less things to go wrong hehe

I use the kiss method alot with tanks when I can. kiss = Keep It Simple Stupid. I wouldnt worry about the squid they are more for displays to get the wave action going in the tank. I will be running a quiet one pump rated for 100gph so even split through 4 bulkheads im still lookin at around 700 gph flowing through the tank.

. But once it's up and running, if you want to trde some stuff i can help ya set up the tank with corals (i have massive colonies of kenya and colt coral now that must be fragged and some nice pink/purple palys that are awesome under halides.

Pics of transfer from smaller tank to new frag tank. I transfered a few frags from old setup to ne wtank the rest went back in display tank until tank cycles. I used all the sand, water and cheato from previous tank for this one. Had to add 15 gallons or so new water to make up difference. NOW CYCLE DANG IT I have tons to add to it hehe. Only one light on timer not switch others on yet

Nice job there. I hope one day in the (not so far) future I can build something as good as that. Always like to see coral propagation in the hobby.
Atlantis Reef
Jan 17 2009, 09:10 PM
We all need to propagate!!! Corals are dieing and not replacing fast enough in the ocean! Thanks for the comment
