Christosclown, you have some really nice Clowns, i really like the almost white-masked/black clowns pair from the begining of this topic. Which one are these? And i would be all over some kind of guide/howto post if you have time for it!

Since the cquest onyx strain has been around for ten years or so don't you worry about serious effects from inbreeding especially since these fish are straight from cquest? Good chance right?
nebthet
Oct 22 2009, 06:40 PM
Well, that is why reputible places like C-Quest usually change up the breeding partners of their clowns with other strains of Onyx, either wild caught, or bred by someone else to expand the genetic pool of their fish so that deformities are less likely to happen.

why does it seem like every time you post in this thread, or others by the same author, that your trying to imply something negative about his fish or say things in a suggestive manner that could be construed as negative?

Thank you nebthet, Betito, Johnathan much appreciated. I have been waiting for them to spawn and they finally did lol. You give them a steady light cycle and good food and you get results. Im sure i will get a large percentage that will turn black very soon like right after meta. I got the female from colby a couple months ago and im sure hes gonna hate me now lol jk Colby love ya man lol. Anyway i will keep posting the progress but by far my favorite pair. Even if there not crazy helmet heads or allot of white ill say it again Onyx Clowns are my favorite. And i suspect a 9 to 12 day cycle when they get in the routine. Im pulling my hair out i got 9 pairs spwanign right now from platinums to wyoming to you name it lol, and the best part is i dont know where to start. Hey johnathan you want some eggs lol

I just can't wait to see some baby pictures of these guys!!
Oh.. ps forgot to tell you.. my babies are now free in my 55g tank with my other 2 clowns. No aggression between them what so ever. The Babies have paired up and stay in the back left corner, and the other onyx and picasso pair I have stick to the front right corner, but will go check on the babies from time to time.
They will even group together for feedings of cyclopeeze and each will wait their turn to the stopper.
Also, the larger baby Omen has started to get the "5 o'clock shadow" heralding the start of the black coloration so yippee.

Im trying i promise, lol. It has been a complete roller coaster. You one day have thousands of clownfish and one day you have none lol it sucks. I have had serious problems with with larvae lately, from a bacterial virus/infection to tearing down whole systems. It happens in this hobby in fact it has t happen for you to learn from it. I have completley tore down the grow out which was my black tubs and now i am bulding an awesome acrylic set up for the babies. I went out on a limb and of course got two 8 foot runs custim built with refugiums and sand bed fluidized filters uv;s you name it. I got rid of my old tanks and every piece of equipment tha had to do with raising larvae so i could make sure anything harmful was gone. Now i am just beginning to hatch nests that are being succesful. I kept losing the babies right before metamorphasis. Come to find out that i was using oceanic salt that I highly say stay away from because it has ammonia. So you think your doing a water change but your really making it worse. It took me two monts and thousands of dollars later to figure this out lol. Oh well I guess. They are like my kids so it treat them with great care lol. Anyway im back. And i will be hopefully keepingmy fingers crossed that everything works out this time around. I will never give upI will one of the few like Doni, And Booyah and Rod And hyperboy, and of course colby that will have crazy unique and beautiful clowns. Patience Patience Patience is what someone once told me when I wanted to breed. Damn you need allotof it . Thank you for sticking around ill keep ya posted I have a new born due in feb so i will be busy with two rug rats running around lol see ya

Its a boy actually really excited we wanted a girl but a healthy boy will be a blessing maybe hell bring me luck lol. Im sure I will, I hope i will anyway come to find out after hours and hours of trying new things imhaving serious ph spikes which is causing allot of deaths to larvae. This to me seems like it has been the problem all along. Hope it is we will soon find out

Im working on it lol. I have had two large spawns yet i did not raise their fry. Undortunatley i have had so many eggs from my snowflaks and picassos that i wanted the onyx to get comfortable with a 9 to ten day routine in their spawning cycle. I will pull eggs from thm in th next coming weeks so ill keep ya posted

well i got two spawns yesterday. I have slacked off on some feedigns due to busy work schedual but they laid about 300 eggs a piece. I notice they have eaten a bunch of them and i think its due to diet. Im gonna try to save the rest of them but the good thing is they are spawning every ten days. Time to fatten them up for next time. Its hard keeping up with 16 pairs and 8 spawning pairs lol, sometimes i just let eggs go sometimes i dont. But they are doing better. I will start raising their babies again i think they have had a good break. Momma was tired lol see ya guys

I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed reading this thread and you have some awesome Onyx clowns, Erik.
I was originally going to get a pair of Ocellaris for my JBJ 28g, but now I may have to get a pair of Onyx from you in the future. Also, I live in Dunedin...so I could easily just meet up with you.

well im hatching the spawn out tomorrow. So i am looking at about 4 to 5 months of grow time for them to be sellable. I cant wait to see these offspring. I have selectively bred two pairs to hopefully get extremely black clownfish. So im definetly going to keep everyone up to date thanks

Well the hatch went great about 300 or so are doing great its day three right now so considering the fact that i lose about 5 percent i will be raising all her batches from now on since her nests are not getting eaten by the male and the grow out is on its way

I just wonder what your motives are for using two different names on nano-reef. And you're right it has nothing to do about this thread but I also think the only reason you put that is because you were called out on it!!!!!!!lol

Thank you scott, and lockingit would be unfair due to childish instigations. Anyway Mew i have ten gallon tanks as my larval tanks. On hatch night i transfer the pots with the eggs and label the tank with the parent number and the date. Each one of my breeders has a number according to their tank so its easy to keep up. Right now i have 9 pairs out of 14 spawning so im keeping up. Its a bit difficult but i have a system down that keeps me in line. The onyx babies that just hatched are 4 days old and doing great and shes on schedual laying tomorrow night. I cannot wait to see how black their offspring get.
