OMG how cute!! l love clowns...
I didn't realize Rod was not selling Onyx anymore. I have 2 baby Onyx clowns from him. What happened?
When my 8 gallon BioCube cracked after my move I had to put them in the RSM with my big Ocellaris. That was the end of November and so far all three of them hang together. I'm ready to seperate them if they start to beat up on one but so far they are a big happy family. Knock on wood!

Nice to know there is another source out there. They are really awesome fish. But mine like to nip my hand/arm when it's in the tank. My ocellaris is as nice as can be but the Onyx can be little sh*ts! But I love them anyway.
It's amazing how the eggs are bright orange at first then turn a darker red. Very cool.

christosclowns
Jan 19 2009, 05:30 PM
Nope not at all I fed them out of my hands WHEN THEY WERE BABIES. I have never seen her even attempt to attack me or the male for that matter. They actually just turn around and wack sand at my hand ferociusly lol. My other pairs are like piranahas I wear gloves when i go into their tanks lol

Erik, incredible fish... I had a mated pair a couple years ago... long story. anyways, I think i noticed you live in tampa, or around that area. I'm actually in Orlando. I'm in the midst of starting up a tank and hopefully by the time i am done this current batch will be up to go out. Would it be possible to pick them up? I may be interested in more than a pair. LMK if this would be possible thanx. Would love to see the set up.

Sorry scott yeah right around two months give or take a week. I want pictures lol how are they doing they should be eating like pigs the more you feed them the more they grow. And as far as what I feed the larvae they eat live rotifers up to about day nine and at day 4 i start introducing very fine coral food powder. Its called coral frenzy and i also do crushed flake and crushed otihime b2. I have never fed my clowns live brine at all. The book says to do it but i have done without it and went against what was said. lol oh well they do fine and healthy. I do feed decapsulated artemia or baby brine though
Scott Riemer
Jan 22 2009, 12:23 AM
Erik, I've been feeding them daphnia and cyclopeeze and some fine crushed flake. The bigger one is probably big enough for mysis but I don't think I want to try it just yet.

Not much different than when I got them. I'll try to get a picture when I get home. It's gonna be hard, they love darting in and out of my Hammer coral. Food will bring them out though.

out of curiosity, how many out of what you raise do you have to cull in order to get rid of any deformed fish? I've seen a lot of TR clowns make it through to the stores with messed up lips and gill operculums and just wondered.
Nice set up and pics. Once you set up your sponsorship store/site you should add links for info on how to do what you're doing. It can only help the wild fish we dont catch and keep.

he feeds them rotifiers

Welk generally i cull lets say I have 100 clowns about a tenth to a qaurter need to be culled. Sometimes it is less. I must say though that allot of people have said it is just genetic. I find that when they are fed gut loaded rotifer and water qaulity is great that there is only like 3 or 4 out of a hundred. Maybe its just a coincidence i dont know. And shipping to texas is around 36 dollars so ud be looking at like 100 shipped

well here is the updates. I have about 40 in growout and i lost the last batch on day 8 of metamorphasis. Im very upset there was an amonia spike in the ten gallon rearing tank i dripped water to fast and to much and it stirred everything to fast. But the good news is 400 hatched last night so lets see if I can fix the problem. God I hate sponge filters lol
