Today my fish store had a catalina goby, but it was completely covered in ich, so I decided against it. I think it would probably recover, but I don't wanna drop 20 bucks on a fish that could die, or that jim might eat (it was pretty big though, I dount he'd try it). I was thinking of downgrading to a pico in the future, though, and I'd want a catalina. I also felt compelled to save it, but if I buy it they'll probably just replace it with another one. I dunno. opinions? should I leave it or get it?

True, but you will have a lumpsucker, and that makes all the difference. And you'll be getting some berries soon enough.
I hope I find one haha. Yea thanks in advance for that, there isn't a rush though I want to keep my tank stable for a while first, even though it is.

I would pass, just because I would be afraid of is bringing some disease into your tank.

Yeah, I definitely don't need ich, and I wouldn't want to introduce it to the coldwater world.

Don't you live in San Diego? You can get all the stuff you want from the ocean (all the legal stuff). The next three months will have lots of really low tides during daylight hours (less than -0.5 is sufficient). Get wet, and get your own stuff!

well, you at least get all the big rocks that are impossible to ship. My sister goes to Whitman in Walla Walla, we go visit her every so often, so my parents figured you could maybe drive down and meet us on 84 (I think it's about an hour from where you are?) sometime.

I may send you a strawberry shell, but my mom hates it when I ship stuff, so you may have to ask jacob nicely, I'll make sure you get something either way.

Well, it'll be a while. Sometime late spring, probably.
In other news, tidepooling was a success. I got some fishy friends for Jim. One is a prickleback of (I think) the same type, the other is a scalyhead sculpin, pictured here.

lol, that's because it is. The term "bullhead" is essentially a really general colloquial word applied to any sculpin-like fish.

There is actually a specific fish called a bullhead, but I think they might be freshwater or something like that.
I haven't seen him eat, but I haven't fed him yet. That just occurred to me... I just probably get on that. ugh, I've been neglecting my tanks with school: AP english term project is due friday, and AP bio and Discrete math both have midterms next week.

fun fun. It's kinda nice that you have it spread out, or maybe not. It's like a prolonged, mildly painful death, as opposed to being hit by a train. Dunno which is better...

Sorry to double post but if its for your coldwater im sure it wouldnt really matter since nothing relies on the light but you will probably have an algae bloom. Unless you want macros i would say it mostly for aesthetics if you wanted yo run your lights.

Try this: me in jeans and sneakers on the beach, trying to not get wet while getting the camera in the water. I was actually bent over and running backwards when I took this picture.
That's not to say that I haven't worn waders while tidepooling though.

Today is a day that will live in infamy... no, the tank is fine, but keep reading.
Night tidepooling is pretty cool, all kinds of creatures that you don't usually see are out and about. Me and my dad have only been once, but we really enjoyed it, and, despite the inherent dangers, we made sure we'd go again. Well, tonight was that night, and though it was not our first night tide pooling adventure, it would surely be the last. It was going so well - we'd caught a few cool little shrimps, the clouds had moved off to reveal a beautiful starry sky, it was almost surreal. My dad was having such a good time that he decided one point of contact was enough for the slippery boulders we were walking over, and reached his foot out to take his next step. It was at this point that gravity decided to teach him a lesson. Fortunately, his face, rather than his skull, hit the rock, and he escaped with a broken cheekbone. Needless to say there will be no more night tide pooling. Today is a sad day.
On the plus side, I got some new shrimp for my tank! Pictures once I get home, assuming they don't hide too much.

Yeah, he's going to get a cat scan today to see how bad it is. He's a surgeon, so he knows exactly what's wrong with himself, which is good I guess. He probably needs surgery, because the bone that shifted is pinching one of his facial nerves, but we won't know exactly what he needs until the cat scan. He looks like he got in a fist fight though... his patients are gonna think he's a badass! (or a thug, we'll see).
