I really like the look of this tank. Specifically the fact that the Chaeto is visible.
Your old tank thread inspired me to start plaining a 5.5g aio. Going to have similar equipment. YAY for pico's.
New tank looks great aswell

Anyone had any luck finding someone who sells these tanks in the U. S. or does Aquatic Kingdom ship them?

Here is the Chinese manufacturer of these tanks:

http://www.boyu.us/They are listed in the 'Mini Aquariums' section of the websites.

It's been a few months and here is the latest updated pics.
I've removed the fish breeder, extended the reef island a bit with the real estate. I put the cheato behind the reef island at the rear of the tank and added a HOB filter which provides the flow current for the tank now.

QUOTE (lakshwadeep @ Jan 12 2010, 11:44 PM)

1. Instant is ocean is fine for all corals except SPS or other things that heavily use calcium/alkalinity. Also, buying salt in larger packages (or buckets) is helpful in saving money on something you will constantly use.
2. Do not use crushed coral. The grains are too big, and they easily get clogged with detritus and other waste. You don't need live sand as even dry sand will become live with live rock, and most bagged "live sand" is like arag-alive (aragonite sand) isn't going to have much life sitting on the shelf for months/years. Live sand isn't dangerous, but is expensive.
3. Don't buy kalkwasser or the buffer (or any additive/supplement for that matter). You should only dose what you're [accurately] testing for and only when dosing is necessary. For a new tank, dosing something like kalkwasser is a very bad recommendation.
You should aim for roughly 1-1.5 lbs of live rock per gallon (using base/dry rock is fine).
Hi im new to all this, iv had running for about 10-12 months a 36g juwel tank with internal filter removed iv been running on a 25g sump containing live sand and live rock, i have about 2kg of live rock in my sump and about 15kg in my main display however im a student and funds for my tank are low at the moment it just has always seemed to be quite empty and after i lost the 6 fish i did have it all seems abit to much.
i am considering chopping the glass partisions out of my sump and down grading my system to a 20g nano reef and running of mainly biological filtration within the tank, would this be something that is going to be worth it or not? just need some feed back really.
cheers Nick

yeah i checked your featured tank thing, it was cool. the best thing about this tank is that its so long lived

of course it looks great too!
what made you go with the damsel instead of a smaller fish like a CG? would you say a smaller fish would be a smarter choice for this size tank?
Sandeep
Jul 5 2010, 04:35 PM
As mentioned in the profile, I really find yellowtail damsels to be the ideal pico fish. Active, spectacularly coloured and they do not disturb any corals or invertebrates. Had a clown goby before, pretty inactive just sitting around most of the time, sitting on the zoas and bothering them, so I prefer the yellowtail damsel.
In terms of bio-load, the tank seems to be handling it just fine and the damsel does not mind being fed only twice a week.

Sandeep,
Im just curious about those hammer. Seems to be really close with the Zoas. Do it disturb the zoas?
Sandeep
Jul 12 2010, 03:18 PM
So far so good and zoas are not being touched and their growth is fine. The purple-tip hammer has short stubby tentacles and he's the nearest to the zoas, no contact yet.
The hammer to really watch out for which can be a challenge is the neon-tip hammer as it has very long flexible tentacles and is a aggressive species compared to the purple-tip. That's why I have the neon tip in the back corner of the tank and make sure he's not touching or near any other coral (it's ok if the neon-tip touches the purple-tip). The neon-tip is also fast growing, so I've already fragged him once over the last 2.5 years. Will frag him again as needed, he's a real beauty and I want to keep him in the tank.

Wow hard to believe that it's been 7 months since my last update when the tank won the Tank of the Month honours. Everything is doing well and the tank is stable. We renovated our basement and the tank now has a new home on it's own shelf (reinforced). Temps in the basement are very stable year round, I've even taken the small heater out of the tank. Yellowtail damsel, Big Red the fire shrimp and the porcelain anemone crab have been living in this tank for a few years now. Moved a couple of rocks on the right side of the tank out and put the micro-elegances on the floor to provide some more open space. You will see 4 micro-elegance frags in the tank now. The original micro elegance was big enough to move to my 50g tank and it's now about the size of a silver dollar. Only new inhabitant is a candy cane coral which you can see in the left back of the tank. I gave up on the Current USA 18" fixture and the whole fiasco behind finding replacement tubes. Using an old Current USA 24" fixture that I had lying around, I'll switch to LED in a year or two once things have stabalized with that technology.

You tank is a true inspiration of beauty, and how nano/pico reefs can long sustain life. I have a 10 gallon nano I've started and I can only hope it will end up looking as good as yours.
I just have a couple questions,
What is your water change schedule?
Do you add any additives to your tank?
