updates, addded some more liverock, got it cheap cus i was workin at the LFS
even got 3 hitchiker anemones, 2 GBTA and one unknown that my clown lives in, some small SPS pieces, most are coloring up, and some mushrooms,

re aquascaped to create an open sand bed, more places for fish to hide looks nicer IMO
pics, a little too blue but oh well

the SPS is just in front of the GBTA

n0rk
That's a really nice looking Sailfin biggrin.gif

yeah so the last thread died as did my tank for a while kinda lost intrest so i just maintained it didnt add much,
until i went fishing with my dad last week, we went to this beach that was really rocky and shallow so i was poking round the pools and i found that after 5m it dropped, to my amazement the drop was covered in corals. normally i wouldnt take any but they where building opposite the shore starting a pier development so i took some SPS and LPS and started to spruce up my tank (:

probs goin back this weekend but i donno if i can find the beach again, there where some amazing fish id like to get like cardinals and the odd goby too, ill try get underwater pics too (:
comment awayyy please

wow, what are your collection laws?

wow, what are your collection laws?

i dont actually know
but i went ahead and took them cus it was a channel and there was a massive development going on (dumping in rocks to make a pier and stuff, building a resort i believe) so i think this reef will be gone in a few months. real pity but the waters already very silty
sad.gif
going back to see if i can find it again tomorrow and get some more frags and stuff
will get pics if i can

So, why not revive your old thread for this tank? Why start another?

whats your secret to keeping the tank looking like that?
Hero
Agreed. I don't know if blue and me mean the same thing but it looks like there are rays of light filtering the water.

its partially that i let some microbubbles through so it catches light, and that my MH is toward the back of the tank so all the light comes down in a triangle, and hits the back wall its more an illusion from light shining on the back wall

OMG IS U DUMBLEDORE wink.gif

anyway back from the beach, gna shower and ill get pics of my new inhabitants
(i found a sunset monti thats the size of my fist biggrin.gif )
East1
SO
pics as promised
the tanks not as blue as in the pics but the AWB makes it look really yellow so i set it to balance to 5000k
anyhow good day of collecting, i saw the MOST AMAZING acro table, it was literally 1m radius, saw two of them one of the frags i got today where from there, i need an underwater camera or somethingg

sunset monti - possibly the worst pic

its like a plum colored porities i think <3

blenny i caught last week apparentlly he likes nipping snails :S

yeah i know pics suckk ill get better ones when i a) clean the acrylic, cool.gif let the sand settle and c) wait for the sun to set (:
i think the monti i got today is a sunset monti its yellowish orange with neon green polyps, well impressed with that.
i think my tanks pretty much set for a while, its kinda a shame all the sps is predominantly brown, but then again i was aiming at a biotiope and this is pretty much what i saw out there on the reef, which is cool, but i still feel like id love pastel color corals.

yeah so update time, i added a carpet nem and a bit more live rock, but sadly one of my mini nems got eaten by the powerhead and its causing my two BIG SPS colonies to STN, i changed the water and added carbon, and tried to frag back as much as i can but its starting at the base too so im gonna try frag out as much as possible, i also havent been to that reef to collect again in a while but im gna wait till i can sort out this problem first
bummer

thanks man! i need to get new pictures. i had a honeycomb grouper in there for a while and it ate my gobie and damsels without me knowing, so i need to get some more fish, and replace my lost blue tang. times tight with exams though but im looking at:
a school of 5 anthias squamipinnis
a clown tang or sohal tang if i can get it small otherwise a blue tang.
a bicolor blenny
a dragon scooter blenny
another clarkii clown and another percula clown
maybe a few chromis
also contemplating a wrasse or two. love the way they swim.
thoughts?

once exams are done im going collecting for corals as well i lost all my acro colonies (had a few more i didnt get pics of) to RTN over christmas </3

ahh change is good however. i managed to rescape so ther is alot more swimming space too
animalmaster6
I love that list!

I love that list!

anything youd change to it?
im bored of having a pic-less thread tongue.gif so here is an imagelist of wht i want
Anthias Squamipinnis. x 5

a six line wrasse. had one before but my grouper ate it. bastard fish

MAYBE a regal angel. thers a few at the LFS will take one if its eating

a clown tang

4 Chromis

a sleeper goby

and a replacement clarkii and percula clown, i have one of each but i want pairs again
thoughts?
Rockfish
a regal angel is NOT a great idea for a tank that size. they are one of the harder fish to keep healthy and need LOTS of room

lol but ther so prettyful hahha
ill do my best to self control myself xD thers one at my LFS thats been there for months i feel sorry for it its like 3inches.
othrewise im thinking powderblue or like, something tongue.gif
Rockfish
the only regal angel you will EVER have any luck with is ones collected from the red sea ONLY.....don't know why but they just seem to fair better than the ones from the indian ocean

as far as tangs go for a 75 with an open setup like that one I've had decent luck with hippos. Powder blues are pretty difficult as well.....i think you should start simple and gain a bit of tang keeping experience befor you go and keep one of those b/c every tang you've suggested can't be kept in a 75

but again they do get a bit big!!

red sea ones are yellow bellied? thats what i had, had to pay extra. lots extra to bring it in.
ive got a sailfin ive had for a year, and i had a hippo for over a year but one day it was just laying there, dead, i have no clue what happened its a real shame, i think the sargassum i put in died and leached something out or it ate it or something, real shame, so im looking to get another thinking perhaps a powderbrown or powderblue, im gna give the clown a miss and maybe also the regal. i might get teh color i want so badly with some wrasses. the setup is more open i rescaped so thers a good almost 5 feet of open space from left to right as well as space all round the rocks.
animalmaster6
Any powder tangs are real cool!

You should definetly get some wrasses!

Greetings East!
I enjoyed reading your post and your tank looks great!

I just arrived to UAE (Dubai) from the US (Seattle) where i had a beautiful 180gallon reef. I want to start up the hobby here asap smile.gif ... was wondering if you can share some of the stores you shop at and if you are able to use the sand from the sea in your tank?
Thank you!

hey! great to see a new reefkeeper here. id suggest Aquarium Concepts ( Garden Centre on sheik zayed road carries some of thier stuff they also have holding facilities ask for Kyle in garden centre to get there tehy can order u stuff. alternatively you can use pets plus oppsite mall of the emirates or petland behind dubai bowling centre, all have mediocre livestock but it helps.

my tank is pretty much taken down now, moving off to uni soon so i sold my livestock and the tank only has my sailfin and clowns, i was debating getting a catshark for a while but i havent tongue.gif its really sad to see it so understocked and empty but its for the best i suppose.
