You guys are missing the bigger picture. More Chinese crap built by non American's who are loosing their jobs because we like to buy the cheap not made in America.

I can't wait for the North American Free Trade Alliance to be dissolved.

I'd be worrying about the lead paint on your cheap Chinese products.

I'll be watching this thread for all the reported tank crashes.

See heres the thing though. I'm sure that Tunze, Koralia, and all these other places have factories in other countries (China, India, where ever) and just have a ridiculous mark-up price because they know that people will pay it. As for lead paint, aren't these all black abs plastic? If so then there's no paint on them.

As it stands right now, it is absolutely ridiculous to go to the store and pay $50 for Koralia (Maybe more maybe less depending on the size), when all it is, is a plastic impeller on a motor. The parts ALONE (minus labor) are less than $10 on that.

I don't think that the 5000 liters is referring to the Liters per Hour, I think he's saying that is the maximum tank size. Might have to email to ask about the LPH/GPH. And it looks like most of the WaveMakers only come in 220v tears01.gif

i think the lighting is more of a supply/demand thing. to make an actinic and other hobbyist level metal halide lamps involves using various rare earth metals and gases that aren't normally used in the lamps made for commercial use. also, production for hobbyist level lamps is no where near as high as for commercial lamps, so production costs are going to be higher, and that cost is passed on to the consumer.

to be honest, I have noticed that GE and Phillips brands are making actinics, daylights, and other aquarium lights, and I can get them at Home Depot occasionally. Some companies are quickly catching on and venturing into the hobby side of lighting. This is a small step I know, but if freddy's idea were to ever work, then more companies like GE and Phillips need to get involved in this.

Can't wait to see your review.

I read some good things when searching about SunSun powerheads. Definitely thinking about picking a few up.
ddr_phish
Awesome, what did you order? I'm really interested in the WaveMakers and Mini-Skimmer. I just might have to bite the bullet and be a guinea pig though tongue.gif

i have that protein skimmer. lots of bubbles but didnt have in tank long enough for a good review. i took out until i get my upgrade going w/ sump.

I've had it running in my 12Gal QT for a few months now. It actually pulls out darker skimmate than the Biocube Skimmer which is substantially more pricy. For $6, it's definitely better than a lot of the air driven ones out there. The skimmer's pretty clean bubble wise with no microbubbles leaking out to the rest of the tank. The only caveat is that the photos don't really show how wide the collection cup is. I got it originally intending it to go into the AP24, but it's entirely too large to even attempt.

I ordered the 2 1300gph ph's
ddr_phish
I noticed on a lot of the Wave Makers it says that they are 20v-220v, does this mean that it will work with the 120 plugs here? I looked at a picture of the plug and it looks the exact same as ours.

That's funny, because I didn't realize China had signed on to NAFTA. Or that China was in North America. wink.gif

Not here yet, should be here today though hopefully.

Any luck? I'd really like to hear a review. I plan to get some loc-lines and maybe a powerhead or two...

I wasn't aware it was an alliance either.

Seriously, though it may be flawed, you have no right to disparage NAFTA if you don't even understand what the goddamn acronym means. Rocket, go and sit at your TV like a good little drone and leave the big picture stuff to the experts, mmk?

I hope I never get on NM's bad side.

Where are the updates?!

My bad guys, got them in yesterday!

alls I can say is WOWOWWW!!!!!!! I'm impressed! They came packaged perfectly first. It only came with 2 powerhead bodies and 2 suction cup plates. No instructions, all you have to do is push the pin in like a koralia 1-4. They have very dispersed flow, definately more like a koralia then a tunze. I say they get their whole 1300 gph. And it only runs at 12 watts per ph!! The suction cups work like a champ! I recommend knowing where your placing it before you put it i and try to take it out. The suction cups work so amazing, it's extremely hard just to get them out of the tank once they are attached. You can move it around easily though once it's on the glass.

I have a koralia 1 and I would say it's only somewhat bigger then that. The main reason it makes it big is because it is a suction cup instead of a magnet. You get the full 360 degree turn though.

I highly recommend these! Both of them worked first try and still are. The only minor setback is it has a quiet hum to it. It's not loud, but if you listen for it, it can get annoying. I can't hear it standing 4 feet away from the tank though.

It was pushing sand, loose corals, and even small frags around my 36" tank! I really love these, a definate way to save some money!!!!

I got the 2 1300gph powerheads. I'm stoked to use them on my 135!!

I woulda took pics, but my camera is dead

Hate to bump up an old thread, but anyone else have any experience with Resun?

Seriously contemplating ordering their wavemaker pump.

http://www.reefshops.com/resun-wave-maker-waver-15000.html

I've tried pretty hard to find bad reviews of their products, but I really haven't. Great deals on chillers from them, as well.

ive just started up a new reef tank, my experience with the hydor k1 is dismal. it starts off quiet but eventually will begin to rattle to the point where i get out of bed at 3am to turn the f&*king thing off. I've ordered one
of those knock off pumps at 1/4 the price i paid for the hydor. can't be any worse.

ive adjusted it till my hands are soggy. louder than the other aqua one powerhead and skimmer and chiller.
and i've had the prop changed which made no difference at all.

I have had Koralia 1's, nano's, and 4's and I have never had any issue with any noise from them....they are all dead silent in my tanks

does anyone else have one ? looks like a cheap alternative to the koralia .

In all intents and purposes, it IS a Koralia. It's OEM'd. Should get almost the exact same thing that the US sold Koralias are made from and of.

I just ordered two of the double headed pumps which I've heard pretty good things about for my 39.
jonrx
I got my pumps the other day. Took 6 days only from China.

Sunsun Dual Power Head

http://www.reefshops.com/sunsun-jvp-201b-j...000litres-.html

Got two of these for my 39G CAD.

The build quality, from what I can tell, is very solid. These aren't the simple OEM'd Tunzes or Koralias, but seemingly 2 OEM'd Tunzes put together.

These move a LOT of water. So much that I might only use one and put the other one in my prop tank once I get it.

Definitely does right around that 1400GPH or so that it states and the magnet quality is top notch.

I'll have some pics up soon here and in my tank thread, but these things are on the verge of overpowering my tank laugh.gif

Have to give the product a huge thumbs up so far.

Only $23 per pump (plus shipping)? This is a freaking bargain. Even if they only last for two years or so, I'm fine with that as Koralias seem to conk out after around that time (at least for me).

Nice, now if only someone would buy one of the Vortec knockoffs and give it a go smile.gif

Different than the ones I have. Also don't have a magnetic base, it looks like. Though I do believe they are Sunsun or Resun or some sun.

Does anyone have the links to the knock off vortechs?

I ordered a pair of SE MH reflectors from the guy's ebay account. I felt a little uneasy about ordering directly through his site. I have a tracking number, and should have these by the end of next week.

I got 2 of these for 175 shipped. http://www.reefshops.com/lumenarc-reflectors-1.html
There is no way that I could pass this up as my halide reflectors are not good at all.

So, people ordering stuff from this guy, are you buying from ebay, or from his site?

Just wanted to comment about the desinger clothes bit. i have experince in apparel design and manufacturing. There is a difference bt cheap fabric/construction and low end like old navy, when u buy from high end boutiques you pay extra for rarity, but the difference between Abercrombie and Target is NON EXISTANT! also.. during Victorias semi Annual Bra sale.... make your wife compare shop at Wall Mart b/c they carry the SAME bras with different labels sewn in!!! they often even have the same designs and patterend fabric. VC bras, unless the hgiher end ones, are just wall mart bras.

I intend to get a knock off too!
mrbigshot
if you look at the main importer of the stuff on ebay (the one who deals with bubble magus skimers) he has the us versions of most of the stuff on there. the wavetimer is 220v so unless you wanna run a 220 line to your tank your sol.

the sunsun vibration pumps i beleve are oem, he even states in the auction "The exclusive Hydor design and technology guarantee a continuous and powerful water flow. High performance, low energy consumption, quick and easy maintenance. " a wee bit to much flow for me, 5000lph or 1321 gph is a little to much for a nano i think. in a bare bottom 20h sps tank it might be interetsing though.
RockinSmall
I ordered mine from the same company off ebay last week. We will see what happens!
RockinSmall
Well, it took several weeks but i finally got mine in and all i can say is.. WOW! much much much better than expected... of course they are not as slim as a vortech.. but i dont have $400, i spent $40 shipped
polyppetey
Just got 2 1300 GPH e-bay resun's. So far so good, they looks to be well made, magnet bases are super strong and so far are blowing up a storm. The corals really seem to like the increased flow.

Only use 12w each vs my 80 watt 1200 GPH closed loop pump.

Less than 30 dollars for the both of them shipped.

The only thing I do not like is thay are a little big compared to the tunze and koralia but not by much.

HA naysayers be damned.
The_Macs
I got the same as ^petey and have to say that these things move A *!)# load of water. It kicked up a storm in my 46 bowfront and scared the daylights out of my fish, so I took them out. Now I'm using it to mix up salt in a bucket and saving it for the 100g I have sitting around for the new house.

The magnetic base is definately stronger than the koralia's and doesn't add too much to the overall size of it. The only problem I have with it is the length of my power cord...its probably only 3-3.5 feet long so for my 2' high tank i can't place it too deep or it won't reach my power strip.

anyone have any experience with any of their other products? lighting/skimmers/etc?
AZDesertRat
I should be getting two of the Sicce Voyager powerheads this afternoon. one of the LFS by me has had one running on a wavemaker for a week or so and they are reporting good things, no noise, no restarting problems and it does not matter if they run forward or reverse due to the impeller design.
I tried Koralias and Seios with my RKL wavemaker function and it was a disaster, hope these work better. I will report back with the results good or bad.
