Got an ugly tank that is marred by nuisance algae? We want to see it! Post your pictures here, and we will choose the ugliest tank to us. The "winner" will receive a custom crew from us, (or a refund on a recently purchased custom crew), and be given step by step instructions on how to get their tank clean. Everybody who participates will be given a 25% discount.
Show us how bad it can get!

Note: By submitting a photo, or a link to a photo, you confirm that you are both the owner of the photo and the tank. By posting the photo, or linking to it you give us the right to use the photo on the site. You have the choice whether to remain anonymous or be credited for the photo. If you wish to be credited for the photo, please place your name on the actual photo itself.

current pictures only please - no shipping.
It ain't the best coryd, but it isn't the worst. On 3reef we already got a guy whose diatoms are so thick they are layered on top of each other making them look fuzzy. It is the most amazing diatom bloom I ever saw.
I have seen your tank though dahlia...it is a shoe in now, post away!

I don't know if it's the ugliest but I sure am overrun with different types of algae and it does look BAD.
From what i can see there is a ton of valonia, bryopsis, green hair, cotton candy hair(?), and some type of pinkish red bubble alage. Help.....

Yes they are AIPTASIA. I keep waiting for one to eat that damsel but no luck yet

If you feed them they just keep growing. With all that so called ugly stuff in there this tank is amazingly stable. I've let it go for 2-months without a water change. I toss in a big chunks of food for the lobster and crab and things just stay the same. It's sort of like a show sump

No coral in it but I just stopped paying attention to the tank. Top offs are about all I do. There's a big Margarita snail living in there, someplace. He comes out every so often.

wow. a lot of good contestants in there. This is going to be a tough contest. I will keep it open for awhile trying to get some more contestants in, (a lot have been posting on the other sites too), and then I will combine them on my site to start the judging.
Green Bubble Algae looks cool in close up pictures, but in person it well, looks like it may have a shot at winning the contest.
By the way the discount code is "ugly", in the comments section give username and maybe even a link to the picture so we can keep you tracked for the prize.

We will be letting people enter for awhile, maybe you will get lucky and it will grow back quickly. With that said the way the tank is now there is no way you will this contest.
I think I will be doing category prizes. But we sponsor a lot of sites, so we can't do that. They aren't all nanos.

Ya,

After looking at some of the pics of others mine is way to clean.

I thought maybe my giant Aiptasia garden might shoe me in, but I can see that red slime and brown algae are really the ugly ones.

I wish you could have seen this one 200 gallon tank I serviced awhile ago. Nice, expensive equipment (Euro-reef, tunze, etc), good lights (400W MH x 2), and a **it ton of hair algae.
The lights were in an enclosed canopy and temperatures routinely got into the mid 90s, lights were on from 7am - 10pm, right beside a fireplace that was always warm. I think I pulled out 2 5 gallon buckets of hair algae alone. Disaster...

Its my 55 gallon with a HOB filter and old light bulbs. I only have 1 powerhead so 80% of my tank is a dead spot. The snails are dying off, Mr. Tang won't touch the stuff, the
lawnmower blenny died (not that he did much anyway), detritus is everywhere, and I HATE hair algae. Oh yeah, the little tank inside the big one is for the little b/w ocellaris clown that gets beat up by my mated pair and the other b/w ocellaris. I keep him separated. I could use some help.

By the way the discount code for the posts is "ugly". When you enter a tank I will eventually move it over to my site for the judging. But if you use the discount to order, make sure during checkout you give me your username, and a link to the photo this way I can match them up for the possibility of a refund if you win the contest.
Those are some pretty bad ones. My favorite is the tank with the dirty glass where algae is actually growing ont he mag float. Priceless, worth an extra point in judging for sure.
