No pics yet. I just moved a couple of weeks ago and haven't yet come across the cord to connect the camera to the computer.
I bought this setup from DCG1286, as he upgraded to the 90g.
So, 45g tank with a 10g sump--soon to be changed to a 20L for the sump, because I have it.
36" Nova Extreme Lights, 2 T5s with actinics.
Continuous Siphon Overflow
Koralia 2
Hagen 70 return
Powerhead 201 (?)
HOB Penguin 330
Red Sea skimmer
I think that's it for equipment.
Filled the tank with saltwater and started running it last Friday, 11/7. David left me some sand and live rock rubble (I think it's considered rubble, but really it's small pieces) in the sump, and some sand in the DT. The next day I was all excited, so I picked up 3 small pieces of LR (7 lbs worth, fairly dense), and ordered 40 lbs of Vanuatu (sp?). Got a hitchhiking blue legged hermit crab on the pieces from Sat, kids have named her Lizzie.
Tues the LR came in, I picked it up and brought it right home, rinsed it and put it in the tank. Beautiful rock. Great colors, interesting shapes, very porous, I already see a couple of feather dusters and other asst things that I believe are live and will grow.
I thought I broke the return pump when I put the rock in, there was a brief burning smell and then the water stopped running from the sump to the DT, and vice versa. I called David in a panic, and he came that night, turned out I didn't break it, there was sand caught in it so all that was needed was a rinse.
I'm hoping to get sand to put in within the next couple of days. I've already got what I think is a diatom bloom starting, and the very beginning of hair algae. Test kits on the way from fostersmith.
The guy from the LFS is telling me I need another 40 lbs of rock. He isn't the owner, but another enthusiast who works there. I know I can fit another 40 lbs, but I don't want to. I would like to get just a few more pieces to build up one side higher for any corals/critters that need to be closer to the light. I think I did a decent job of aquascaping, I've got some neat pass-throughs and caves that I want to keep. My budget is and will continue to be limited, so it will be a loooong time before those rocks are covered over by corals. I'll be buying frags and waiting for them to grow out. I've been told that's-what-they-all-say, but these kids want to eat every day, whether there's something I want for the tank or not.
Stocking plans keep changing as I read and see more
Thanks for reading, and sorry for the novella
