If the algae are starting to turn color\pale you are on your way. One caution, if you can get it out as it dies, siphon, by hand, etc., it will help to prevent the nitrates from being released back into the system. Remember the nitrates are caught up in the algae, they are not actually gone from the tank until you harvest the algae. Think fuge here and the way you remove algae as it grows which removes the nitrates\phosphates. If you just leave it the nastiness goes back into the water. Not a real big deal as the additional heterotrophs you are growing in the tank will help to soak them up and be removed by skimming, but always a good idea to get dead and dying algae out if possible.
Sounds like things are progressing well if you are seeing the changes in the algae.

Haven't seen any further changes, but I didn't up the vodka dose this week yet, either. Maybe today.
Did a 10g water change last night, scraping a good amt of the algae off of the back wall of the tank and sucking it up. This made the skimmer go NUTS, overflowing. I'm tweaking it all day today, trying to find that magic spot.
I'd like to try glueing some of the gsp to the back wall. Should I wait until I've got the gha under control, or doesn't it matter, as long as I glue it on a freshly cleaned area?

the gha my not be the problem as long as, like you say, its been cleaned. but every time I try it this it gets knocked of or something. last time what I had decided on. was going with glue, then pining it in place with a mag float, as back up until it was well attached . worked great until I knocked the gsp off cleaning the glass. but it still took for ever. let as know how it goes.

Hi Mark! Hi Kim! Hope you both had a nice Thanksgiving.
Went up to 1.4 on the vodka dosing today. I held off for a couple of weeks, because my schedule was crazy, and I didn't want to go up that high (seems high to me, anyway) if I couldn't keep a very close eye on things.
The GHA is definitely less than it was, but far from gone. I'm hoping this bump in dosage will make the difference. After an initial response, though, I'm not seeing any difference in polyp extension.
Also, a couple of weeks ago the black clown's eye was swollen and looked like it was going to fall out of his head. Except for looking sad because his mate kept chasing him away, he seemed fine. The coral beauty had a bite missing from her tail. Hmmmm. Both are now fine.

I seem to have forgotten where I live.
Hi everyone!

The 45 is still running, had another crash (user error). The good part, no horrendous algae problems afterwards. Life has just gotten too crazy, and my budget too tight, to take care of it the way it should be taken care of.
So, I'm downsizing, but not downgrading. Arrived in the mail today!!!!! a very, very sweet little AIO acrylic, passed on to me by Joe
It's 15x15x9, and I'm happily dreaming of appropriate tank inhabitants. I'll use rock from my existing tank, new sand, no skimmer.
I will start a new thread within the next couple of days, I'm really, really excited and happy that Weets encouraged (enabled?)

me.

Me too Very Excited for you . How are the flower nems I supposivley made you buy ?

Thanks, Kim!
The flower nem, sadly, did not make it--unless it's hidden in the rock somewhere, which is always a possibility. It just disappeared one night.
I have discovered a shrimp in the tank, no idea how long it's been there, or where it came from.

Oh thats a shame. Hopefully it's just hiding somewhere. What kind of shrimp?

I'm sad to see the 45 come down. But hey that was an awesome deal, wasn't it.

I know, Kim, I'm still hoping to find that nem when I tear this down. No idea what type of shrimp, never gotten a good enough look at it.

I know it's dark red, bigger than a peppermint, smaller than a skunk.
Bitts, I've been extremely fortunate in my reef deals and interactions through the people here on n-r. I'm sad to see the 45 go too.

Luckily, the new pico is making it much easier to accept.

Yes, I'm feeling really good about this. New tank thread is up, I even added it to my sig--with pics!
Got to get the girl to school, I'll be back later.
