Wait a minute ... wait a minute ... I sit down at the computer and what do I see? Attempt No. 2?!?!?!?! Wait ... who is going to hold the turkey baster and who is going to catch the fish with their bare hands? huh.gif

I wonder ........................ laugh.gif

I thought this was self explanatory. I'm #2. I believe that leaves you to be #1--of course, my math skills are a bit weak. laugh.gif

ohmy.gif Whoa, what an ordeal! laugh.gif

Quite a story and such an enjoyable read. tongue.gif

I do hope attempt number two is successful, although I must admit -there is a small part of me that cannot wait to read about failed attempt number two....and plans for #3. blush.gif biggrin.gif

Best of luck folks. fingersx01.gif

Awww, thanks so much. blush.gif smile.gif

I'll be sure to post how attempt #2 plays out, once we're all recovered from last night's attempt, of course. wink.gif

Maybe I should start posting my battles with the aiptasia... tongue.gif

So here I am, trying to be productive. Three loads of laundry in the machines, fishies are fed, went to the grocery store for necessities for the week.

My new phallic leather thingy has more and more polyps extended, and is in fact quite turgid this afternoon.

Cheese cutlet fell over onto one of the green rics the night before last, I woke to find the ric actually trying to eat the cheese cutlet. ohmy.gif Both wounded, both looking like they'll survive.

And yet, here I am, staring into my tank, wishing I could go and buy a new zoa patch. tongue.gif

I have no $, and couldn't go frag shopping today if I did, but I see them in my mind, pink, blue, green, orange, I think they're magically delicious. wink.gif

Blech, there goes the timer, time to go back to the laundry room.

Well, until I hit the lottery, you're my officially unofficial cameraman. biggrin.gif

Wonder how you're going to run the camera and catch the coral beauty at the same time? laugh.gif Oh, Sakura...

OMG, so far as I can tell we've got such a similar life-stock in our tanks....clakii, 6line, etc... and some of the corals too..
ap123
Hi Boris! Thanks for stopping by. biggrin.gif

Hmmm, I remember reading your thread before I had a tank, maybe there was a subliminal influence? tongue.gif

Neither clown is a clarkii, though--just really fat! ohmy.gif laugh.gif

Yea, I just went back and realized that it isn't a clarkii, just looks like it in one of your photos. I also have the blue mushies, the green striped ones but no LPS yet...still reticent to get them since my setup is a bit ghetto right now...

I bet your six line was a really happy one when you put him in the tank...to monitor that pod population... do you have any left? wink.gif I certainly don't...or can't see them.
ap123
I LOVE my LPS! biggrin.gif I find the candy canes endlessly fascinating, and the same is true for the frogspawn and plate.

Who am I kidding, I love them all! wink.gif

The six line was in heaven when he came into this tank, yes. laugh.gif Believe it or not, the pod population wasn't decimated. Decreased, to be sure, but you can still see them if you look. Perfect, this way they're still working as another link in the cuc, enough if I added another fish that see them as a treat, but not so many that they're irritating the corals. cool.gif

well, that's great. I wish I had pods in my tank, but alas...I have yet to see even one and it's been a year and a half since I set up my tank. Though, I don't have a fuge or a sump.

Hmmm, Mark, I like your line of thinking. Right in my budget. tongue.gif Black sand sounds like perfection in a seahorse tank.

I wonder if my boys will notice if I dissemble the Guitar Hero World tour drum set and use that spot...

Clearly you didn't see/don't remember what happened when I tried to DIY with pantyhose and the overflow u-tube. Ugly, very ugly. And wet.

Trying to add a pic. Not working, grrr.

ap123
No new pics, but I did get some new coral additions. An orange digi frag, a yellow something I don't remember frag, and some very pretty yellow centered zoas. biggrin.gif

This stupid aiptasia is driving me CRAZY. Everything I've injected into it (lemon juice, Part B, boiling lemon juice) just seems to make it bigger and stronger. This being the case, I'm reluctant to buy one of the products specifically for it that also may or may not work. So, I bought a peppermint shrimp. Also bought a little emerald crab for some bubble algae hidden in my poci colony. rolleyes.gif

The orange clown was NOT happy with the peppermint addition, and immediately set out to have herself a $5 snack. The pep was able to evade her for about 30 hours. Sadly, I woke yesterday morning to find the pep crunchy on the floor in front of the tank. sad.gif If I listen closely, I can hear the aiptasia snickering, and the clown giving out a self satisfied HRUMPH. mad.gif

Last night my candy cane (which has been solidly in place for months) fell--or was pushed--off its perch, right onto one of the rics. scarry01.gif The candy cane is now sliming like mad, and I'm chewing my cuticles; I love that thing.

*Question, I have a red monti frag that was given to me with most of the flesh brown/gone. It started coloring up and growing right away. Two days ago I noticed a little hole appear where the flesh had not colored up/regrown. The hole has grown, but other than that the frag still seems fine. None of the new growth has died, polyps still extend, etc. Sound familiar to anyone? Anything I should watch for? unsure.gif

Thanks for reading. smile.gif

~Anne
Needreefunds
o boy Anne, sowwy about the troubles. But congrats on the new additions.

Aips can be a real PITA. Peppermints did the job for me several times. But this last time they also helped themselves to my prized Cespitularia - Blue Xenia once the Aiptasia were gone. mad.gif

Not sure on the monti. Although I have had a similar situation recently. The hole has not really gotten any bigger, yet the monti continues to grow outward. Hopefully someone else will chime in here as I to would be interested to hear.

Good luck Anne, I hope everything pulls through for you.

smile.gif

ap123
Thanks Richie. smile.gif

I know I can try supergluing the mouth of the aip, but it's growing from my pipe organ, and I'd have to pull the whole piece out of the tank to do that. I've had such great growth with the pipe I don't want to risk hurting it, kwim?

Ouch on the blue xenia! I think I'd find a skewer with the pep's name on it. tongue.gif

Interesting that you've seen something similar with your monti, and very encouraging to hear you're still experiencing continued growth. biggrin.gif
JBM
take some frag putty & smother the aptasia with it.

worked for me many a time
ap123
Thanks Mark!

I haven't heard of that one, I'm going to try it. biggrin.gif

omgomgomg.gif

I'm going to lose my candy cane. tears01.gif The larger of the two heads has been looking worse. Once it stopped sliming, I could see some skeleton. The &^%$&*( coral beauty just took a BITE out of it. rant01.gif

This was one of my first frags.
JBM
frag & seperate them

place the 'worse' head on your frag rack to heal
ap123
I was wondering about that, Mark. But I don't know how to frag, or have any tools to frag with.

Mierda! mad.gif
JBM

could probably find most of those in a cvs or a beauty shop
ap123
I didn't do anything to/for the candy cane yesterday. I need to watch and think before taking any action; overall I think that trait is serving me well in this hobby. I'm sure there will be times when it bites me, though. ohmy.gif

Anyway, the coral beauty ate a little more than half of the fleshy crown from that one head. I guess that was the most damaged part, because then she stopped, and it doesn't look any worse this morning than yesterday evening. The other head is fine, it isn't sliming, and the flesh that has grown down the stalk still looks completely fine.

The emerald crab found the bubble algae and has been eating it. cool.gif
Needreefunds
Good to read this Anne.

happydance.gif
ap123
Thanks Richie. I fed each head a pellet before and they both ate! biggrin.gif It took the damaged head longer than usual, but that has to be a good sign--not to mention, being a mom, I'm convinced food will help the healing process. wink.gif

~Anne
JBM
Funny, I don't feed my corals at all. I should try it out tho
ap123
Really? That's the first thing I do with new corals, check out who will eat what. tongue.gif

Do you ever give phyto or anything?
JBM
nope.

the hardest thing i have to care for is my candy canes. everything else is softies. i figured my 12.5% (5 gallons) weekly water changes (sometime bi-weekly) is sufficient. That & 300+ watts of light should do it
ap123
Nothing really new, but I figured I'd update the progress. I know, I know, I need to update pics. blush.gif

All of the minor mishaps have corrected themselves. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif The candy cane has recovered completely, the flesh regrew, no more exposed skeleton. cool.gif

The hole in the monti cap got bigger and bigger. The interesting part is that only the old dead flesh/rock disappeared, while new growth has continued to surround the hole. I figure this means it's ok, and it actually looks kind of cool.

The coral beauty took a couple of bites out of the yellow _____ frag (looks like a cross btw a monti cap and a cup coral) I got, new flesh has already regrown over the exposed part. smile.gif

My rainbow (?) monti frag continues to grow and encrust the frag plug, looking very cool.

The emerald crab stopped eating the bubble algae before the job was done. mad.gif Still, he's cool to watch, and so far is a hard working addition to the clean up crew. smile.gif

The clowns decided they didn't like the orange digi anywhere near their spot, and rammed it repeatedly until they knocked it down, and covered it in sand. ohmy.gif Needless to say, that was not good for the frag, and polyps retracted and it bleached. It is recovering now, and I'm trying to figure out a safe spot to putty it down.

Fish are all fat and happy. I'm waiting for my schedule to mesh with a friend's to try a capture of the coral beauty, round 2. This time I won't give up, because I know there's no stopping her occasional nipping. dry.gif

Th th th that's all, folks! biggrin.gif

~Anne
