My plan is to add the chemipure and do a water change this morning, and then another water change tonight.

The camera is a Kodak easyshare CX6330. Maybe for Christmas I can get a new cam--I've been a very good girl.

OK, first water change done, added 1 bag of chemipure elite. Only got one container of the chem elite, it was $27.00 in my LFS. The water is looking clearer, hydnophora is back to normal. Nothing else was visibly effected, corals, fish, shrimp, clam are all fine.

Tonight hubby will bring home more supplies from a less expensive store in NJ. I'll do another water change. new filter sock, and add another bag of chemipure (but not elite).

It's very weird, cause everything looks fine now. I'm hoping it was a brief fluke, and the chemipure and extra water changes keep all in check.

I dunno.

After water changes and two new bags of chemipure, my nitrates are still around 20, maybe a bit less.

All corals, fish, and inverts look great; no sign of illness or stress. No explosion of any nasty algaes, no recurrence of the cloud (bacterial bloom?) from the other day.

My thoughts. Either something meaty that I didn't know was in there died and wasn't taken care of by the cuc quickly enough, or trying to plant the macro algae kicked up too much yuck from the sandbed. Ironically, I even joked with DHaut about the possibility--obviously not thinking it would really happen.

Is this the perfect opportunity to add something that might help with keeping the sandbed clean, like a small star or goby? Or is that a recipe for disaster?

what is your ph?

do you dose anything? calcium, 2 part, etc? what are those levels?

a small diamond back goby will clean your sand, but they tend to make huge piles & it doesnt look pretty....a sand sifting star might be an option, but i highly doubt a nano is a suitable place for one even if you have a dsb.

more nassarius snails would help

I haven't been dosing anything (was dosing Brightwell 2 part solution once a week) since things went out of whack a couple of months ago.

I wasn't thinking sandsifting star, I don't think my dt is big enough to support it. More along the lines of a brittle. I just got more nass snails last week.

I say no to a sandsifting star get more nassarius. A goby would be ok but they do make a mess. They like to cover corlas with sand.

Thanks for the input, Wimby. I'm guessing no to a goby, then--it already annoys me when the clowns kick up a sandstorm if someone enters "their" area.

Either way, I like to obsess about what to do for months before purchasing anything.

Keep asking around about it, but I'd say stick with some Nassarius snails for now.

Blech. Stressed out due to sick kids...being of the girl persuasion, I decided to indulge in a little retail therapy. Being a geek, I went to the LFS for aforementioned indulgence.

Got two emerald crabs, and a frag of birdsnest. Incredibly overpriced, but sooooo pretty it begged to come home with me.

My only question, why do these LFSs all think I'm a sucker? There was an open brain (trachy, maybe?) that had the potential to be beautiful. Problem was half was bleaching and the other half was bleached. If they would have offered a reasonable price I would have taken the chance and brought it home. But no. Instead they gave me a cockamamie storie about the brain releasing its algae because of being moved from a back tank to a front tank, and how it would absolutely make an incredible recovery within days in my home tank.

im having the worst day of my life.....and that made me smile.

Anne, I hope the sand bed disturbance wasn't the problem!!! It was such a small part of the sand, but who knows. How do the fans and brushes look? I am definitely coming up your way soon for pics. I've been so busy lately.

Hi! Nah, it's all good. Nothing major that can't be controlled, just part of life with a tank. The only macro that made it was the large shaving brush--but that one looks so good it's worth it.

And yes! Just let me know whenever your schedule eases up--you bring the camera, I'll have beer and a frag waiting.

???? Did I ruin my beautiful new birdsnest? I didn't glue it down at first because I wanted to make sure the spot I had picked wasn't too close to the hydnophora. Of course, it fell over a couple of times, and I found it yesterday morning knocked to the sandbed behind the rocks.

I got it, and then used putty to set it in place, but I think I was too rough. Not all of the polyps are extending and it's still sliming.

Will my oh-so-overpriced-but-oh-so-pretty nest recover?
