I kept a pair of black seahorses for about 4 months and it ended terribly. I thought that I had done enough research but I let my excitement get the best of me at the lfs and purchased the seahorses too early.
One tip for you - make 100% certain that your lfs or online store can provide you with the EXACT name of the seahorse you are purchasing. And 'black' or 'yellow' is not exact. I'm talking full Latin name, and any other common names it would be known by. Then go home and find everything online you can about that species.
Since I didn't know exactly what I had, it made it difficult to figure out what was wrong with them (still not sure, but think it was parasites).
