Hmmmm... it is a good plan, isn't it?

.....

The purdy cory has like 5 babies already.... sooo cute.
halfpint
You should clean it. laugh.gif
Lalani
I did, last week... but within a few days, that dagnab dictoya algae was back in full force. tears01.gif
Even a 3-day lights out period had no effect on the stuff... blarg.
nanoty
Do over.
Lalani
The tank? Nah. Today I transferred the big rock with three minis from the 5.5gal to this one, along with the sexy shrimp. It'll be a sexy/nem tank with a lot of dictoya algae sprinkled within. sleep.gif

That would be a hitcher feather duster that came in on the sealife rock. You can see the new growth of the tube.. I love it's spikes. happy.gif

How did you do this so clear?! Every shot I try ends up with too long an exposure time to keep everything nice and clear like that. I guess a tripod would help sleep.gif

Nah, I don't use a tripod. tongue.gif
100mm macro lens, diffused external flash, and manual exposure. wink.gif

Cool thanks! I guess a flash would illuminate small shots like that. I can see the color difference now that you say smile.gif. I just got the 100mm macro and while nature shots are easy to physically take (composition can be difficult at times), clear and colorful pictures of the tank just seem to allude me.

Thanks! The krylon fusion held onto the eggcrate with no problem. Never noticed any fading or chipping. smile.gif

I've been thinking about buying some Sealife rock to get my picotope going. I wonder how much they would charge me to ship 3lbs of rock.

I promise for it to have some sexy in it.

Sealifeinc. rock is awesome and i envy you guys who can have so many different tanks for fun! it sucks being a kid reefer.....

Strange stuff going on..... Dictoya algae has suddenly died off... and I found the sexies all sickly yesterday, even had to transfer one to the 40br (in which it has not been seen since it started walking around again).... Also, the mini nems look stressed.

I put new RO/DI membranes in the filter and am doing water changes.

huh.gif
Weetabix7
Uh-oh.
You don't think the macro could have gone sexual do you?
Lalani
I don't think so.... I noticed in the 5.5gal tank, in which the dictoya originated (through moving frags around, it spread to the 15gal) the algae died slowly after I stopped using the daylight bulbs. Under only actinics, the growth slowed, halted, and the dictoya died off completely. So, I did the same for the 15gal. Running only actinics for the past month or more. Also, skipped a couple of water changes, just like in the 5.5gal.

Apparently it doesn't like dirty water (blink.gif)
But, of course.... neither do the inverts. sleep.gif
Lizzie1324
Hey Lani! Long time no see. smile.gif
So my frag tank is set up with light, filter, water and everything. I have the rack taking up half the tank on one side but the other side is open. I think I wanna put like dwarf seahorses(i gots ta do sum reserch tho) or a bunch of sexiessssss. I am putting up pics soon so you can see what I mean. sory for the hijack, those feather dusters are cool.

oh and I bought my first mini nem yesterday and it will be here next week!!! yayyyyyyyyyyyyy smile.gif

The macros in my 5.5 contest tank are constantly flaring up and dying back so that wouldn't bother me so much.

The unhappy 'nems and sexies most definatley would tho.

How we lookin' after the water change buddeh ? huh.gif

I agree. I hate having such a low budget.
BibleSue
Wow! I hope things are looking up! I had to pull out a carpet of GHA when I got home last week. The corals looked very healthy though. Hubby only did WC every 10 days or so. Top off jugs had a bit of slime in the bottom so that may have caused it. Also, collection bucket for the RO/DI water had a bit of slime on the lower part of the bucket. Check for that. Keep us posted.

Everything looks a little better today. The sexies aren't laying on their sides anymore, lol. mellow.gif
Before I replaced the RO/DI membranes, the TDS reading was around 40, so I can only imagine that's what bothered everything. Same thing happened last time the membranes got old.. that's when I lost the mini rbta and two maxi minis. sad.gif

Yeah, I need to clean the water mixing bucket and powerhead.. I should have it all under control, thanks MamaSue! smile.gif

The corynactis nems in the 5.5gal seem to be fading away a bit... I may frag a couple of the babies and drop them in the 40br, then move the rest of them and everything from the 5.5gal into this tank.

lalani i swear your threads are some of the funniest stuff i have read on this site XD after reading the part about goby p0rn and all that i couldnt help but find my sig appropriate for the situation i wish i had posted during that wink.gif i may have skipped a few pages ( dancingnaughty.gif ) but some time in the future u should do a sexy/bumblebee shrimp tank with teh mini nems biggrin.gif both small adorable shrimps happy.gif

time to go lurk ur other threads ninja.gif

oh and ive been curious if im member # 46,226... whos member #1...?
Lalani
Glad you enjoyed the randomness of my thread. laugh.gif
Lalani
M'kay.... transferred one sexy to the 40br and within an hour it was back up and looking healthy... wasn't able to catch the others. Yesterday, found one dead in the 15gal, other two were weak and easy to catch. Transferred them to the 40br and again, within an hour they were up and going again. Transferred two of the mini nems on a small rock to the 40br and they are looking ok. The other three mini nems aren't looking too good in the 15gal. Did a water change today. Going to wait until tomorrow, if the nems are still looking back, they will be transferred to the 40br along with the remaining CUC.

After that I will probably transfer the rocks, sand, and cory nems from the 5.5gal to the this tank, turn off the light fixture, put the 5.5gal into storage, and see what happens in this one after a few water changes. Might end up taking it down completely too. Dunno yet.
Edit: Going to put the cory nems in the 40br tonight.
Lalani
So..... the 5.5gal has been dismantled and the remaining LR from it is now in the 15gal tank.... purdy rocks too. Apparently coralline grows really well under actinic-only lighting. Oh, and feather caulerpa grows well in no light at all. mellow.gif
Didn't do water changes and left the lights off this tank for a couple of weeks and it's free of dictoya algae, that's a good thing.

Now I need to decide what to do with this tank....

Jacobnano
Seahorses perhaps?
nebthet
That would be nice. Dwarf seashorses.
Lalani
Nah, seahorses are too high maintanence and I'm a super lazy reefer, lol.
NanoReefNovice
Macro tank cool.gif
MGDMIRAGE
Wow super coralline growth. Would be a cool experiment: tank full of rocks and nothing but actinics for a year or so straight. Maybe some DEEP water corals too, there you go, it's an idea smile.gif

a GIANT hermit crab tank! cool.gif

Pictures of clown?
Lalani
Bah.

It's an occ. clown... google it. tongue.gif
Took it out of the 40br because the two were not getting along at all... things were getting violent.
