well I lost the mini clone I think its mouth was destroyed in the move but I will have one for ya when I start fragging the others.

and as for the pic I avoid cameras on fire scenes like the plague because if you get your pic in the paper or on the news you have to buy icecream for the whole station.

She's a beautttyyy!!!

I can't wait to get my pod population up! Hehe!
It is a SHE, right? I don't see an elongated dorsal spine?
Edit: Thanks for posting pics Lani

You know I was dying to see her!
Lalani
Feb 9 2009, 10:14 PM

I dunno if it's a she or he, but it's been gobbling up the pods like crazy. Thankfully there are a lot of them in the frag tank.

Great mandarin, I've always thought the more orange ones were really cool. Good luck with it, they're outstanding fish once they get settled in!

nice mandy i like my psych but i prefer the blue mandys better. I am goin on a hiatus from NR at the end of the month so I need to get all the pics of my stuff up before I leave, ( ugh another school to go to ) I will be gone for two months but I will pop in from time to time on the weekends to see all the progress and such, and possibly to post a pic of firefighters at the academy at Lani's request.

Mandarin has decimated the pod population....... BUT, has also started showing interest in the frozen food. She tastes it, then spits it back out, so I'll probably start soaking the food in garlic juice and see if that helps.

How's the feeding coming with the Mandy?
Lalani
Feb 17 2009, 09:35 PM
Not really happening yet... she's stubborn.
Alicia
Feb 17 2009, 09:53 PM
Hmmm...I am sure she is still snacking on pods. You should try some Rod's Food...Stevie swears by it and his Mandy gobbles it up! It's worth a try.
I've also heard of people using a piece of air tube and putting food into a corner of the tank using a syringe to push it through...even into a small clump of chaeto so the Mandy can pick at it...at least until she's used to eating the food. Hope things work out!
Looking forward to more pics eventually!

Alicia - Yeah, I've been turning off the pumps and squirting the food in the corner of the tank she spends most of her time picking in.. she's tasted the food a couple of times but hasn't actually eaten any that I've seen. I'll keep trying.

I am thinking about taking my mandarin back to my LFS ( I got it for free for doing work for them ). My tank is having an algea bloom and I am thinking its coming from the every other day feedings I have to do to keep the mandarin well fed and happy. I really dont want to but I dont want to risk my tanks well being and the health of the mandarin.
Lalani
Feb 18 2009, 07:16 PM
Yeah, that's understandable.. I've only had this mandarin for a short time and I already see some cyano popping up in the frag tank from the overfeeding... I still see a bunch of copepods on the glass, so I'm thinking the pile of rubble is providing enough hiding places that they are still reproducing fairly quickly...
Alicia
Feb 18 2009, 08:35 PM
Understandable...but what if you just add some more CUC? I have a tendency to overfeed (I feed everyday) and had some cyano...I added a few more hermits and 2 turbos and no more problem... Plus, making sure I do at least a 10% water change weekly.
Sergeant-what are you feeding your Mandy? If he/she IS eating that food, maybe you could try to target feed more rather than just spreading it all over your tank. I don't know for sure if that would work...as I don't even have a Mandarin yet, but thought it might be worth a try before giving her up. Goodluck guys!

I feed every other day, I feed mysis and or brine shrimp, I have a large cuc already and I do spot feed with a syringe attached to a length of airline tubing. I love keeping my mandarin and she is really fun to watch, she comes to the glass and begs for food, my main concern is I am leaving for fire school in a week and I am worried that she wont be fed properly by my family while I am gone, or the tank will be overfed for that matter. I love keeping her but I have to also be concerned for my tank while I am gone. I hate it but it is how it is going to have to be till I get back. Plus if I ask they will keep her and care for her till I get back.
Alicia
Feb 19 2009, 06:23 AM
Ah...I understand now now Serge...I don't know that I would be able to trust anyone I know to do the same for me for a long period of time either. Good luck at fire school though!
