go with the sunpod 150w, then you can have the open top!
Ando
I already ordered my nova extreme pro. I think with MH my tank would get to hot.. With my power compacts it get to about 81 alone.
hmmhmm
I think it can be made like an external ice probe mini chiller...it will be better explained when I get some pics of what I am doing...not sure when I'm going to start though...maybe this weekend if I can find the parts in town..
Ando
Let me know if it works.

How much $$ do you think it would be in parts?
Nosey
When you get your nova extreme pro make sure you post pic's, I was humming and hawing between the two, I like both of the lights. It was hard to pick between the two. Can you keep the same coral as you can with the MH of the sunpod with the Nova?
Ando
From what I have herd you can keep the same corals under T5's as MH.. As long as each bulb has its own reflector. And they are cheaper to run, the bulbs are not as hot because it does not concentrate on one are such as MH bulbs. That's why T5's are cooler.

From the ups shipping it says my light should be here monday!

what do you think ando? something that can be done?
Ando
Looks cool! But I'm confused on how it works?

Does water flow threw the tubes into the container where the fans cool down the water?
hmmhmm
yeah that was my idea...but i find theres more those units than i expected...i will keep looking into it though...
Ando
Wouldn't just basic fans work instead of going through all of the trouble to build a chiller?
R-3
What did you use on your top? It looks pretty thick 1"?
Ando

Top of what? My tank stand?

I just used about a quarter inch piece of ply wood then framed around it.

Looks interesting, but how does the pasta fit in, is it some kind of filter media ? cool.gif
Ando
I would use spiral noodles! haha

Ando
went to the lfs and picked up 2 clown fish and 5 turbo snails!

The clown fish are soo awesome! They are small little guys.

hmmhmm
those from coral conn's small tank on the counter? they look good!

ya i gave up on the diy chiller...i guess when i get my income tax check i'll get a nano chiller then do a 150hqi in the hood...i just want the stock look...
Ando
ya from coral connection.

that would prob be the best way for a chiller lol!

I bet you could find a cheaper used one too.
Rathje70
Keep us posted on that light Ando! Sorry I have not been able to get pictures up yet, I will try doing it today!! Everything is looking good!

Rathje70
Ando
Thanks rathje!

My light should be here today so I will update with pics when I get it all up.
Nosey
How are the fish doing Ando?....I love little clown fish, so much fun to watch, and they do such odd things!
Ando
My clown fish have been doing great! They always follow each other around.. really cool to watch them.

My new nova extreme pro is doing awesome as well! I noticed a huge difference in lighting which looks soo much better now, and the heat from the lights does not affect the temperature at all.

I think tomorrow I will pick up some more corals from the lfs.

I made a wall out off egg crate so the fish don't jump into the back chambers

Nosey
Man, I love that new light, it's a nice rich blue colour. Keep me in the loop about the coral growth. Maybe I’ll see if I can do a trade with someone, I really like the colour. Does it have moon lights for night?.....I'm happy to hear about your fish.
Nosey
FYI When your doing maintenance on your tank, try hard not to lean or put any weight on top of your light. My light has the same side arms, and I must have leaned on it somewhat, because the grove in the arms that holds the light in place broke, so I had to glue it in place with reef safe glue. It’s doing the job for now, but I don’t really trust it that much, I’m going to try and order a new side arm.
Ando
no moon lights on it. But I may take the ones out of my old biocube top and use them some how.

I went to the lfs today and got a green birds nest and a blue millepora. I will post pics tomorrow when my lights are on.

also I made a top out of acrylic so the fish do not jump out and start carpet surfing (even though I have tile lol)

nosey- thats a bummer about your light. I usually just push mine towards the back so it's not in the way.
Ando
Well im bored so here are some pics. Still need to get some pics of the clown fish's.

The acrylic top I made[b]

Cool Ando, how did you do your sig block??
Nosey
I like the top! Was it hard to make? Does it cut down on evaporation? How did you trace, and cut out the shape ?, and does it heat up the tank?
Ando
I made my sig block on photo shop. as far as evaporation I don't notice any difference in evap with the top on it. It was also pretty easy to make... first off I cut it in a square then traced the round part and just cut it.

Nosey
Thanks again Ando for the info. I go through about 1 g of water a day, so if i can slow that down some, i'll give it a try!
Ando
WOW a gallon a day! You have MH right?
Nosey
ya im running 150w MH, with my sunpod!
Ando
Nosey I was really tempted on the MH but my tank would prob get so hot.

I got a few corals the other day. 1 brain, some cool looking zoas, and a mushroom. I'll get pics up tomorrow.

I really want to get some Australian Acans! maybe in a few months!
Ando
Here are some new zoos and a brain I got.

anyone know what the names of them are? sorry about the crap pics.

Cool tank Ando. I think clown fish are fun to watch too. I have a Black Ocellaris and just added a common collored (orange) Ocellaris to my tank last night. I'm hoping to get them to pair up, so I made sure that my orange was somewhat larger than my black when I picked it out. So far so good as they haven't been more than a few inches aparts since I introduced the orange into the tank. It sounds like yours are doing the same.
Ando
Here are some new pics. What do you guys think? I really like the pink pallys. I was thinking of getting a skimmer but I'm not sure if I want to spend around 100 to 150 on one.

Nosey
Looking good! some real nice colour.
Ando
nosey. are u running a skimmer in yours?
Nosey
I am, it's a Tunze 9002 skimmer!
Ando
How do you like it?

Do you think it's nesasary to even have one? If i do big water changes?
Nosey
I would have to say it depends on what you’re doing. I’ve been a little on the lazy side as of late. I’m doing 15% WC every other week now. I’m still fighting my Dino problem, although 98% of it is gone, I’m still trying to keep the WC down some for another week or so. So I find it necessary, It’s pulling out a lot of brown scum, and that’s what I’m going by. In about another two months my job is going to have me away a lot, so I’m trying to automate as much as I can, the skimmer will come in handy then forsure.

You should be ok if your doing reg water changes, but having said that, I don't think that a skimmer would be over kill in a 29g. Can you ever have too much filtration?
BigART
Great tank. I'm glad to hear the Nova Extreme Pro is working out for you. I just ordered one myself. I also heard rumor that Current USA is coming out with more bulb options for the 20" sometime this year.

I sure HOPE so. smile.gif

Anyone else hear of this?

What would you guys suggest on a skimmer?

-Tunze 9002?
-Sapphire?
any other skimmers?

Or should I not even get one?

I have been debating on wether to get one or not?

I usually do a 5gallon water change one week then the next week a 10gallon water change. So basically 5g one week 10g the next week and switch back and forth..If that makes a difference. lol... or If i'm confusing you.

I would like to hear what you guys think on skimmers?

-Thanks

Tunze

I have the Tunze 9002 and can tell you that it works pretty well. I can't comment on the Sapphire skimmer as I haven't used one.
Enzo0000
I have the new sapphire and it works great! Is'nt your 2nd chamber a fuge? if so, your out of luck with the sapphire...it takes up almost your whole second chamber.

I thought the sapphire was an out of tank skimmer?
Nosey
Ok so this is about a week of skimming with the Tunze. It's a little on the wet side, but i love it. Ando, come over to the darkside!.........Together we can rule the empire......of skimming....I was just watching Star Wars, my bad!
BigART
Will the Tunze fit in a 24G NC?

I have my 2nd chamber as a fuge, hmm.
Nosey
I don't know, but im sure that StevieT could shed some light on this...........StevieT, where are you when we need you?
