The acro crab came in as a hitchhiker on the Marshall Island Blue Bottlebrush....all the way from ORA!!!!

Thanks so much for the compliments...I have had good success with this reed thusfar....I was just reading my hilarious tank move thread on my club site and had to lugh with how well it is doing now....

Funny story....the pink birdsnest was just about handball to tennis ball size and I took it out onto my back porch where I have a nice gelcoated round fiberglass table and my dremel always plugged in to cut a little frag for a friend and I dropped the colony onto the concrete porch floor....well....I ended up with a few extra frags..... and there were MANY little bitty pieces that were too little to fuss with....

Yup...I just love trading, but unfortunately shipping costs keep me just tradng locally....maybe some day I will be able to afford the thrill of getting a little box at work again.....

That tricolor A. valida is amazing! What's the scale on that picture? I'm just curious how big they get before they start to show that growth pattern.

Actually that growth pattern came by accident....it was a regular little three branched acro about 3 inches tall, encrusted well out onto the tile when I dropped the LR on it, crushing the entire vertical part....I put it in a good place and left it for over a year and this is how it came back.....Really cool growth, I'm thinking it will end up a major colony piece.....

consistent and do everything slow.....It matches my general disposition well......

That A. valida was the one that was doing well, growing nicely....

That was last year July 23, 2008

Then the famous tank move and the dropped rock, and it got crushed.....

That shot was 2 weeks later, on 8/7/08....

Then the slow encrustation and grow out....

This one was 10-3-08

Then it grew some and bleached some and grew some more and finally voila!

July 27, 2009....it was a heck of a year for this coral, but it's going to be fabulous real soon....

I don't have much fragged just now, but could cut up a bunch of stuff...I do have a couple of nice Pink with Purple Polyp Seriatopora BirdsNest frags.....This one is spoken for, but I have two others just about like it available....



Look through the recent opsts and let me know what you are interested in and I can figure out a pack, and have LittleRedneckMan check it out too.....I can figure it out and do some cutting.....

I like the pink bn, dewaslii (sp?), and the greenish acro you're holding a frag of that's between you red cap and confusa. I've heard it called ORA Marshall islands yellow fuzzy, but I don't know if that's what it is. If you can pm an estimated price that'd be great.

That is Juice's Neon Flashlight Acropora chesterfieldensis, or Chesterfield acro....I wish I could capture the true color of it...because it's truly frighteningly vivid neon green...I will take a look at what I can frag and give you a PM on the pack...

That works, I was looking at cutting them and giving them a couple weeks to heal up anyway....We can work it out.....

We may be trying to come down that way in the next few weeks for some scuba anyway, maybe we could work it out for that form of delivery! It would save on a cool pack and such.....

I am learning a whole new chapter of life lately. It all began last Tuesday, at work. I thought I was having a real monster muscle spasm in my back...and it lasted like 7 hours....even despite the 800 mg of Ibuprofen....Well, when it hit again late Thursday night I realized it might be something more than a muscle spasm, so we made a trip to the ER....I am passing a 5 to 6 mm kidney stone....it is just as hideous as everybody says....I am praying for it to pass out of me very soon....

Anyway, just to be nice to myself I went to my local purveyor of coral niceties and found this sweet frag of ORA Bird of Paradise Seriatopora....

That's about 1/2 hour out of the bag, but it sure is pretty...huh?

As for the tricolor, I was just devastated when I smashed it, but WOW...the end effect is a trip....

Awesome! What are you using for lights? Are you still using the modded MJ900, K4, and old powerheads for movement? What's you skimmer. Tank looks great! I love the peninsula look.

Okay Nick....I will keep that in mind....I figure we will have to wait the standard 2 1/2 to 3 months for it to get used to my tank, but then if it does like my other two Birdsnests there will be LOTS of frags available.....

I also just cut two nice frags of my Rose Acropora millepora...the little one for a guy in my club, the other for whoever decides they want it....




Both of my frag racks are stuffed to the point of things falling off them....I gotta get a frag tank set up soon....

paleo...I have Phoenix MH, 250W over the SPS end and 150W over the other end, 2 Geiesemann Actinic Plus 39W T5HO's with the good reflectors for lighting...as for flow, I got rid of the maxi-mod and added a second K4, modded to allow side mounting, with my Blueline 1100 return pump and the skimmer is still the Octopus 110NW....

I really appreciate the props on the tank...it's doing really good lately....

I had redbugs a little while back, but after I did 3 rounds of Interceptor the acros all took off with new growth...

Corals look good Mitch. That sunset is pushing itself up from the bottom of the tile, I really need to cut it.

Also, the little piece of Tort you gave me is quite the colony now!

That's wonderful Crystal....I lost my Tort colony....it did the RTN thing on me a few months ago...I was sooooo sad over that one.....

It is still recouperating from the Tyree blue lamellosa chalice falling on it....no growth and the colors are still off, but it has great PE and is slowly getting its color back....BOTH of them took a hit on that disaster....

May be a while before that one does much....

oh well sh!t happens, glad to know it didnt get KO'd

I looked again this evening and I think it's starting to grow again!!!! It has colored up a bunch again....still not where it will be, but MUCH better than it was....the Meteor Shower AND the blue lamellosa BOTH turned muddy grey...I was pi$$ed....

They are both coloring back up, but the lamellosa has MUCH farther to go....If the cyphastrea gets growing good I may be able to cut you a frag within a couple months....where are you located? It's nasty hot for shipping here in Florida just now....

Oh...never mind...I looked....Long Island.....I would b better waiting til it cools off here but before it becomes numbingly cold there.....

Hey mitch, any chance you can frag the sunset or superman? Long story short my dad is giving me some cash so i could get the coral now, but I know how hot it is and don't want to risk it.

I could prolly cut a pretty nice piece of Superman....the Sunset isn't ready yet.....

That's fine, the more i think about the sunset the less i want it, since I have an acro with the identical colors and I'm trying not to have a bunch of one color.. My LFS has a huge piece of mystic sunset look-a-like that I might get, but it's so big I don't know where to put it!

That sounds nice....I have to really plan ahead for any coral purchases these days...I have 5 frags waiting to go to a friend in Michigan as soon as his tank is ready, then I may be able to pick up a couple of things...time will tell....

Maybe if you get a little cash and we can justify a trip that way I can do a delivery some time in the near future....I just love the diving down that way....

I survived my surgery...FOUR kidney stones removed....the aftermath of the surgery has been hideous, kidney spasms that make the pain of trying to pass the stones look like a minor headache...I thought the stones made for bad pain, but the spasms started out at least half again as bad for me....anyway, things are improving and I'm going back in to work tomorrow....

At any rate, I am waiting to pick up a frag of Pink Panties Acans that akabryanhall is holding for me, and am working on a swap for Hiller's Aqua Delight and ORA Hawkins Blue Echinata from a member of my club. I will post pics of everything as I get them....

My ORA Marshall Island blue bottlebrush and ORA Borealis acros are starting to color up nicely....


And I need to mount this humk of Superman Monti so it can start spreading out....


I need to make some rock soon, and get hold of a couple more T5's so I can set up my frag tank soon....all my racks are overflowing....what a tragedy
