I'm going to have to pi$$ that Superman off again soon, aren't I? Are you going to be coming to Orlando any time soon? I don't think I'm going to be down that way for a while...Bride is still out of work so no dive trips coming up
I could probably get a frag of the Tort off, but mind you, it would be a very small frag.
Let me know what to start looking at...you are an impatient little cuss aren't you???

Nightly Camera snapping....I am really enjoying my new camera...to the tune of 622 shots since Christmas Day!!!
My Rainbow Acans are still tiny, but they are starting to show some amazing color....

Here is my original Mother polyp of the Happy Corals Schizo Blasto colony...(BTW, She's available for sale...Inquire Within)...

That frag stone is OVER an inch and a half wide...This is just a couple of hours after being moved in the tank...not yet fully extended!
I tucked this Birdsnest back into the corner a few months ago and just kind of ignored it...well it sat there for quite a while, and suddenly a few weeks ago it decided to grow like crazy....

One of my Duncanopsammia axifugia frags...(Couple of these available too)...

And this frag of the Happy Corals Schizo Blastos is flying to Michigan tomorrow night....

picture taken after sunset....
Thanks for tuning in,
Mitch

So...somebody from my club decided that he wanted a piece of my Tyree Blue Lamelossa chalice, so I got the Dremel out today..here is what I started with...

And now all I have left is this....

But I have two additional frags that need to heal before they go, but they will be available as soon as they heal!!!

Feb 7 2009, 07:46 PM
Nope, not heading up that way anytime soon. A small piece of tort is fine, broke off a 3/4" piece of the forestfire digi for you, so a small piece of tort is a fair trade imo.

Thank you so very much. I a geniunely honored by your kind words. My aim is to provide a nice environment for all the creatures I host. If I can provide them with an acceptable habitat, only then can I feel deserving of the beauty and serenity they bring to my home and my life...

I gotta kinda laugh...most of them are just set in a convenient spot, someplace where they won't fall into a crack in the rocks...I've lost a few nice pieces that way over time...eventually they encrust, then I have no choice in the matter...Here is a good example...look at that stupid Blue A. millepora, grabbin a rock!

Thanks a million...I actually just cut a few pieces off of it...let them heal up and color up and I will include one into a frag pack for you! (Oh wait, frag packs are illegal, how about a frag assemblage!!)

I guess the Bubblegum Monster chalice decided not to put another eye on just yet, but it seems o be concentrating on spreading out and growing. It's a different angle, but you can see a lot of spreading out at the edges....
Here is the first week I had it:
1/17/09

Here is last night:
2/12/09

Here is yet another attempt to capture the true colors of my Appleberry Monti:

This one is tough to get a good, honest colors picture of.
JKUNZ
Feb 13 2009, 12:41 PM
Wow!!! Awesome!!!
That appleberry is sweet!!! Is that 4.0 or 4.5? I can't remember

I got an ORA Bellina Acropora...I'll have to put pics up later, I think you may like it.
MitchReef
Feb 13 2009, 02:57 PM
Looks like you deferred that one to 4.5....I can always switch it for you....
MitchReef
Feb 16 2009, 08:59 PM
Okay, so I got out a little pair of wire nips, scrubbed all the oil off them and chopped JKUNZ's frag off the Acropora desalwii....This is just a beautiful coral...
I think it cut in a really nice spot...
This pic was after I dipped it to set the cyanoacrylate, but before I put it back in the tank...

Here is the frag back in the tank, but it still doesn't have much PE yet...

This is a really crappy shot, but it shows the tabling structure really well....

I will try to get a pic in a little while when it shags back out a little...
MitchReef
Feb 16 2009, 09:48 PM
Okay, It's been an hour and 10 minutes, a little polyp extension so far....not bad....
MitchReef
Feb 17 2009, 08:41 PM
Okay, so a day has gone by and I took another picture with much better polyp extension....

I could get better pictures if I got my tripod out and actually stopped the pumps, but stopping them in my tank are a task. It would be 5 steps to stop them all, so this is what we get for tonight....long day at work today, what can I say...

Well, I'm willing to frag almost anything in there....I just gotta get somebody interested in buying....Frag Packs are illegal here on NR, so I tend to put together "Frag Assemblages"...I could get a few things together whenever you are interested...are you into SPS, LPS, Acros? What's your specialty? Let me know and I can send you a few pictures...Let's do a Frag Assemblage...I kind of use the trade mark Happy Corals...and I'm a good shipper too....

I am part of a small group of local reefers and who decided that if we band together and buy some nice corals TOGETHER, then we can afford things that none of us could afford on our own...and with a little grow out, then we frag them out and all have the item...
We all share in the risk, that if somebody has a crash, or disaster, then we all shoulder the loss together. Well, we made our decision and hooked up with JuicyCorals, our foremost local exotics farm (and close personal friend) and today I started our first grow out....
Tyree LE Peace Coral...it's a beautiful little favia...We have 6 eyes, and two babies, but when it hits 3 full eyes each, we chop it up and distribute it...
Here is our first baby...

That's only about two hours in the tank....nice and fluffy already...
I also chopped a nice frag off the Neon Flashlight Acropora chesterfieldensis...it's at least 9 tips!

This one will be joining the Acropora desalwii, and another nice piece on a trip to Michigan and JKUNZ' tank soon....
Here is what I have of my Mother Colony...PLEASE be aware that these were taken only about an hour after it was put back in my tank after 6 hours in a bag and being cut in two!!!

I got a nice new pic of my AA Meteor Shower Cyphastrea today...it's looking good now...

Ya know, these three frags just have a great variety of colors...I love the shades here...

I am getting some growth from my Mike Paletta Blue encrusting Montipora...check out the way it's "oozing" out away from the original frag.....

Oh yeah, sorry about that picture, I just didn't get the focus quite right. One of these days I need to build my photo shelf....
My Tri-Color Acropora valida is doing nicely....this is the one that was 3 sweet long branches and 2 1/2 inches tall until I dropped a rock on it!!!!

Last, but not least...here is another attempt to capture the true look of my Rainbow Montipora....I just can't seem to ever get a good picture of this one....

I will have to see what I can do...This is a peninsular 75 display, so a FTS effectively covers over 9 feet of viewing area, so I will probably have to do a few area shots, but I will see what I can put together this evening...

Nice frags as always mitch and you were right i have been studying like a mad man this semester blows. My tri color is starting to grow nicely too! Funny they both are growing at the same time. Just keep me posted of what you have frags of from time to time that way if i'm in the market i can get them form you!

well got the 250 watt fixture in i was wondering what bulb/ballast do you use on your fixture?
MitchReef
Mar 1 2009, 07:37 PM
I use the Phoenix bulb and 2 39W Geieseman Actinic Plus T5HO's...I have a 250W MH over the high demand corals and a 150W over the low light area...you really don't notice the difference unless youa re aware of it to begin with....
And my Ballast is an old second hand POS....I really want a good ballast, but have no means just now....

Thanks a million....I just do the best I can and things seem to grow well in my humble little reef...
As I finished taking those pictures I noticed a very important frag up under the main rockwork...right where it cannot be reached...I screwed my rock-scape up getting the frag...so, stuff is shuffled around some, but it looks good again, just different....That seems to happen just when I get things the way I like!!!

Okay, so I got really tired of how one of my Acroporae was growing...The big ole towering yellow A millepora....

Up there on top toward the right...yeah, that's the one....
Well, I guess I just reached in an lopped 2 full inches off the top...Here is the frag....

Here is the colony now....

And BTW...I shot another try at the Rainbow...this one got pretty close to grabbing the colors...but the blue of the tissue is richer than this shows...

The focus is my issue, I'm trying for manual focus, but just haven't grapped it exactly right yet...
Please be aware that the yellow A millepora is MAJOR pissed off in those pictures, it was like 8 minutes from the wire cutters....
