This leather is out of control. It grows like a weed n those are full grown tangs in front of it.

If anyone wants a large free cutting off of it and will pay shipping send me a pm!

At first glance I thought wow those tangs are flirting with death hanging around that huge carpet nem. Then I though WTH that isn't a carpet there is no mouth. Then I made it to the bottom of the post. Holy Leather Boot Straps Batman that is one hugh leather cora!

LOL. I call it my carpet leather because it looks so much like a carpet anemone.

I have a bunch of local reefers lined up to take cuttings off of it. I need to reign it in a bit. Hopefully I will be able to off load enough of it.

I may get an iPhone FTS today or tomorrow. I still have two more rocks to add ( for about 8 months now) to complete the left hand side coral tower. They have bben on top of my canopy waiting for me to drill them for months. now.

LPS in the tank are growing well. Leathers are obviously growing fantastic. Clams is doing well. SPS is encrusting a lot but most of it is growing slowly - which is understandable given the bio load and only one water change since April. I need to get that back to twice a month and then the SPS growth will return. I suspect they encrust because they are getting trace elements that they need from the live rock since they are missing from the water.

I have very pretty neon green leather like that, not that size though, I resently got it from a follow reefer friend going through the big D and that is not Dallas. I haven't had a leather coral in 10 years, mostly LPS's, nems and srums. I forgot how cool leathers are.

FTS is in order!!!

This one found its way into this tank because it was the only place I had room - it was big then - maybe pushing 12 inches across back in January or so. Once it got hit with SPS level water motion and lights, it started growing even faster. I'd get rid of it, but it looks so cool with the clowns. I am cutting the heck out of it this week and giving it to local reefers. There is also a neon green leather in the back of the tank behind the left rock tower, but it grows more slowly and more upright.

This is the best I can do for a FTS for now. Dirty glass. crummy lowres iPhone camera, etc...
A few shots with all lights and one with the actinics. The SPS really should be further along by now, but I just have not had the time do water changes, etc.. so I will settly for the SPS is living for now smile.gif

Cool, Man that FTS puts the size of the Leather coral in perspective. It's HUGE.

I love the Tangs. I just ordered a large PB for mine. I am going to give it another try. I made a intank fish refugium out of clear acrylic. It's 5"X24". The plan is to hang it in the tank with the PB in it for a few weeks. That way the Purple can't get to the PB but they can see each other, hopefully over time the will give up on fighting each other.

Here are some pictures of the refugium in my tank. What do you think, will this work?

Yes. That is a 6 foot tank and the leather is pushing close to 2 feet now!

Nice tank. That might work, but old tangs that are set in their ways are tough. Good luck! I thunk others have tried this method with some success.

So Eric came by and got a few decent pics. Better than my iPhone anyway smile.gif

I messed with the return and stirred up a bunch of debris. Plus the tank is just getting over its first small bout with cyno (old lights, bad pump - both fixed), but there are some good shots despite my tank smile.gif

Thanks Eric/mudskipper!

Note, the leather is recovering from some major recent fraggage smile.gif

A few FTS with fish in various spots. Followed by a bunch of random coral/fish shots.

Nice tank!! You have some sweet colonies.

What is your fish list?
brshriver
Thanks!

1 Flame Hawk trapped in the overflow now for months - seems to be doing fine, but I can't get him out.
1 Sailfin tang
1 Hippo/Blue tang
1 Achilles Tang
1 Yellow Tang
1 Purple Tang
1 Flame Angel
1 Copperband butterfly fish
2 Ocelaris clowns (pairing up - one black one normal - both males from previous pairings - the orange one is becoming the new female)
1 royal gramma
4 blue devils - 3 female, 1 male
2 anthias - one starting to turn to a female.
1 blue spotted watchman goby that somehow hitchhiked into my previous tank. It grew up in my fuge for years unnoticed until I broke down the tank! The fuge had miracle mud in it. Maybe he is the miracle.

Awesome list!

That's amazing that you had a hitchhiker goby.

The picture of the Sailfin just before the yellow is awesome. To bad you did get the whole tang but still. smile.gif

Thanks! I am lucky to get the tangs to all get along!

I have no idea how the goby got in my old tank. My best guess is that he lived ina small crevice as a small fry in a piece of live rock. Either that, or someone snuck him into my fuge when I was not looking smile.gif

I may have cropped him a little bit to hide some cyno or something smile.gif

Happy New Year everyone.

I got a Rebel T1I DSLR for the holidays so now I can take a decent picture whenever I get lucky....I still won't compete with Lalani though smile.gif

Caught up with Brett last night to take a few photos, here are a couple samples, and the rest of the set is on flickr (see below).

All Photos taken with a Nikon D7000 with Tamron 90mm Macro Lens, Coral shots on tripod with remote shutter, fish shots taken in-hand with no flash. Let me know if you have further questions.

The rest of the set on Flickr can be found here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/69591498@N08/...57628720489003/

And now that i look at my sig I see that my 110G tank just passed its 5 year aniversary - I can't believe that. It is still running - with ups and downs like all tanks. It is just coming out of a down cycle as the old lights were finally replaced (but not soon enough due to taking too long to build the LED fixture) with a 5 foot home made LED fixture. But the tank is on the upswing again. As I look in it, there are a few 5 year old corals still in there. A copper band, coral beauty angel and mandarin have been in there the whole time. It actually houses a 10 year old clown that I inherited this summer. Plus, the blue tang and sailfin tang who live in the 210 now (see above) are original inhabitants of the 110 as well. I think the Achilles is on year three or four. He started in the 110 too.

Thanks again Eric! Your Flikr photo from above even made those star polyps look interesting!

Yep. I should hire Eric K as my permanent photographer while he is still unkown smile.gif He got some great shots that make the tank look better than it is these days. Lalani refused to move to the east coast so she lost the job.

Hard to believe. The 46 bow that was upgraded to the 210 was started almost 6 years ago. 6 years and a lot of $$$ smile.gif I think those darn star polyps, the male clown, the green leather and a few of the other corals have been around ever since. The yellow tang and royal gramma were almost that old too. Time flies too fast.

And the biggest update came from mudskipper!

The tank is running well now so maybe I will post more.
