Anyone ever use garf? I did a search on the forums here for them and really turned up nothing. I have only heard good things about them and I know their prices aren't high at all. So what are the opinions of them and their products?

I am originally from Boise and know them well...trustworthy products and a really nice facility. I used to be part of the IMAS club and our president was Scott Morell who used to work at GARF. I have three tanks in my house all using GARF products, and one using the complete Bullet Proof Reef system.

My 5 gallon is using GARF Grunge Plus and Aragacrete rocks by GARF....see my tank thread on my siggy...

Their cleaners are pricey, but their frags are reasonable, (I like that frag spelled backwards is garf). A friend of mine got some zoas from them once, and I got one of the green ones he didn't care for. Still alive in my tank. I think if you find the right order form on their site you get like 7 frags for $120 shipped, or at least that is what he said he paid. What is best about them though is only 10% of their corals are wild, which isn't perfect, but is better than most places. They have a page on their site that talks about this.

I have heard nothing but good about them and although have not used or bought anything from them myself, a friend of mine has and speaks highly of them as well.

I just wanted to get recent thoughts on Garf and their products in general. Has anyone else used there grunge or setup a reef the "garf" way?

I've used Garf 3 time over the last 12 years. I've always been exreemly happy with them. The GARF plugs are a bit large BUT they house lots of amphipods, tiny starfish, and have a good bunch of established bacteria in them. I've also used the grunge with huge success. There special right now is 16 species of coral (looks like softies) on 8 reef plugs for $100 with 2 lbs of grunge included. When I get back from Iraq I'm setting up 7.5 nano and will be getting this package. With the grunge and plugs I can get my salt water from Scrips, toss it all in the tank, and have essentially an instant tank. There reef janitors are $1 each not $2.98 as listed if you buy a bunch. I've also been very happy with those as well. You can not go wrong with these folks! I'll try to remember later and post pictures of a 20 I set up with picts of thier corals and plugs.

Thx Diverdave. I sent you a PM as well

Would anyone else like to share their GARF experience? Any pics? Did anyone use it in a closed system without a sump/fuge/etc - placing the "grunge" in the display tank?

1 lb. of GARF grunge turned my tank into a brittle star metropolis. I've only used them once; got a couple gorgonians and zoas and was really happy. Although they didn't have to travel far since they are literally a 5 minute drive from my front door. Funny that I still have to get it shipped though!
