Fine with me, but, to ship here it cost over 100 dollars, so I dunno what it'll be like to MD. Oddly enough, he didn't make me pay shipping though. huh.gif

depending on the service, probably not much more. DC is a hub for many of the large shipping companies.
Jamie
really? Okay, fine with me. The only ones I still really want are the dark red ones - so cool!

More pictures of strawberries and other nems please flower.gif
Jamie
soon! I just finished my english paper! Yay! Now I have a life again for several days!

This is unrelated, but I'm pretty excited about it. For science fair this year I'm attempting to determine the most effective way to raise banded pipefish babies. I probably would be doing something else (though that idea seems to be falling through anyway) but my lfs got the most adorable pipefish pair in and I want them! So, yeah, I'm excited. Dunno if I'll start a thread for that or not - to track progress, might be helpful though. If anyone has info on pipefish breeding, let me know! I'll get pics when I bring em home, prolly early next week.

WE NEED EUROPEAN CONNECTIONS NOW!!

Corynactis viridis:
Lalani
*drool
Jamie
Oooh, I'v never seen that color before, normally they look a lot like C. californica. I think there's also another nice corynactis species from Australia, but not sure.

Speaking of Europe, I got to go to Italy a few years ago, and (this isn't coldwater, but maybe low 70's) I went snorkeling, and there was this awesomest huge bright orange anemone on the bottom. It was amazing! I kept swimming down to look at it, but my mask leaked and the pressure was too much for it, so I didn't get a great look at it, it was very nice though.

And, I am fo sho getting the pipefish now. I hope they make babies! They ate frozen cyclopeez at the store today, very enthusiastically, which is excellent. happy.gif

yeah, i've only seen a few weakly green C. viridis, but those were just crazy. Aussie species is australis, but they look just like C. californica.

Definitely need some Europe connections - they have all sorts of crazy temperate and tropical crap over there, just hiding it from us sad.gif

nice...pipes already eat frozen...dont see that around here!
Jamie
I know, it's rare. I wasn't even gonna ask, fishstore guy was just like, "Hey, wanna see em eat?" And I was like, "YES!" So he fed them cyclops, and it was fun. They really went after it, too, not just an occasional nibble. It looked like they've been eating frozen for a while, though I doubt it. Apparently this kind is easier to train than most. They even had a dragonface pipe eating the cyclops too, though! THAT was quite a surprise. I'd get it too, if I had the space!

Man, I've really been missing out on all the raindeer fun over here. Glad to hear the nems are starting to split Jamie, and you've been able to spread the wealth!!.
I have been having some good succcess with my nems as well. Many of them have ventured out onto the neighboring rocks and glass.
As previously mentioned, they are very light sensitive and do not prefer direct lighting. They seem to be adapting to small amounts of direct light, but would much prefer the evening actinics. I have been feeding them cyclops and myisis and they seem to be enjoying every bit of it.

Just a little FYI....I was out fishing on my boat the other day, off-shore about 20 miles. As I normally do, I fill my 5 gal water jug with some of the cool fresh surrounding water. Then take it home and do a water change.....you would be amazed at how the berries react to this replenishment of natural resources. I wish I could bottle it and send some off to you guys!!!

So I have another trip planned to the rigs in two weeks. Anyone intersted in some berries for their tank....drop me a PM and I'll wok it out with you.
Thought you guys might like to see a pic of the tank.

o hello!! biggrin.gif nice pichers!! omgomgomg.gif

I've noticed the same thing about the light - daylight, they dislike quite a bit. But they quite like the actinics.

i predict...

you shall soon get a pm smile.gif

I want more! Send them to Daniel first though. wink.gif I don't need any more of the colors I have, but dark red and orange (not many left), or any other cool colors, would be very welcome! random fall photos! I was getting bored of taking pictures solely of strawberries, and I didn't want to write my english paper, so I took a walk outside. It was beautiful, so I ran back inside, got my camera, and took another walk. Here are the results:

Thanksees. smile.gif It was my favorite while shooting, but I couldn't get the mushroom and the leaf in focus at the same time, so the mushroom is a little blurry, but it's not terrible. My personal favorite is the first one - it's not a super-duper photo, but I think it's just a really awesome subject. It's a really close macro of some moss and fungus on a rock, but it looks like a whole little landscape. happy.gif

bleh. This tank is starting to annoy me. I think it might be leaking again. I can't find wet spots anywhere, but I'm adding water every other day to keep the water level up. The sg has dropped to 1.018, suggesting that there is saltwater leaving the tank, and it's being replaced by freshwater. I've now started topping off solely with saltwater in an attempt to fix that problem. I'm thinking about maybe just taking it down and setting up a smaller tank. I don't know, it just seems like it's getting to be kind of a hassle. I'm also having issues with scratching the acrylic - the algae that grows on it is impossible to get off without at least a few scratches, and they're beginning to build up. meh... maybe I just need to wait longer for thew tank to mature, idk. Opinions?

unsure.gif so you got this worked out yet??
Jamie
No, I've been so busy the tanks just been sitting there, doing it's thing. It's actually quite self sufficient, I just throw a cube of cyclops in every day, and add water every few days after it disappears for whatever reason. I still can't tell if there's a leak or not. It could just be lots of water splashing out, but it hasn't been like this before.

well, if it makes you feel better...i've got the same kinda thing happening, but i cant find any leaks, wet spots on the carpet, stand, or equipment. just see the water drop maybe a millimeter a day.
Jamie
Clearly someone has been stealing our water.

And the new addition is currently acclimating. smile.gif would like to get pics tonight, but I'll have to get the algae off the acrylic first!
Jamie
Anemone is in tank and happy! biggrin.gif He attached faster than anything I've ever seen. The nems here take 20-30 minutes to attach to something, and it takes a few days before it's difficult to peel them off again. The second this guy's foot hit the rocks he stuck, and it only took a few seconds before he was fully attached. I turned on the surge to make sure, and he isn't going anywhere. Unfortunately, he's in a terrible place to take pictures. I got all the algae off the acrylic, but it's still not perfectly clear, and the water seems a tad murky, too - probably just all the tiny bubbles from the surge - you usually can barely see the back of the tank, and he's about halfway or 2/3 the way back. So, no pics of him for now, but I got a random top down (no algae on the surface!) to make up for it.

clifford513
Very nice! Fts soon, please smile.gif

YAY!!! Sounds like he's happy then!!

Conveniently, he'll move from wherever he is now, so you shouldn't have any problems getting a pic wink.gif

And if he ever attaches to the point it's difficult to get him off, I'll be amazed. Seems like they always attach fully, but dont grip very well.

Nice shot too biggrin.gif
Jamie
Well, I hope he doesn't wander into any of the anthopleura's, they're pretty potent. ohmy.gif

And I hope to get an fts today or tomorrow. I think I'll turn the surge off now, and see if the water clears up before dark.

Kewl nem, Jamie. biggrin.gif
Jamie
Well I was trying (and failing) to get a good fts, so I have a mildly disgusting one for you, but I got bored doing that, so I started taking random shots of things that were far away with the lens extender. So they're basically really out of focus. aka Awesome! (well, not if you hate abstract art). I also tried another method, so see if you can guess what it is.

So, here are the fts's

A couple nem shots

Abstract! (ooh, this would make a good screen saver!)

And my secret method. It's actually pretty obvious (and somewhat nauseating) but whatevs

The nem has moved some. I think it ran into an elegant, it was closed and the other looked po'ed. I'm not sure who won; they're both still right next to each other, so maybe the battle isn't over yet.

heh. Elegant definitely won. Early in the evening I saw the red after it's second battle with the elegant. It was covered in white "scars" where the elegant had stung it. The elegant's defensive tentacles were all puffed up, too. Later in the evening I checked on it again, and the red was just gone. I finally found it on the opposite side of the tank, literally as far as possible as it could be from the other nem. Fortunately it's in a better place to get pictures now, but I haven't gotten to that as of yet.

lol, I know. That algae is crazy. I can rip it all out, and in two or three days it looks exactly like that again. rolleyes.gif
dshnarw
LOL...oh well. He'll learn biggrin.gif
Jamie
Well, he seems happy with his new spot. He seems to like the surge too, he's always open during the day (surge goes off at night though). And no one has attacked him since, which is good. I'll try to get pics soon - I can't tell how busy I'll be the next few days though so we'll have to see.

Also, unrelated. I think it was this thread I mentioned this in earlier, but if not whatever. The pipefish breeding project is going through, so I have bunches of pipefish (well, six. Soon to be eight) in tanks in my basement. I've even seen some "signals" (head jerks and stuff) that I think are breeding behavior, so I'm hoping for eggs! Here are a few mediocre pics of them. I'll eventually start another thread though.

Haha. It's literally frozen to the fixture with salt creep. I thought of taking a hammer to it, but I'd probably accidentally smash the light or something. It's not hurting anyone where is is, so I figured I'd just leave it. tongue.gif

and btw, all the pipes are eating frozen cyclops - none of them had any problems with dead food!
