Hey All!
I've been looking for a local club and can't seem to find anything at all! The closest one is in Rockford, which is an hour away from me!
So I thought I would see if there was any interest in my area! I am in McHenry. If you are in that area or anywhere close, and are interested in starting a club, let me know. We can get started soon if there is any interest!
I'm thinking about a once a month club, with swap meets, frag fests, general meetings and whatever else you can think of!
So let me know!!
thanks

Holy Crap! Another Mcbilly-ite! Are you a member on "that other site"? There is a CMAS forum over there. While I am not a member of CMAS, it does put one in contact with many other local reefers. Also, there is the OT crew. There is limited organization within the OT crew. Basically, just a bunch of fun loving, beer swilling, locals who try to go on tours of local facilities every once in a while.

well, i'm not a member of any other site, so i don't follow, except for the part about fun loving, beer swilling, i'm in for that!

I don't use an axe to murder folk, it's just too messy. But, if you'd like to find out my other methods, that could be arranged.

Axes are to hard to conceal - I like ginsu knives, they have lifetime warranty.
I'm one of the OT hijackers over on RC. Same screen name
you can check out CMAS.net too, althought there's not alot of activity. Then there's always beefcentral.net

Im in Crystal Lake, Im always down for some beer swilling, and I could probably find an axe to bring. BYOA, bring your own axe?
Anyways, now that I have a local audience.... Ive been going to the Oceans Floor LFS in lake in the hills. It used to be a real dump but for the past month or so it has been under new ownership. They are working really hard to get the place cleaned up, and its starting to look pretty nice. I think they are going to break down their SPS tank soon so there is some great deals to be had there. Also, from what they tell me, they are working with their suppliers to stop receiving coral that they cannot keep alive, like elegence, goniapora, etc.
So... not to hijack the thread or anything, but they are looking to build up customers so maybe they would be interested in a club sponsorship?
yankeereefer
May 12 2008, 12:13 PM
I think that she's a CMAS sponsor already. Here's their website:
ccaquatics.comand sale coming up!
Crystal Clear Aquatics: TEL 847-854-1200
May 23rd and 24th, SPRING CLEANING SALE
50% Coral and Fish.
Closed May 25th – 31st closed for cleaning.
Haven't been there since change of ownership. Exotic Aquatics is right around the corner on Randall - Pretty decent place too.

Is that the place that has all of the koi ponds?
jwalsh1

Yea theyve got a huge section specifically for Koi. Its a nice shop and the closest to me thats not a big box. I dont go to big box stores. Id rather spend more money and help the locals out.

Rod's is not your traditional LFS.
He breeds Rod's Onyx and makes / sells Rod's Food (good stuff). He's also pretty good with custom sumps/tanks. He gets some pretty spectacular zoos, lps and sps too. He can drill tanks for you as well if yoiu need that.
Most people go for the onyx but alot of folks just go there to talk with him. He's a tremendous knowledge base.

I just got off the phone with Crystal, and she has said "Absolutely" to us meeting at her place! I'm pretty excited about this! This store has come a long way in a short period of time! And from the little time I have spent talking with Crystal, I can tell this is going to be a great thing!!
So as soon as we get some more interest going, I'll set up our first meeting!!
Thanks!!!

I never usually come to this part of the website and I'm glad I did today. I live in South Elgin just a block away from Sea Escapes and I'd love to participate. I'm all for beer guzzling axe murder parties. I've got an especially dull one just for the occasion. It's funny I have no idea where ReefPlus is located and I've been in this area all my life. Exotic Aquatics is a pretty decent shop as is Sea Escapes. SE is actually turning their entire pond section into a salt water/reef section. Last I heard it would be ready in July. I plan to take a trip out to see Rod's Place within the next month.
As for a little get together, I'll be going on vacation to Florida this coming weekend returning Memorial Day so I won't be able to make it during that time.
RayWhisperer
May 12 2008, 08:52 PM
Time to set the record straight.
The beer guzzling takes place with the OT crew. As for the fish geeks night out, beer is drank. However, not in excess, as we all have to work the next day.

Beef doesn't go anymore. He had a hissy fit after the smoking ban.
Edit; Out of the OT crew, there will probably only be Speedo(AKA formerly Greedo, now I don't remember what his name is), Special Ed (AKA Ekrunch) and LSD Diva (AKA LSU DIVA).

Just got back from CCAquatics (well a couple hours ago). Really nice shop, the corals are all healthy (healthiest Ive seen so far), the tanks are slick, and the staff is friendly and very helpful. Apparently he told me come back in month and the SPS tank will look even better. Great selection too, tons of corals. They will be getting a lot of my business. Thanks for the heads up on this place.

What day of the week would you guys be planning on going down there, I might be able to go meet some more locals.
Is Sea Escapes really getting rid of their pond stuff, I might have to go down there I wonder if they are going to have their pond stuff on sale. If they are great I can make my pond bigger and ive been wanting to redo my water fall.
Axes are too clumsy you have to get a Kitana, nice and clean cuts.

From what I have heard from Sea Escapes, they don't plan on removing their pond stuff completely they just plan on increasing their SW presence. To do that the side room where the pond holding tanks were located are going to be converted to frag and live rock tanks.
