Questions questions
1. Anyone using lifereef overflow/pre-filter boxes? wedge or regular?
2. Pics of your ATO reservoir?
3. Anyone have a refugium AND an ATO reservoir both fit into the cabinet for the 130? pics?
4. ATO hose, lifereef overflow box with J tube and tunze 9002, anyone have a picture showing all those things installed?
Thank you much.
I'll be using a RKL in my tank as well as the life reef overflow and refugium with chaeto, I will also have the RKL controlling an ATO as well as moonlights, wave maker control and a few other functions like dosing pumps

Yuck. Stunner strips are much smaller and can go horizontal. I've seen pictures and they look much better than that. Looks like there is on between the stock bulbs in that pic.

Not a good pic, but here's one of my JBJ ATO in a 5 gal bucket:

I thought it was just a controller with sensors (float switches?) and a socket to put the pump plug into. What am I looking at in this bucket?

Float sensor that goes in your reservoir and the pump

I bought a 30qt sterilite container with a lid, hopefully that will work out with some cut outs for wires and this float switch business.

1. lifereef overflow regular
2. ato reservoir is now a 5 gallon bucket- though before the sump I used a plastic storage container. the thing to the side of the storage container is my Kalk reactor that I still use with my current setup.

3. sure number 3 can be done- though space is very limited in the cabinet, thus locating ato reservoir outside of cabinet seemed much more logical.
4. my ato hose is installed into the sump-

9002 with steviet cup in the sump. though, this is older photo- I no longer use the 9002 (motor burned up).

Now I use a Euro-Reef in the sump

I need to take a photo of the overflow
5. I have one RKE running both of my tanks- the RSM and my Picotope. Main unit is actually mounted by the picotope and I have a remote display mounted by the RSM. Only functions that remain in the rsm original factory power strip is the skimmer function and the original circulation pumps. the heater, lights, ATO and other pumps are controlled by the RKE

I was wondering if anybody did a LED lighting upgrade besides Nguyen Led over 2 years ago. I've been looking at doing a diy, but not really sure what works in a 130 RSM.
I retrofitted my RSM 250 with LEDs and kept the stock hood. It's been 6 months and growth has been amazing! Take a look at my build, would be the same for the 130 but only need 24 LEDs instead of 48.

My tank is driving me nuts. Look at the shmutz in the water column!

This garbage is a combination of microbubbles, pods and crap that the filter is just not picking up! I'm at my wits end, I've changed the floss on the filter twice and it still won't take it out!

I saw StevieT made some underwater lights for this use.And you can grow some chaeto in the media pack.I did a sump in mine and will grow some macro with leds in the sump.Adding a sump in RSM very good idea!I did it with 25mm pvc overflow.(double U).Also no bubbles.

Turns out that my MJ1200 is pumping too much water into the tank when the ATO turns it on. (Spiro, you were right)
Can anyone suggest an alternate lower power pump for my JBJ ATO which will still have enough lift from the cabinet to the tank (I guess it is 3 or 4 feet?)
Thanks

I still have the 1200, but I lowered the ATO float about 1/2 inch and so far its working fine. However, I was thinking of somehow reducing the diameter of the tubing to slow the flow down.

Since you all are RSM owners I thought I would throw this out and let you convince me.....I'm thinking about getting one.....if you had to do it all over again would you buy another RSM? I'm thinking of going straight up to the 66 gallon. I currently have a 14g biocube and of course it is way too small but it was my first tank. I have heard good and bad things about the RSM...mostly good though. I think the 34 would be great for a while but then after a while I think I would be kicking myself because I didn't go to the 66 gallon. So back to the original question...if you had the $1700 back would you all go for the RSM again or would you build piece by piece?

Just lower the float to compensate. Been running a MJ1200 for 4+ years or put a hose clamp to slow it down if you can't figure it out.

I love my RSM 130d, but if I were to go bigger I get everything seperately, ie, lights, sump, skimmer etc.

Stevie, the JBJ ATO has an auto shut off timer. It comes factory installed to shut off in 3 minutes, I'm finding a way to get it to go to max which is 14 minutes. So even a lower float switch will not compensate (I don;t think).
I'll try a higher output pump than the toms and a lower than the mj1200. There has to be a happy middle somewhere.
StevieT
Feb 7 2012, 12:50 PM
I don't understand. My ATO will only run for a few seconds then it is full and shuts off.
Yet I use the MJ1200
metrokat
Feb 7 2012, 04:01 PM
My ATO also ran only a few seconds with the MJ1200. I was finding that the water level increased a lot because the MJ1200 is too powerful. I have not been able to find the correct level for the float switch vs the point at which the pumps start blowing bubbles.
Your suggestion of clamping the hose is a good one but why not use a less powerful pump.
StevieT
Feb 7 2012, 04:05 PM
Or mount your float to a magnet so that you can finely tune it. 1/2" increments are too much.
metrokat
Feb 8 2012, 05:06 PM
You're right, 1/4 increment also make a huge difference. Hope the magnet mounting does not interfere with the operation of the float switch.
