happy bday cal!!! biggrin.gif
dtfleming
happy b-day, I would replace the clam with a squamosa
calvin415
Thanks everyone!

dtfleming, I'll likely replace it with a Derasa (eventually), but I've always wanted to say I have a Gigas clam, so I'll wait until it's too big and then sell/trade it off for a Derasa that will be able to stay indefinately.

Tank is looking good Calvin , don't worry about overflowing the water , I have done this more times than I care to admit . It happens to the best of us , at least you can say you were medicated at the time . As for me ......I have no excuse other than just being stupid at the time .
Galloping Goose
Nice...
Im in Highlands Ranch (South Denver), wanted to know when I'm down in the Springs visiting my family if I can visit and look at your creation?
varanus37
The clam is awesome. It looks great with the dimensions of your tank. Always wanted to do one in a rubbermaid trough plumbed to my system. Just sand, a monster clam, and a big ol' light.

Possibly... My schedule has been nuts lately so it will depend what is going on at the time.

LOL! That would actually still be cool! biggrin.gif

I added a new addition to the tank the other day, and hope to add some more corals tonight... Those of you who recall my last tank know these guys are one of my favorites, so I just had to put him in the tank. wink.gif

NanoReefNovice
Nice harlequin shrimp happy.gif

Waiting to see some pics of the new corals. biggrin.gif
calvin415
I still owe you pics of the new corals (13 of them) alas I can not until I get my memory card back. I did pull out my wifes cam to get a shot of the latest fish addition for you though. Coral pics will come when I get my memory card back. sad.gif

Wicked colors on that one. How's the clam doing? Opening up and stretching the side walls of the tank yet? I'll get my rubbermaid trough ready for him!

Wow

tank turned out real nice.

That wrasse adds a lot of color to the tank and it also has character.

Nice work. Wish i had a basement and owned a house to do something like this.

Wow! I just saw this thread from page 1 and everything is so AMAZING. You have lots of skills. Should be very proud of your tank. Keep it up!

Thanks, Clam is actually looking different, still opens and looks heathly, but the mantle color is changing... Not sure what is up with it, but I'm trying to locate a new home for it. sad.gif

LOL!!!

So I'm trying to find a new home for the Gigas, it still appears healthy but the mantle is changing color a little and I don't want to risk the health of the clam so it's currently For Sale. sad.gif Not sure what I will replace it with or when but I do hope to get a clam in the spot again... I still need to get some more pics, and I will as soon as I find some free time. Thanks for the all the feedback and words of encouragement, I really appreciate it!

On a side note, man it's humid!!! No condensation issues, but living in Colorado, humidity is rare except in my basement. wink.gif
varanus37
I'll trade you for the clam in my tank. Would be a good swap. My guy is sitting about the size of a nerf football right now. Would fill your spot nicely but not be too crazy big. Now to just convince my wife that driving to CO is a good plan in order to trade clams with someone.

Calvin I don't think a color shift is unheard of. Is it bleaching, or are the colors shifting like blue to more yellow\gold?
calvin415
It's shifting from blue to yellow/brown...

There was a thesis paper out there about Tridacna clams and color shifts with lighting and water conditions. It happens. I will look for it but I don't think there is anything healthwise to worry about with this clam.
calvin415
Well I went ahead and found a new home for the Gigas, for those of you in Colorado, it will be on display at the Downtown Aquarium (Denver for those not familiar with the area) soon. It is currently in QT up there, but not sure when it will go on display. Yes, I still owe some update pics, but working on a couple small changes (stocking) and will try to get some more pics up soon.

calvin - Looking great. I love the Leopard wrasse. Have you thought about any fish that stay together? I tried out some Red Spot cardinals but they do horrible in our tanks. I may pick up a few Longspine Cardinals and I bet they would look great in your tank!

Anyways great stuff.

-Dave
calvin415
Thanks Dave, actually I have 4 Bangaii's that school around the tank right now, pretty large fish for schooling, but they should start to pair up soon... Also picked up a single Percula that I hope to pair up maybe this weekend. Lots more corals added, LPS, SPS, and even some Zoo's... Unfortunately, everything is still just frags so it's tough to see everything until they start to grow in. sad.gif

Everything is finally starting to settle in, I empty the skimmer (the cup is 95% full), fill up the ATO barrel, and perform a 10% water change every week, and feed the hell out of it every chance I get... I mean I'm killing the return pump, and dumping in 6 cubes of Mysis, and 3 or 4 cubes of baby brine! The corals all open up and feast! The cardinals chase the mysis (CL still runs and keeps it all moving) all over, along with the leopard wrasse. I'll target feed as many of the corals as I can with pellet food as well so hopefully things will start growing in soon... Most of the acans have new heads sprouting up along with the blastos and micros. biggrin.gif

I promise, I'll get some new pics soon.

patrick1234
hey did you get gigs the clam frome D and G
calvin415
Okay, so these are a little overdue... The corals on the sand bed along with the 4 cardinals were my trade at the Denver Aquarium for the Gigas. Patrick, I got the Gigas from a friend who got it from another local...

FTS, still not much to see:

A little closer...

And some close ups...

Pink Lemonade Frag

GARF Bonsai Frag

UFO Micro

Blue Tip Tenius

Ponape BN

PPE Blasto

These will be fragged down, as the pieces are too large for the scale of the tank right now...

Great update Cal!

I disagree though, it is much to look at tongue.gif

A wonderful collection of frags you have in there already.

Thanks for the pics!

Hey Eric, I can't remember if this was in the plans, but are you going to leave the area above the tank as-is, or are you going to close it off?

No, it will remain open... The only plans are to enclose the canopy, and I'll do that when I have a little more time and motivation.

Yeah... Don't think I need to run a computer all day. Electricity is bad enough and about to get worse when we turn on the AC... laugh.gif

I have a few fish on our clubs group buy order, we'll see when and what makes it in... I did move all the corals off the sand bed and into the rock work so I'll post more pics when I can.

I've seen this tank in person and it's amazing.... Nice Job Eric!

Hey, I volunteer at the aquarium. Wonder if I'll have some hand in setting the giga up in one of the tanks. That would be fun. I think QT is something along the lines of 40 days, but I'm really not allowed to talk about it, so.

Tank looks great Calvin. I'll have to steal stuff from you some time haha.
mikellini
Right on, I guess I was really just thinking the canopy, like to hide the wires and make it all slick. I can't really say anything that hasn't already been said; this tank is just that good. You're certainly an asset to the hobby!
