I am more than likely going to purchase a flaming prawn goby for my nano. With a price tag around $150 I thought I would see if anybody here has one or has heard anything about them. I know they are very small which would make them perfect for a nano. Anybody have any experience with them?

I haven't heard of anyone actually keeping them, but they have been mentioned (usually as a fish that is too expensive to buy like helfrich's firefish).

Note: they aren't associated with any shrimp/prawns like shrimpgobies.

you may want to be careful, theyre not small theyre tiny
theyre max size is 3/4" i believe and come in at 1/4"-1/2"
theyre more of a pico sized fish
dont know much about them other than whats on the net

Yeah, they are rather expensive and hard to find but I found one so I think I'm going to go for it. They are really quite striking. The link you provided did not work...try again?

i wasnt talking about the family prawn, i was laughing at the fact that its a flamer.

wow...I am suprised you found that article. It is pretty informative though. Now I am torn between purchasing it for it's rarity and beauty and passing on it for it shyness. Would be a shame to spend that amount on a fish and never see it. My 12g is pretty simply laid out but I'm sure the fish could find a little cave somewhere to hide all day. Argh...decisions! Thanks again for the article...can I pay you in monopoly money;-)

i think the name flaming prawn goby is a tad bit misleading; the two i have don't pair with pistol shrimps. they name arises from the fact that they're supposed to look like flaming shrimps.

i knew that but are they ok together and wat size tank do u have them in do wat do they eat?

mine seemed like they were paired off the longest time, but then started getting aggressive with each other. i have them seperated in 2 small critter keepers in my frag tank. i've seen them munch on stuff in the sand bed and also the tiny spectrum pellets.

i also plan on getting one. Im getting mine through my job at the LFS and for a great price. only $25. i sometimes wonder if they are even worth that much though because my buddy has one in a 5.5 fish only cube with only the flaming prawn goby and a equally tiny trimma goby and he has not seen it since he dropped it in. with only around .25lbs of live rock in it you would think it would reveal itself more. i caught just a small glimpse of it as it swam back into its burrow once though

Ya I considered getting one and setting up a tank for it, but no room for more tanks right now anyway. Had a panda goby, elusive little bugger too, only ate food that literally touched its face.

yeah i got one. lisping all the time and has a crazy obsession with "camp" tank decor.

They will arrive small, perhaps 3/4 inch. They are striking however and after a little while the become much less timid. May want to check out Premium Aquatics. The were able to get mine for $65. They do need plenty of places to hide.
