Thanks for posting the information and link to the article supporting your lighting schedule. I am thinking of doing something similar, but I'm just wondering what it would be like for the fish. Then again, we're all not really keeping 'natural' reefs in the purest sense, ie you would never see the mix of corals we try to keep on a natural reef

. How do you think the fish I have (clowns, firefish, tailspot) would respond to having the lights turn on and off twice daily?
That is one stellar list of corals. I imagine that you have a frag tank as I can't imagine you have all of those in a 22g, unless of course they are all small frags.
I think we may need a picture of each one just to make sure you actually have them

Kidding, I'm sure your tank is a wonder to see in person.

I really don't think the fish care. I have seen it done on large system with a large fish load and it doesnt seem to cause any problems. Yeah people dose amino acids and vodka gluing them down with super glue and make roak out of foam trying to trick coral to grow at our will yeah we reefers are keeping it real LOL. I think they will be ok .
They are all in my little 22 most arent too big but some are the size of mini coloines i dont plan to have huge corals it kind of take away from the whole picture that is also the reason i ahve such small fish because i don't want anything tanking away from the whole system. I can do that i think at least 90% of them are pictured in my thread i might of lost a few in the NR crash last month but I think they are all there. I don't know about a wonder most people who see my tank have no idea i have nice corals, they just think its nice and they say "I should make one of these" and i laugh
well not much is going on i am going away for a week so no new coral so i will try to get some pic's in of the tank before i leave

Well I have a few corals comming in before my trip on monday. I got a monti, two chalices and two or three acros so stay tuned. I got some dimmable moonlights coming from NR member "nimrod" i got them for a steal and I can't wait to see them in action. I know that Moon Simulation does nothing in a reef tank i think the overall effect is still pretty cool.
Anyway I guess I am going to keep the Sunpod for a little longer since my wife found out i saved up a cool Grand and for my new light and bulbs and she thought it would be better spent on trip to Las Vegas for halloween. So I bought a new Phoenix 14k to replace the 21k Giesemann Megachrome that has almost 6 solid months on it and i figure i should replace it eventhough the bulbs color was still good. I think i am just going to keep it as a back up I really hope my corals color doesnt suffer too much. I dont think it will but only time will tell.

I found a really cool fan for my setup its a Tunze Aquawind its low profile and it really throws out the airflow
not my pic

TUNZE® Aquawind is an especially low-noise aquarium ventilator provided with a 5 V low-voltage power supply unit. Moreover, it comes with an attachment means, which can be used for every aquarium edge up to 25 mm (.98 in.). It produces a laminar air movement over the surface of the water, accelerating the evaporation process and thus achieving a cooling of the water. In standard aquariums, the cooling may amount to 1° to 2° Celsius (1.8° to 3.6° F) on 500 litres (132 USgal.).
Adjustable to two performances, with power supply unit and universal holder.
Dimensions: L 270 x W 100 x H 30 mm (L 10.6 x W 3.9 x H 1.13 in.).

You had mentioned in a previous post that you've saved up 1000k for new lights. I looked through the posts but couldn't find mention of the lights you were going to buy.
Now that you've had the eshopps skimmer on your tank for a little while are you satisfied with its performance or are you considering another skimmer?
Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. I thought you may have gotten a nice LED system when I saw the cost. I used to have the Tunze but opted to replace it with a Sapphire Aquatics model. The SA skimmer impeller is now broken, so I need a new skimmer and had my fingers crossed that the eshopps would work. May have to go back to the Tunze as your tank looks like it's doing just fine with it.

Sep 2 2009, 02:48 PM
yeah its not the greatest Picasso but its still a pretty cool fish my next question is. should i keep it, i keep my tanks pretty low on the fish count and this fish makes three ( 2 maked gobies and the Picasso) what do you guys think?
well i have been reading the revies on the Aquavitro Fuel and people are getting some good results from it as long as you tank has a low nutrient level like mine does
heres a review from a reefer who tested this stuff out recently
Fuel is the name of the final Aqua Vitro additive tested. This additive was saved for last since it is the only additive that can not be tested for changes to specific chemicals with a test kit. One can only judge how well the product works by visual appearance and how other monitoring devices react. Fuel is a mixture of carbohydrates, vitamins, fatty acids, and amino acids designed to ignite coral growth. The only monitor on my tank affected from dosing Fuel was my tank’s Oxygen Reduction Potential (ORP) meter. Directly after dosing, the ORP level in my tank plummeted from its normal operating range of around 400 down to 250. Even when I tried dosing ¼ of the recommended rate, my ORP still dropped over 100 points. Within a few hours, the ORP would rebound back to near its typical operating range. It didn’t totally surprise me that the ORP dropped some while dosing since, it keep things simple, dirtier water generally means a lower ORP. What did surprise me was how much a small dose of Fuel would drop my ORP readings. If a fish goes missing in my tank, generally, the ORP will drop 20-40 points, depending on the size of the fish. Most other coral “color enhancing” additives tried in the past did not give me the large drop either. Seeing that Fuel will drop the ORP by 150 points indicates that there is something in the mixture that is pretty potent with regards to the oxygen levels or water quality. One other side affect observed was that a green film algae would appear on the front glass after dosing. Prior to beginning dosing Fuel, the front glass on my setup could go 2-3 weeks without being cleaned if it wasn’t for the fact that coraline algae would start growing all over the glass pane. These two side effects indicates to me that you don’t want to dose more than the recommended amount, and may be better off using less than what Seachem Laboratories recommends, depending on how clean your water is. Besides for those two side effects, the product appears to work well. Within a week after starting the dosing I could notice my SPS corals reaching out their polyps farther, and shortly after that, I noticed about 1/3 of my SPS corals have gained some coloration. With everything that I have noticed with the Fuel additive, it does seem to have potential in tanks with very low organic levels. Fuel may not work as well in tanks with higher organic levels, unless dosed very lightly, since it may spark algae or water quality problems.
I will also write a review up in about 3-4 weeks to see if there are any major changes
Also this stuff smells like toast....weird

I got an extra bottle of AquaVitro Fuel. If you want it, it's yours. Tried using it at first, but didn't really know what I was doing at the time to tell if it helped or not. Then I tried Elos A.A. and recently decided to stop dosing aminos altogether.

I was adding 2 drops of Elos A.A. every day for 2 months, which isn't a whole lot considering I've got nearly 40 gallons of water volume. Then I noticed colors beginning to dull in my SPS. They were still colorful, just not as eye popping. That was the only thing I was adding other than B-Ionic and Tech Mg. Then I stopped. It's been about 30 days now, and new corals are coloring faster and old ones are showing deeper hues - especially the blues and purples. I figured if I don't need it, then why make things harder and simply do without? I spend the saved time direct feeding mysis instead. I'm sure A.A. has benefit to some extent. Otherwise, it wouldn't be a hot selling product.
scottyreef
Sep 2 2009, 08:06 PM
well that sucks I think i will give this stuff a few weeks and if i see any problems i am going to stop. I know the reefs that benifit the best are ones that are really nutrient deficient which is mine all the way i only feed my tank every 10 days or so but we will see.
My frag sale will be coming up soon for the frag swap and my own sale so a total frag list is coming very soon
Also heres my little penderson shrimp (before he ran away)
